What an awesome day @ajrwdwgirl ! I wonder if our local Hershey Bears(not NHL but it is the closest), does something like that. I remember the diner from Mighty Ducks. :)

A lot of pro teams do that sort of things during training. If the Bears are a division of a NHL team they may do it later as a lot of the players go to training with the NHL team in case they get picked to be on the full NHL team. The Wild usually have free scrimmages for development camp in July, then open practice and scrimmages during training camp in September, and a open outdoor practice in January/February. There is always a pretty big turn out and kids just love it because they get to see their players up close. Yesterday I watched as a little girl was watching and one of our Star hockey players flipped her a puck over the glass, she was so delighted!

But football teams and basketball teams often have open practices and scrimmages for free around here during training. It is a nice free perk for fans. Check the teams facebook or websites, that's where you'll probably see notice of the free events if they have any.

I loves me a greasy spoon! Diners are the best, and very hard to find now. There's a few left in my state. Some years ago, hubs and I had this hobby of driving around New England to find diners. It was fun! Love the style of the one you went to--that's exactly how I like to see them (the few that remain . . . :cautious: ).

About 10 years ago, there was one that was well known in our parts, but the owner sold it to another chef. The new chef completely changed the menu into some sort of gourmet cooking menu, and guess what? It didn't last a year under the new ownership--epic fail.

Your REAL diner deserves another bow here.

Years ago, my Uncle owned a diner just like that one in Windsor, Vt. Creatively named The Windsor Diner. Loved visiting him and my Aunt. Milkshakes instead of water. Score!!!! The last time I went through there it was still there but that was a while ago. Not sure anymore.

Reminds me of my Father. He never once flew in an Airplane, even into the 90's. He had been a mechanic on a P-47 during WWII. His favorite reason was... "I know what can go wrong with airplanes". He refused to acknowledge that perhaps the technology had changed over the years. He had us all scared to death about flying, however, I did it anyway and took a college trip to Europe. That didn't mean that I wasn't acutely aware of every single odd noise that plane made. After he passed away, my daughter was graduating in Colorado Springs and my mother wanted to attend, but, she also had never flown. We talked her into it, but, I swear that she practically pulled the arm rests off the seats during take off. Didn't take her long though to be sold on flying. One look out the window at the world below and that was all it took. Within a couple of years she was taking solo trips to friend all over. She was a tiny, needy looking old lady and people flocked to her to help her get where she needed to be. She played the part of little miss helpless and let them. She loved the attention. In this world you do what it takes to survive.
It's funny but I have no fear of flying what so ever but on my first job I got to read all the FAA alerts on what could go wrong with planes.

I think that coming from a rural area in upper, upper New York State the concept of flight was still more magic then technology. I don't think he ever got out of the CoP idea expressed by Father concerning the Wright Brothers. "It'll never work".

I grew up watching planes going in and out of EWR and TEB so planes were second nature. I really miss the airport in Hershey:(

My goodness, the Disney crowds all went up to Waco!! :jawdrop: :D

A very happy birthday to your DD. Magnolia Farms looked like a really fun place to visit--I love places like that.

P.S.: Your steak poblano dinner looked soooo delicious!!! :hungry: :hungry: :hungry:

Thanks, and too funny!
At one point I thought about posting "This is Waco's Walt Disney World"...I, honestly, really couldn't believe how crowded it was, but, it was definitely a great time! All of the employees even act similar to Disney CMs...they were awesome...!!! :)
And yes, that food was so very good...!!!!! :hungry:

My grandmother was the same way, she sailed to and from Europe just to avoid them. It took forever to get her up in a plane(her first flight wound up being in a Cessna 172)
That still remains as my achilles heal. I have never been able to ride in a single engine plane. I want backup power, I know what can go wrong with combustion engines. That actually may have been my Fathers problem as well. Jet engines have helped me deal with it. I have been fortunate enough to have flown all over the world at one time or the other. Still my first thought when boarding an airplane is ... sure hope the plane don't crash. After boarding, I don't even think about it again.

At least most single engine planes glide very well if you lose the engine:)
