@GoofGoof I'm scared of this fall now, now NJ, PA, CA and NY will go back indoor mask mandate until April 2022. NOOOO!!! Because Delta variant is getting worse by fall. As I hate this now, that CDC will announcing public transport mask mandate may be expanding into next year until the virus cases are so low enough. Because there isn't enough people are vaccinated as we will going back to indoor masks mandate by fall in NJ and NY. I don't want to wear mask indoors by fall and winter in NJ and NY again!

Not 5 min later the FDA and the CDC release a joint statement saying that "fully vaxxed people do not need a booster at this time, AND if you're fully vaccinated you are protected from the variants circulating the US at this time".

ENOUGH doom and gloom. None of the variants have rendered the vaccines ineffective. People who aren't vaccinated by choice do not concern me and shouldn't drive any public health decisions.

For the "just a little longer" crowd, this article talks about COVID circulating around the world for another 2-3 years and requiring re-institution of "mitigation" throughout that time. 2-3 weeks is "just a little longer," 2-3 years is not.

What’s asinine is thinking your personal frustration and tiredness has anything to do with how a pandemic/virus will behave.

It doesn’t care if you’ve been masking for a year and can’t take it anymore (as if it’s so hard.) It doesn’t care who is ignorant and thinks a mild case can’t lead to long term complications.

Going about your business while wearing a mask is anything but “cowering.” It’s smart.

The poster you replied to indicated that they were fully vaccinated. Once you are fully vaccinated, there is no science based need to take any further measures since the vaccines are far more effective than any mitigation measure short of isolating/quarantining. It doesn't make somebody "smart" to do something unnecessary. Is it smart if I wash my hands for five minutes instead of 20 seconds?

As an aside, just because you aren't bothered wearing a mask and it doesn't cause you discomfort does not mean the same is true for other people. If you like to wear one for whatever reason even though you are fully vaccinated, by all means do so. Please stop telling other fully vaccinated people like me that we should do the same.

You also have to consider IF the masks mandates and SD are brought back in the fall, that would put a HUGE dent in Disney's kickoff for the 50th Celebration. They would have to drop capacity back down, people would be cancelling trips left and right. Not to mention bringing back all the plexiglass, and reoutfitting the parks for COVID again.

That would be very damaging to them financially. Esp after they are trying to rehire people left and right, and open everything back up. They'd have to put everything in reverse and only get a few months out of "normal" Disney.

Is all that something Disney REALLY wants to do?

So wait, the percentages positivity rate in Orange County is back above 5%. Oh, well.

I think there was always expected to be a bit of an uptake in cases as restrictions were lifted.

A quick search does show deaths down 70% over the last 14 days with hospitalizations low and steady - a slight uptick but dramatically lower than six months or so ago.

Not sure it matters, but I think @Parker in NYC was responding to the info on Orange County, Florida, but the LA Times article is referring to Orange County, California. They each relate to TWDC though, so....close enough.

There are many "omg the sky is falling" articles out there that really are meant to get clicks (aka money) and not always the most level headed out there. We've said it many times and mean it, no one can tell what will happen with 100% certainty. No one knows what NY &NJ will do. I suggest, lovingly, to just not sweat this and enjoy the summer. Reading things like this will do no good.

Poor reporting maybe? Also sounds like Pfizer is working on adding more for those unvaccinated just in case or to see how well it all works. Works for me, back to ho hum

Just for reference, if you look at the CNBC article's "reporter" 's twitter feed, he is obsessed with masking.

Maybe not an objective perspective, especially since the headline is written like an opinion.

Pfizer said a study from Israel showed that the effectiveness of its vaccine against symptomatic disease declined approximately six months after people were fully vaccinated.

The biopharmaceutical company's chief scientific officer, Mikael Dolsten, said the recently reported dip was mostly due to infections in people who had been vaccinated in January or February, according to Reuters.

The news agency also reported the country's health ministry as saying vaccine effectiveness in preventing both infection and symptomatic disease fell to 64% in June.

Point being is laws get passed often that end up being in violation of the Constitution.

(Likely) in this case enforced vaccinations or no exemptions would run afoul of the 1st and quite likely the 4th and 5th (potentially ).
