I haven't followed this thread in quite a while but thought I'd share some info and I apologize if others have posted this information in previous pages, I haven't had the time to read through them all. This is from a meeting I had with other healthcare leaders in my state (MI) this morning. The current vaccines seem to be effective against the UK strain, somewhat effective against the South African, and have very little effectiveness against the Brazilian strain. There are thoughts than an additional booster of each type of vaccine will be recommended in the next 3-6 months. This begs the question then if this becomes a chronic or seasonal disease (which seems likely) when do we then relax restrictions due to the socioeconomic and psychological effects that they are having on the population? In my own practice and that of the docs I review the amount of mental health issues has risen 3-4x and we're now seeing the effects of loss of income on our patients' health. No answers here, just some things to think about.
