Wanting to spend a few days at Universal, and about a week at WDW, then do sea life, discovery cove etc

I am a non driver so would need to take Uber's etc

Universal is coming up quite expensive for a few days stay and doesn't include food, whereas Disney does include food, so would be an Under ride to Universal on the days we visit there.....

Are you flying into MCO (Orlando) or Sanford. If MCO, you can use free Disney transport. Then it's just a matter of choosing the WDW hotel that fits your budget.

Scritchell...I voted for Disney because I am familiar with your plans, BUT I would personally stay off site at a hotel that had a shuttle to all the parks, the only time you would have to do an Uber is when you do Sea Life on International Drive. Check out the Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista(clarionlbv.com)...I mentioned it in a previous post on your page. I got 8 nights with breakfast buffet each morning for $528...let me know I will give you the website I used! By staying off site, you will save a few hundreds! I understand about being immersed in Disney, I would too because I have never stayed on property, but I would rather save the money for an off site hotel because 99% of the time will BE OUT OF YOUR HOTEL ROOM...why spend hundred of dollars for a room you won't get to enjoy!? I understand about EMH and being on property for that, BUT if it were me, I would stay off property since I will have 3 weeks to do everything I am planning. With 3 weeks, won't that give you 2 days at each WDW park and still have time for Universal, Discovery Cove and Sea Life? Just trying to give you other ideas to save some money. I know coming from the UK to Disney can be expensive!

My brother & family stayed offsite, so I joined them. There is a major drawback to using hotel shuttles - they only run at certain times, so if you miss one going in either direction, you will have to use Uber/taxi/etc anyways. And you have to plan your exit from the park to arrive at the pick-up point on time - so end up wasting time waiting, and cutting your day short due to the shuttle schedule.

I've found that the convenience of having multiple shuttles so I can come and go on MY schedule is worth the extra cost to stay on property. But that's just me.

Usually, in the case of a non driver, I would suggest staying at a WDW resort. But given the amount of time you plan on going to non Disney Attractions. I'm not sure that's the most budget friendly option. Yensid makes a lot of sense with the recommendations for a hotel like the Clarion, which offers shuttles to multiple parks, not just WDW's.

Yes, you would have to pay for transport to and from the airport. But that should only be $50-60 round trip. That's likely cheaper than all the Ubers you'd have to take if staying in WDW.

I also wouldn't assume your costs would be less because Disney calls their package "free dining". You're going to be paying more per night for the room for that "perk", and it won't include 3 meals a day. Free breakfast buffets are common at many American hotels. Places like the Clarion also allow kids to eat free at their dinner buffets when dining with an adult. So in this case you've got a cheaper room, free transportation to multiple parks, and some savings on dining. It wouldn't hurt to run a cost comparison between it and a WDW stay. Or maybe look at a split stay.
