Rhe consequences of a COVID case slipping into a hospital undetected would be quite a bit more catastrophic than at Disney World.

And anyway, temperature checks are only part of the screen to enter a hospital. You still need to answer questions about symptoms.and potential exposures.

You're assuming people are honest in answering them. The only way to really keep cases out is only allow patients in.

Hopefully the person asking the questions has some expertise spotting symptoms as well. If they are just filling out boxes then people will lie. The screening also leads to self selection from people that know they are ill to avoid that route of entry as they know there is a high likelihood of being turned away

Never mind, I found the same graph on the CBC... speaking of which, wow, Ontario is in trouble right now. If supply begins to vastly outpace demand in the US, I wonder at what point we start being better neighbors and ship some of our excess vaccines north.

The efficacy of temperature screening is debatable and I agree that they largely provide no protection. However some level of screening and limiting entry should still be implemented at a health care facility. The most unfortunate part of a change like this is that it gives off the appearance to the public that it’s over and that if the hospital can let it’s guard down so can they.

Also, most people don't go out of their way to hang out in hospitals either. It really isn't a fun destination.

If there's any doubt, they usually direct the decision to a medical provider.

And the point of having a sentry is that you need to go through them to enter. Any unlocked entrance will have someone doing the screening.

Personally before COVID, I wanted to wear a mask at a hospital or doctors office and I only wore one if I sprayed finishes in my workshop. Its not a popular place to socialize... hospitals.... not my workshop which is actually a great place to have a beer.

Yeah. This probably isn't a big enough deal to have even mentioned here. It wouldn't have been a huge thing if I had walked into my local hospital. Still have to mask. That would be a major change but thats one place that can keep the mask.

St. George’s Chapel is a Royal Peculiar, which means it falls directly under the Queen’s authority rather than to her government or her church authorities so she probably technically could have not worn a mask, but she would never do that. She also likely would have been sitting alone in normal times because Phillip sat next to her. There are rigid protocols and traditions that carry them through times like these.

Besides, the protocols are put out by her government so they are in her name. She isn’t going to contravene them. Her sole function, for which she was anointed and crowned, and to which she vowed before God to do until her dying day is to be the figure of unity for the nation and the embodiment of its values and identity. It sounds strange to us, but that’s what a monarch is. In public, there is no Elizabeth Mountbatten Windsor, only Elizabeth the Queen.

As a person, Elizabeth lived through the bombing of London. Her parents went out to inspect the damage frequently and her home was bombed. She’s had her beloved uncle blown to bits by terrorists. She has been assaulted by an armed man while trooping the Colours. She has woken up to find a slightly “out of it“ man sitting on her room. She has been vilified and praised. A mask isn't going to bother her in the slightest.

Thanks for the details. As I said I don't follow royalty outside of jewelry so not a clue what they do. I actually only saw pictures this morning when an article pointed to the necklace Kate Middleton had on. I do agree that a mask during a funeral is likely nothing to a woman who has lived through so much.

Don't forget the most important thing is to wear a mask because if everyone just wore a mask we would have been back to normal six months ago like Australia and New Zealand. Never mind the 87 differences between Australia and New Zealand and most of the rest of the world.

Even if you take all three vaccines in separate courses three months apart you should continue to wear a mask. In fact, you should wear three.

and remember covid is worse after dark and when walking to your table in a restaurant but once you sit down you and your waitress or waiter are safe in the protective bubble that then automatically surrounds you

Young people are supposedly "woke" and all that. They only get "facts" for their COVID news as determined by nameless and faceless people at Facebook and Twitter.

It's hilarious that you think "young" people still use Facebook and Twitter. (Depending on the age you're using to define young I guess)

If anything, young people are a lot more educated in weeding out the false posts, and it's the old people, grandparents and parents, sharing overly pixelated pictures with absolutely no evidence and completely debunked statements on Facebook...

I don't think they are better. Otherwise schools wouldn't feel the need to teach how to find facts. Not saying they are worse, but they aren't inherently better.

The only time I see younger use FB is if they have a school project or need to reach a larger audience. Over 25 use it a hint more but again the motives are different. Socially that's not where it's at. Twitter too. I even only use twitter for school notifications lol.

If younger people haven't graduated college, I don't think their methods of getting reliable information are any better than the older generation. However, the younger generation going to college now, are probably the most advanced at finding reliable and sourceful information on the internet, which older people may not be able to find if they don't know about sites like jstor and how to change google to google scholarly and little stuff like that...

However, the older generation is better at reading physical books, so that's not to say they don't have their resources (and, again, it's typically the college graduates who know how to research correctly).

I think that same group is more likely than older and unhealthy people to want to go to concerts, theme parks, and other mass gathering events. And I think all that group is hearing right now is a constant drumbeat of "it's still really bad, the variants are coming, you can't let your guard down one bit once vaccinated, and normalcy is still a long way away."

I still think the single biggest way to overcome vaccine hesitancy is to say "once you're fully vaccinated, go back to 100% normal life." Do that and I think vaccine numbers would shoot up exponentially overnight.

screenings are meant to deter...not catch anyone.

There is nothing stopping them from going back to "normal life" right now. They don't NEED to get the vaccine if they don't want it. Why would they? It's not like any kind of verification is being done. If anyone does challenge them for not wearing a mask, they can simply say, "Hey, I'm fully vaccinated!" Who can tell?

remember that the absolute youngest of Gen X is past 40 now....

and the dynamics of Discipline, spending and society roles is Vastly different if you’re younger than that.

I think anything you tell “young people” to do that isn’t fun or frivolous was likely to fail. We’re reaping what we have sown
