Update: I got my handed to me last night. I was fine and then at 10 pm all the sudden I got aches all over. Up all night with fever and chills but still hurt like crazy. Not sure why my body reacted so strongly to the second dose

And there is a school in Miami that will fire a teacher if they get vaccinated. People....

There have been a couple of posts pointing out that the FL covid bill addresses this, and it will be illegal for this school to do this.

That amendment was rejected.

The bill that was passed (without the amendment that has been posted) does not make it illegal for employers to require that employees are vaccinated either. It applies to customers or students. It does not reference employees or teachers. The narrative that "you can get fired for being vaccinated but not for not being vaccinated" is false. An employer is not restricted from requiring that employees receive COVID vaccination by this bill.

381.00316 COVID-19 vaccine documentation.— (1) A business entity, as defined in s. 768.38 to include any business operating in this state, may not require patrons or customers to provide any documentation certifying COVID-19 vaccination or post-infection recovery to gain access to, entry upon, or service from the business operations in this state. This subsection does not otherwise restrict businesses from instituting screening protocols consistent with authoritative or controlling government-issued guidance to protect public health.

(3) An educational institution as defined in s. 768.38 may not require students or residents to provide any documentation certifying COVID-19 vaccination or post-infection recovery for attendance or enrollment, or to gain access to, entry upon, or service from such educational institution in this state. This subsection does not otherwise restrict educational institutions from instituting screening protocols consistent with authoritative or controlling government-issued guidance to protect public health.

Hope you feel better as today goes on. Sorry to hear of the discomfort, but happy your system did its thing to get you on the path to protection!

Oddly and sadly enough, this might get some of the holdouts to get a shot. I can hear the rebel yells of "blue state bailout" now. My wife and I were having a similar discussion that there's probably a (very small) subset that would sign up for the vaccine just to spite other nations if we announced loaner-donation doses to hurting countries (particularly India).

At some point, they will likely be run through insurance. But typically speaking, vaccine doses are cheap. Like $10-$20 per dose cheap.

I don't think anybody should ever worry about a $20,000 Covid booster shot.

(speaking as someone who takes an arthritis medication that does cost $11,000 per injection).

They already are being run through insurance if you have it - at least in NJ. It's still no cost to the patient regardless of insurance coverage, but it's helping to spread the cost around a little bit.

How about states change reporting tactics as emphasize how far behind the younger ages are in vaccination? Maybe the last thing a bunch of 16-35 want to hear is they are losing to the older crowds.

My latest calculation for FL shows:

25-34	26.1%​
35-44	36.5%​
45-54	44.7%​
55-64	61.1%​
65-74	86.1%​
75-84	85.1%​
85+	71.1%​
Total	41.4%​

with 65+ combined at 83.8%.

The 16-35 crowd especially is getting absolutely crushed by the 55 and up crowd! Maybe if they presented it this way and targeted 35 and under with vaccination campaigns we could get a lot more people vaccinated.

Do they expect them to be that cheap once admin fees and all that get included? DDs 12yo shots: HPV, Dtap, & MenACWY was billed as $667 to my insurance. Didn't include the office visit.

That sounds high, though the insurance likely paid much less than that.

HPV is one of the more expensive vaccines....

Make the prizes big, something like $50k, $40k, $30k, $20k, $10k. Still cheaper than just paying everyone, and people love a chance at the big payoff. Gotta play to win.

Hesitancy by minorities has been trending down. Their concern is 'the government,' and after seeing the White community racing for it, they're seeing it's not some sort of trap.

Amongst youth and young adults, schools and job vaccine requirements will catch them up in the Fall.

I think that colleges have to start requiring this vaccine along with the others they already require.

Government housing usually comes in the form of apartment buildings with people living closely together. WOuld make sense to provide a rent forgiveness for rent reduction (for a month) for vaccinated residents.

I'm doing 2 things today I haven't done in quite awhile. Today is 2 weeks, post 2nd shot. We're going to eat, in a restaurant and not a picnic table outside, for the first time since my DH's birthday on March 9, 2020. And I'm packing my suitcase, because I fly to FL on Thursday.
