The Troubled History of Epcot’s Abandoned World Showcase

I have always been okay that they did not initially build more countries, as it gave them the opportunity to expand as nations became more prominent. But, I have been disappointed they have not added more since. Not adding Equitorial Africa was probably a good idea because it would likely not be looked on kindly in today's world to have every country have its own pavilion except for the African ones... (and, yes, I know Morocco is in Africa, but it, alongside the other countries north of the Sahara, have drastically different cultures)

I think its a bit sad that we never got a full world showcase with multiple nations and attractions so much potential but the end result has basically been an outdoor mall. I would have loved to see more countries represented either on their own or as groups like scandinavia. I also think it would have great to have more diversity and move away from the western europe centric showcase as built

I'm rather happy that the Venezuela Pavilion never got built. Lord knows those socialist loonies that took over and ruined the country might try to claim that WDW is partly theirs.
Or a Brazilian pavilion. Dont give then more reason to send more obnoxious tour groups.

Well you could have got your own back if they had by chanting and talking loudly through any shows they had there, along with saving places in the line for 20 of your buddies

Booooo.
Brazil would have been great.
I love those tour groups...they are always happy and loud......but happy.

I'm okay with them being happy and a bit on loud side. What I'm not okay with is when there are groups of 50+ teenagers on vacation who decide to be rude and pushy, and the chaperones who don't seem to give two craps about actually chaperoning.
Case in point, when I was at WDW back in July 2019, a group of them were disembarking Living With The Land....before the boat had even pulled in to the station.

I don't think it's "Brazilian Culture" as many have alleged; in fact, I suspect that if you had large groups of wealthy-class teenagers traveling on vacation to another country with little to no supervision, they're going to run amok regardless of where in the world they're from.
It just so happens that these groups of teenagers just happen to be from Brazil.

It's definitely not Brazilian culture.

Many Americans act like this when they visit Europe. Probably everywhere else too, but I've seen it firsthand in Europe. And it's not just teenagers; it's adults too.

I have experienced the same from a group of American cheerleaders.
They are teens......why should we expect any less.
I have personally found international traveling groups to have more respect and manners compared to their American group counterparts.

Fun game: let's imagine that we could fill the remaining eight World Showcase slots, ignoring Sommerhaus, Ratatouille, and the Events Pavilion. What would you eight be?
Mine:
1) Brazil
2) Spain
3) Australia
4) Egypt
5) India
6) Thailand
7) Greece
8) Switzerland
I'm also open to Peru, Israel, Chile, and Korea.

It's strange watching those videos and seeing how many budget cuts there were back then, sometimes on here you get the impression that back then that sort of thing never happened and everything was perfect. I do realise that back then Disney wasn't financially as powerful as it is now, with it's fingers now in so many pies. But even so it seems the price of adding even just one more pavilion wasn't justified unless that country coughed up the money.

I suppose the problem could have been that after existing countries were already being sponsored by their nations that if Disney added say Spain and the Spanish Government weren't asked for any money, that the other existing countries wouldn't be happy that they had to pay? I did find the documentary fascinating but part of me is kind of glad that there's not 20 countries or more crammed in there. I quite like the spacing in between the nations to give them the separation, though a few more (along with a few more attractions) wouldn't go amiss.
