MK parking area construction?

Anyone know what they’re doing at the back of the MK parking area and old speedway? Huge hole in the back of parking lot and lots of earth being moved on old speedway.

Middle is being filled in to expand parking and lower will be forested.

I always assumed the space was in the middle to help with drainage. That is a lot of surface area to drain in a hard Florida rain. I am sure they thought about it, but I hope this doesn't cause flooding or people walking to their cars in the rain.

I’m sure they know the lot is actually part of a 100 year flood plain. Surely.

All above makes sense but the hole and large dirt pile are in the very back section, behind the pond (right at the back).

My understanding is that the center area was actually a sinkhole that opened up during the early site prep of the parking lot area. They just opted to work around the location instead of attempting to mitigate the sinkhole. It seems they feel confident it can be filled now and be safe after all these years. There is a massive pile of dirt just south of the parking lot on the area of the old track right now that seems staged for the infill that will be needed to raise the levels back up to the rest of the lot for paving.

How do you mitigate a sink hole?

You have to excavate down to solid material and then refill the hole. If the sinkhole was caused by something man made (eg broken drainpipe, etc.) you would, of course, fix that issue prior to refilling.
