Is it worth it or should we wait...

Have visited the The World 12-15 times over my 32 years and counting life span. Last visited May 2016 with my partner & had an amazing time as always. We did say though that due to the high costs of a Disney trip & curiosity of exploring other countries / cultures we would not return for another 3 years or so..

Yet last night we had the 'are you missing it too?' discussion and quickly & excitedly began planning a trip for November this year, financial calculators in tow!

But I'm wondering if we are just getting carried away with the idea and whether it is best waiting another couple of years as originally planned?

Has anything significant changed from May last year to November this year that warrants a 'must do' trip?

Disney is like a drug. But for us Brits it's more than just Disney - it's the amazing weather & food that makes us crave it all the more! Not to mention the shopping too!

Grateful for your thoughts / opinions

If you don't mind waiting until 2021 (not all that far away actually :jawdrop:), more of the new attractions will be open and it will also be their 50th anniversary celebration. Personally, I couldn't wait that long so we're going back early in 2018 and no more Disney trips until 2021 for the 50th. It's going to be a loooooong wait.

I think I'd just take the train to Paris and get my Disney fix there while waiting for Star Wars, Pixar and the transportation upgrades to finish... In fact, I wouldn't seriously consider a return to WDW until AFTER the 50th anniversary...

We went 3x between Dec 2014 and July 2015. Each trip was a week long. We found the trip in July to be the "we went too often" trip. We did buy APs and learned much for those trips. Instead of park commando routine, the third trip was to go to the parks for about 4 hours in the morning, enjoy the resort and relax the rest of the day. After dinner, decide if we wanted to explore Disney Springs or head to a park for fireworks. It was the most enjoyable Disney vacation we had. We are planning a similar routine this Summer. We are there for 2 weeks. There will only be one commando day.. The rest will be a few hours and then relaxation.

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.

Perhaps you could try a disney cruise to lengthen the gaps between Orlando trips. There are some that run to and from Dover that could be a good option.

This is very true. As with most any drug or addiction, the longer you go without it the more you want it!!
As for it being "worth it? that it is completely up to you. Things are always changing in the World and many will either have the mind set of I want to go soon so I don't miss doing ride or attraction XYZ one more time before it closes/ends or you will have the mind set of I'm going to wait until new ride/land ABC is opened. Personally, we don't take any of the rides/lands/attractions into account when we plan our trips. If we can afford to go and our schedule allows it, we go! If the bank account and schedule says we should wait another 6-12 months then we wait.

I agree about the Disney being like a drug. But the shopping? Have you seen the exchange rate lol?! You got your trip in before the pound crashed after the Brexit vote. We went in December, even my shopping mad DS (21) decided a 2 hr mall visit and a trip to Disney Springs was enough, and bought a single pair of jeans. Saved his money and bought it online when we got back.

Seriously I would wait a bit longer.

we went back after 18 months.. and it was great but boarderline too soon.. and so now we are discussing going a year from now.. it will be two and a half years.. that's about right for us.. and THEN come back for the 50th.. so may of 18 first and then a return trip.. I will be 61 the next trip.. and it gets harder to walk all of it.. but ITS BETTER THEN THE ALTERNATIVE..

If your going to do a long trip then just make Disney a part of it and don't spend more than 3 days there. Do some time at Universal if you want the park atmosphere... if not then go further south and hit the Florida keys then you'll have good weather and have decent beaches compared to what you get around central Florida.

  • Pandora is opening next month, (It'll host 2 attractions located in Animal kingdom and is the biggest expansion in WDW recently.)
  • Rivers of Light debuted earlier this year (The new and first night time show in Animal kingdom, highly suggest seeing it.)
  • Frozen ever after located in epcot
  • New night time fireworks at Magic Kingdom
  • New projection show at Magic Kingdom
  • Soarin Around The World (Formerly Soarin) with a new film flying over various world-famous landmarks/natural features.
  • Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire show in Magic Kingdom
  • *Whatever Holiday entertainment they plan on doing, last year Disney Springs got a new holiday Drone show, a new holiday stage show in Magic Kingdom, and a new holiday firework show in Disney's hollywood studios.*
It's really not worth waiting to go in a few years if you're not really a Star Wars junky (Once Star Wars Land opens in Disney's Hollywood studios, it'll be so packed, so i suggest if you want to see DHS before it's transformed into a crammed star wars convention, go now). and Toy story won't be anything special either.

All those things you have bullet pointed are definitely a draw to going there in November.
That was really helpful - thank you!

Thank you for all your replies - more likely a yes than a no for November. It's the Disney drug - what can I say?
Oh I get that, that's why we are DVC members. It is so hard to stay away. I say yes to this November then in a few years when Star Wars is out you'll be ready to come back. I am not a fan of Avatar the movie but even I am interested in going to check out the new land based on videos I have seen.

The main thing is the Avatar Land in the Animal Kingdom that will have changed during that of time. There is also the change of Wishes to Happily Ever After Night Time Show at the Magic Kingdom that would be different. Other than that I really can't think of anything else. So if you are a big Avatar fan than yes coming back when you are planning would be a good idea. I have found even though I have been 15 times things at Disney never get stale no matter if it is the same rides and shows I am seeing. I get into this little kid mindset that gets me so excited no matter what when I am there that if it is something I rode more than 50 times or the 1st time I still going to be excited about it.

I just want to stress the Holiday point.

Last year was my first time at Disney during all of the Christmas decorations and events..
It Blew Me Away.

When Elsa "lit the castle" I had tears in my eyes..I've never seen anything like it.

I personally think it's best to go now. Although TSL is opened next year with SWL the following, I can imagine Disney will be doing heavy refurbs over the next few years for the 50th so I wouldn't want to risk planning a trip and find some of the great attractions are closed.

My partner and I are from the UK too and we have a trip planned for November and then we probably won't be going back until the 50th or after... I say that though but can I really wait 4/5 years? :D
