So what’s happening in UK? Posted a 6 week high for new cases. The delta variant now appears to be the dominant strain, and it sounds like there is some pressure to push back their 6/21 reopening. Perhaps our resident Brits could chime in. I assume this variant will bump up our numbers a bit here in the US as well, but hopefully not enough to change gears.

Just another reason for the undecideds to get the jab...

All I can say is, thank heavens for the vaccines. If we didn't have them by now, I can't even imagine. But I don't have to worry about that!

It’s more transmissible is the main reason and hitting the unvaccinated, 73% of cases are in the unvaccinated with 23% in those having only had one dose....the vaccines are working but still only available to 30 plus at the moment...I have hated the term casedemic in the past but that is what it is here now with hospital numbers still declining people have actually been in uproar here today about travel to other countries still essentially being banned

So the administration has decided how they will allocate the vaccine doses (80 million) that are to be donated to other countries. They are mostly giving it to the UN created organization.

That is fine, but US self interest would have been served better if we prioritized those donations to the countries that visit the US the most , or US residents visit the most , but have less access to vaccine. That would decrease the chances of a bad variant getting to the US, and increasing the safety of travel.

For WDW getting Brazil vaccinated would help it. UK has a good handle already vaccine wise.

It's the Delta variant causing the issue - my town was almost at 0 cases last week but now looks like this:

I know it's still a relatively small number but from being at almost 0, it's a decent jump.

Canada is already under control. Mexico should see significant help, and the USA has said some of the vaccines are earmarked for close allies. UK is doing okay as well I think.

When have I ever wished against the vaccines? I'm dealt with facts and evidence, and admitted uncertainty where uncertainty exists.
It is a fact that the current reduction is partially seasonality. It is also a fact that the current reduction is partially vaccine related.
How much of each -- we really don't know.

and we haven’t done enough and kids don’t matter and then wish wash back and forth and say things are unlikely but still possible and then if it happens you claim you were right and if it doesn’t happen you still claim you were right. Whatever happens will happen.

Right now cases are dropping which is great. We’ve started a major pull back on mitigations and cases are still dropping which is also great. We aren’t done with vaccinations yet and once we are I’m highly confident that when we are it will be enough which is all that matters.

Admitting uncertainty isn't weakness. Okay, you're highly confident that we will be below 500 cases nationwide soon. I HOPE and WISH that you are correct.

Interesting stats. While overall cases are decreasing, the vast majority of new cases impact those who are unvaccinated.

That stat falls under the "duh" category but the second piece is interesting. The proportion of unvaccinated people getting COVID is increasing, if I'm reading this right.

Moral of the story? Get vaccinated. If you're not, and the restrictions at WDW go away, best to stay home.

By extreme mitigation I'm referring to the "essential business only," "stay at home unless doing an essential activity" or "no indoor dining at all" type of mitigation.

Yes. I believe that happened when there were a crazy amount of unknowns and the death rates were extremely high in Italy.

Looking back, yes it was extreme and at least in some areas of the country most likely unnecessary. But when you’re gambling with peoples lives which do you choose?

And you are highly confident that we won’t and I hope and wish that you are wrong.

Actually I don’t really care all that much either way if we hit that arbitrary target. My life won’t change one way or the other if the cases were at 600 or 800 or 1,000 a day instead of 500 by a specific date. Fauci said many months back that we could drop all mitigations and return to normal when we got under 3 cases per 100K which is under 10,000 cases per day. I would say I’m highly confident we hit that level well before August.

Yes this is largely correct.

In my opinion travel to other countries has been banned because of the infection rate in those countries not because of ours. Portugal, the source of most of the consternation has an increasing number of infections including a Nepal variant (apologies don’t know its Greek letter name) which is a variant of concern. Their cases are currently lower than ours but only have 27% of adults vaccinated so is not a safe place to visit at the moment. When it was announced we could go there their rate of infection was not increasing so quickly and the Nepal variant was less prevalent. We were warned from the beginning that “safe” countries could change according to circumstances. The only uproar I have seen is mostly, understandably, from the travel industry. I sympathise with anyone who was due to go to Portugal but have just heard an epidemiologist on the BBC 10pm news saying this was the correct decision. So the government has been accused of acting too slowly and/or not closing borders quickly enough and now have annoyed people by acting “too quickly!” Heads you lose and tails you lose too!
Personally I prefer caution.

Looks like next year, Olympics may be do again for one more time if they did not cancelled it cause COVID-19 in Japan.
