Survivor: Ghost Island

It's an interesting theme for sure! Been wondering for months what Ghost Island would have and how exactly it tied into the past mistakes...and to be honest this preview leaves me quite confused still :p But I'm ready for a new season and fresh group of people. Let's hope they just lay off the twists and advantages...

I'm also confused about Ghost Island. Initially it seemed like it would be returning players to avenge their stupidity with idols(See Erik, Lauren, etc). But then it showed all new people in the preview.

Personally, I think the game has gotten too Idol influenced. Also too many twists that undo sound game play. And Way too many times where they get food and pampering.

But you know that is all for TV and unpredictability...for the new viewer.

I'd love to see the next season be Survivor, The Beginning. Go back to the same location as the first ever season, play by those rules, no food, no help, no idols or twists. Then see how these new school players adjust to that.

The last season I can remember that I actually liked seeing idols played was Cambodia. Wentworth was amazing. The final 6 Tribal was amazing. But now that Tribal is becoming too commonplace, especially since we've added so many advantages.

The entire theme of this season screams twists and turns from the past that others have screwed up. I don't think we'll ever see Survivor turn back to the good old days. It might have produced more "boring" episodes, but the gameplay was 90 times better, and we actually saw strategy unfold. You can't have a strategy at the beginning of the game anymore. Because you never know what will happen. That's why it's almost foolish for players like Kim Spradlin to come back. She can't play her game anymore.

Based on recent seasons, I was expecting something more like Survivor: Tyrannosauruses vs. Stegosauruses vs. Brontosauruses. They'd come up with a weak explanation for what each represents, and questionably divide the castaways into a the three-tribe format that's always resulted in balanced teams. When challenges or tribals go a certain way, a castaway would say something like "As tyrannosauruses, we are physically strong in challenges" or Jeff would ask something cringe-worthy like "As brontosauruses, does the way you strategize and form voting blocs become more complex?" After just three episodes of the season, they'd drop their buffs and switch tribes, but somehow still carry their original dinosaur title. "I'm the only stegosaurus left in the game," Doctor Joe would say at the beginning of the finale.

In all seriousness, I don't understand how this next season is going to work, but it sounds like a fine name and a fine concept. Of course it'd be nice if they'd ever leave Fiji, but I can't ask for too much. Lastly, I see the snuffers hanging. I assume those are recreations or just for the promo?

According to Jeff, everything is the authentic set piece from its individual season, which I think is pretty cool. He talks about it in his interview with Wigler https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/l...rk-burnett-preview-new-seasons-twists-1069737

Jeff doesn't keep many souvenirs from Survivor, but the thing he's always kept has been the snuffers. They are authentic, and they will supposedly be hanging over where the Survivors sleep to represent sleeping under the death of people's games.

I really love the name of this season. The theme is up in the air depending on what they do with it.

I did know the snuffers are pretty much the only souvenir he keeps, which is part of why I was surprised. If I were in his shoes, I would probably be more protective of them. Good on him for not being me! Since Jeff sounded happy about his decision in that interview, I'm assuming nobody went crazy and sliced them all in half.

And yeah, the theme could be a bust, but I feel like it has far more potential than most recent ones.

I'm glad it's not a _____ vs ______ season. I liked BvW and BvBvB, but these other ones have been a stretch of quality theming.

I'm overall not a fan of when they try to put people into categories. BvBvB was the exception, because those are actual Survivor skills, rather than a subgroup of a population.

And the categories only last three to four episodes because of tribe swaps.

The press has started for Ghost Island! Along with several promotional interviews, they recently released the "Meet the Cast" videos. I know these videos mean absolutely nothing, but I really like Kellyn. She seems down to earth, with just the right amount of quirkiness.

Some info from what I’ve read/listened to:

Ration of rice cut in half. Both teams are given fishing gear right away and told to go get their own food.

It’s two 10 person teams.

At the marooning there will be a challenge. Winner gets a shelter building kit and flint, but there will be an option for the team that’s losing to surrender (not sure exactly how this works yet)

At first, the tribe that wins the immunity challenge will pick someone from the losing tribe to go to Ghost Island. That person stays at Ghost Island while the rest of their tribe goes to tribal council.

I just started listening to the pre game interviews, but I know it’s a young cast with a lot of knowledgeable Survivor fans. I’m looking forward to this season.

They said it had to be mostly Survivor super fans for this theme to work.
