On layoffs, very bad attendance, and Iger's legacy being one of disgrace

It seems to have been pushed out of the forum's collective consciousness or forgotten, but not too long ago there was that big expose that leaked on here that shook the community. It essentially laid out that many alleged "insiders" are actually people paid from within the company to purposely leak the inside information and opinions they tell them to, in an attempt to sway public opinion, and that this practice has gone on since the early 00's. Was it concrete proof? No, but it's something I and many others had suspected for a long time, and we have little reason to believe it any less than the other "insider" info dumps.

As I said in my previous post in here, I've been here almost 20 years, and it's absolutely a recurring pattern on this forum. Some major event or announcement happens, and sure enough, not too much later, a big spectacle of an expose thread appears and all the "insiders" crawl out of the woodwork to drop a boatload of insider info with a heavy dose of Doom & Gloom. Every time, you'd think the company was going to collapse, the parks were going to be sold, etc. Never happens.

Why do all the insiders always show up at the same time? Why do they all have a very similar style of posting and communicating?

Option B: Often, the "insider info" is just the collective news, rumors, and opinions already known and expressed throughout the online community, only wrapped up and written in a way that implies official-ness. As in, anyone who pays close enough attention could reasonably write something up that sounds like insider info leak.

Things to consider before blindly trusting threads like this and panicking.
I wasn’t on this forum then...

But I have to say I am still surprised that had to be “exposed”

Nobody is better at data collection/manipulation than Disney...since the pre-computer age...

So was it not always reasonable to think they’d mole, misdirect, data mine on the internet?

So much bang for their buck.

I can think of two phenomena:
1. People saying they’d pay no matter what...and low and behold prices go up all the damn time (consumer malfeasance)
2. Floating things that will never be - like country pavilions and new parks - which drives interest and sells more trips in the interim. Free, targeted advertising.

Skip the reading, just post. :D

You haven't missed any park discussions of substance. Just more riffing on the "is the virus serious or not." Wrapped in a bit of," Disney will bounce back just fine." "No they won't." The longer you wait to post something new, the longer the rest of us have to deal with nonsense, and it will be another 20 pages.

Don't forget at least 10 pages of "The Film Industry is Open" "No It's NOT!" back and forth. (IF you are wondering, it isn't really)

The expose in question was suggesting more than just gathering data on public opinions and habits, but rather the act of directly leaking info and data that makes the company look bad, as a way to hurt consumer confidence to influence changes internally. This would be a somewhat unique practice, as most companies couldn't afford to intentionally hurt their public perception and expect favorable outcomes from it.

I could see that too...

There was always a significant “romanticism segment” within the offices under the last two regimes...

Those that work for a corporate behemoth that say it ain’t so and at heart it’s about “magic”

They are wrong - of course.

And it was bad during the “Disney war” years...I would think it’s more muted, but more intense under Blue Ocean Bob

Oh, I’m very familiar with that thread. Occasionally, I post something asking how/why everything would go back to normal around here after that. Still haven’t heard a very satisfying answer.

It’s the common voice/tone that makes me think several members posting here are just characters being played.
I know, someone is going to post “Disney doesn’t care what’s being posted on a fan site like this!” But I think they do. Content flows pretty wide through social media, and this site is one of the sources.

Which come back to this:

So much bang for their buck.

Whether your motives are to shape public perception, influence consumer behavior, or affect political ideologies, it would be very efficient and effective to have couple people posting here as “Insiders.”

So you are saying if I am under 80 its ok to get the virus and transmit it to other people, just make sure they are under 80??? so, choose to go to crowds and get infected and then just choose to NEVER see your parents, or family members that have asthma or are high risk? Not sure I understand the mentality, and if wearing a mask allows more freedom of movement, why not wear one, I am so confused my peoples mentality on this, its science, not opinion
No, I didn’t say that.

I ALWAYS wear a mask, despite people WELL over 60 constantly refusing to do so.

Im out of whisky BUT NoVa cases are spiking where I am so Imma make do with Tequila.
Love seeing a fellow Virginian on here. I’m in the Hampton Roads area. I thought NoVa was stable. Busch Gardens is looking to open in August. They have had a couple changes on their website that looks like some type of reservation system. No word about Water County yet (we have 2-park passes)

Absolutely. For example, this site is THE source as to why every low-informed Disney Park fan thinks that Expedition Everest has to be partially dismantled to get the yeti out or do extensive work on it.

They aren't presenting their information as a conspiracy though, but as fact. Because they are "insiders".
I take what they post as partially true. Its not always Sunny and full of pixie dust at Disney. I do believe they are worried about attendance and there is a reason they have shelved some projects. They are hurting for money as much as you don't want to believe it

Nationwide?

I'm sure hard core coaster enthusiasts(a relatively extremely small number) as far away as San Diego make pilgrimages there for some kind of "right of passage" but to characterize the place as a national draw just ain't right......folk however will travel nationwide for a "Flight of Passage"
I have gone to Cedar Point from Houston.
