Thanks to @kmbmw777 for this idea.

This thread is specifically for the final drafts of the projects we work on, to keep them all organized in one central location. It is also home to the "nightly recaps" -- which provide a synopsis of our progress so far in the projects.

Some have requested that these nightly recaps not be placed in the main brainstorming page because they are difficult to find, so now that they have their own dedicated thread - I'd ask if we could just please not start large tangents of conversation -- and keep any and all posts related to the final drafts and/or the nightly recaps so everyone can keep up! Enjoy!

Monday March 13th - Recap and Synopsis

Starting off with our trusty map drawn by @kap91
img_3024-jpg.193214

The last few days have seen an explosion of different ideas and concepts. While that's great - it can also be a bit confusing (even to me..and I'm the one writing the recap:p)

If it wasn't clear - the objective of this project is "Blue Sky"

Meaning in this case, that the project as a whole can veer more on the side of armchair imagineering and less on the side of a current day WDI budgeted land. After the land is assembled and pieces begin to come together - that is when we can talk about the realism factor, but until then -- again -- everything is blue sky.

With that said -- this infers that if you have an idea for an IP listed above, or one of the surrounding mini-lands -- feel free to chime in and even go as far as to begin working on the concept yourself! The more finished/semi-finished concepts we have, the easier it will be to assimilate them all into one cohesive land, rather than attempt to create the entire land first and then build the individual pieces.

There are 3 other brainstorming threads focusing on different aspects of the project already up on the forum.

Fantasia Castle and the surrounding area
Beauty and the Beast area
Villains Mini-Land

Those can be found if you just scroll through the Imagineer forum home page.

As of now, these are the tallies of attractions and the people commenting on either the threads themselves and/or posting a keen interest in these concepts on the lounge thread here. These are not final, and can change based on interest/activity, but just scrolling through the threads...

I would just like to reiterate that since this is a blue sky project -- I think our attention should be less focused on where these attractions, shows, aesthetics "fit" in the land, but rather and attempting to design and create immersive singular experiences, that when assembled together could be something special.

The less time we spend worrying about "this won't fit" "we can't include this" -- the better. We'll focus on that during the final phases of the project.

For now -- let's have today focus on brainstorming the specifics about these attractions, our goals and aspirations for them, encourage each other to pursue them, and go from there!:)

Thursday March 16th - Fantasyland Progress Report

Some reading music:

As we are just over a week from this project's inception, there have been a variety of updates to discuss and keep everyone informed with how the project is shaping up!

Instead of going through piece by piece -- I'll summarize the advancements over the last few days with links to their respective pages for feedback and further brainstorming.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

First off we have the exciting news that @Imagineerland 's "A Tangled Tale" will be used as a Tangled attraction in this Fantasyland. It's brilliant design will fit perfectly with the surrounding aesthetics and be a great addition to the land.

Next up is...

@OvertheHorizon 's Beauty and the Beast Pre-Show

upload_2017-3-14_21-14-15-png.193911

"Here is my concept for the pre-show to the Beauty and the Beast attraction. It would utilize a carousel of four theaters arranged in a “donut” which revolves around a fixed stage area. Except for the top row – to accommodate wheelchairs and motorized chairs – the rows of seats would be on a slight incline to afford maximum view. The entire pre-show experience (from load to exit) would take 12 minutes, with the theaters rotating counterclockwise.

This design presumes a ride capacity of approximately 2,400 guests per hour (40 guests boarding ride vehicles per minute). For reference, the Little Mermaid ride at Magic Kingdom has a 2,200 capacity per hour.

The queue would bring guests to the entry doors for what is indicated as theater #1 on the drawing. After the guests take their seats, there would be a short intro before the theater begins to rotate to the next stage position. (Theater #4 would then be in the “load” position and it would fill up, etc.). All four of the theaters would be in continuous use.

The carousel would rotate a quarter-turn every three (3) minutes, exposing the guests to a new portion of the pre-show. After the guests have rotated to the 4th stage position, that portion of the show would also be short, and guests would then exit to the ride.

As shown on the design, each row of seating would be a spacious 36” with the top row even more spacious to accommodate wheelchairs. The depth of each theater would be approximately 30’ from stage to back wall.

Although I want to give a lot more thought to the pre-show (possibly waiting until I see the live action Beauty and the Beast movie this Friday), for the pre-show part 1, I’m envisioning a large-scale gilded book, a drawing of the Beast’s castle on the left side and the words “Once upon a time…” on the right side. In the short introductory segment at position #1, I would utilize rear projection technology to change the words/pictures on the book.

Pre-show part two, would continue the book theme, with video screens providing a more dynamic presentation and an AA figure of Cogsworth to provide narration.

Pre-show part three, would once again continue the book, with Mrs. Potts and Chip there to narrate.

In the final pre-show scene, I’m thinking Lumiere would appear with the representation of the rose with the falling petals, which is certainly the looming timekeeper of the story.

I look forward to your reactions/comments/suggestions – more about the concept of using the revolving theater, since the pre-show itself is still only a glimmer in my mind.

This Pre-Show will be attached to a Beauty and the Beast Dark ride that is still in development being discussed here:

Progress on London Square

My ideas for Pan:
Queue- Guests would start through the nursery, with similar effects to the WDW queue. Guests would end up traveling into the dreams of the darling children about Neverland itself. Guests would walk through hangman's tree, the forest, the mermaid area, and maybe the pirate cove before going to the boarding area.

Ride through- Like most interpretations of the ride, guests would begin soaring through the nursery. They will see the children beginning to fly with pixie dust effects. They will also see Peter's shadow on the wall signalling them to follow, and he will utter his famous line, "come on everybody, here we go". As guests fly out of the nursery, grounded Nana will begin to float with pixie dust, but she will be tied to her doghouse like a balloon. Guests will soar over London. They will transition to a scene of a slightly closer perspective of Big Ben, and they will see Peter and the gang land on the clock. Guests will head to the second star to the right, and it will explode with magic as they approach it. The classic "flight over Neverland" scene will commence, but after that, the ride vehicle will land on Neverland. Guests will go through the forest, past hangman's tree, and they'll see John leading the lost boys with the song "Following the leader". Then they will see the boys caught by the natives. Next, guests will go to mermaid lagoon where they will spy on hook taking tiger lily away. This is when they will first see the comedic crocodile Pursuing hook. Guests will go to skull rock and will encounter Hook and Pan duelling for the life of Tiger Lily. Then, guests will travel to the camp of the natives, where a celebration is taking place. The next scene will be a screen based one where Hook will kidnap the kids. However, Pan will come to their rescue, and he'll lead you to the Jolly Roger, where he will duel with Hook once again. On the other side of the mast, Peter will be at the helm, as the ship turns gold with pixie dust. In the last scene, guests will be back in the nursery with the darling children and their parents, looking at the flying ship in the sky through the window.
London Square will be a quaint area of Fantasyland that will include attractions such as Mary Poppins Jolly Holiday, Mr Toad's Wild Ride, and Peter Pan's Flight (with PPF already having a synopsis above):bookworm:

Matterhorn inspired "Frozen Mountain"
3019718620956601832%253Faccount_id%253D9

An idea for a Swiss Village area popped up in brainstorming, with all the European countries being used as themes for the certain areas of Fantasyland -- however in order to not be a complete replica of the Matterhorn, Frozen Mountain (tentatively called) will be a dark ride hybrid attraction - possibly with a drop tower technology associated with it.

Conversation is still ongoing and you can chime in to the Club 32 Lounge for more conversation on it!

Fantasia Castle Design

Another area in flux as of now and could potentially change as time goes on @MA Screamin' and company will be tasked with designing a Fantasia inspired castle and attraction inside.

These are two sample layouts for now -- conversation has been had about having the castle change colors throughout the day (as seen in the picture on the right hand side)

Theater Show
@LSCreative is working hard on a theater show for Fantasyland -- here's a sneak peak at his work:
Currently Untitled Princess Musical

“Pre-Show” / Load In Area -

Guests would start their experience in the outside holding area known as the “Village Square” whilst in this area, guests will have a chance to purchase show specific merchandise, as well as speciality food and beverage offerings. There are plenty of areas for guests to sit and relax whilst they wait to enter the amphitheatre. All surrounding buildings will be themed and styled to match the surrounding Fantasyland Area.

Guests views of the stage will be blocked by large castle walls, these will provide a great place to hide all of the technical control elements, as well as stage lighting and follow spots. 15mins before show time, the “gate keeper” will announce that the entry into the amphitheatre is now open.

Stage and Amphitheatre -

The amphitheatre itself is a combination of indoors and outdoors, the stage and all backstage areas will be housed in a large building, whereas the seating will be open aired, protected from the elements by a large tent/shade sail structure.

The stage will be built up of a large rock face on the right hand side of the stage, this will include trees and a working waterfall (this hides a special effect element). The left hand side of the stage will be made up of more village buildings, with a fountain of sorts in the centre. The “backdrop” to the stage will be a large multi format, LED Screen that will seperate into two different pieces to allow large set elements to enter the stage. This standard set will mainly be used for the narration, guest interaction and dialogue scenes.

For all IP specific dance/song numbers, a large sets & curtains will be flown in from the roof to allow the stage to change scene to scene. For example, during the Beauty and the Beast number, a red curtain with large golden windows will fly in, changing the look from a village, to beasts ball room.

Featured IP’s -
Beauty and the Beast
Brave
The Little Mermaid
Tangled
The Princess and the Frog

I am still working on adding more and more elements to the show, as well as more featured IP’s. Ideally the show would run for around 30mins.

I’m soon going to begin the design of the 3D Model of the entire area.

Look forward to hearing all your thoughts.
And that's it for now -- the project is coming along really nicely and as always everyone is welcome to join in and contribute any and all of their ideas/suggestions to the project -- how big or how small doesn't matter, it's just about working together for the common goal of creating fun Disney projects!

Thanks for reading and have a great night!:)

General Updates to Fantasyland

The Layout
- The only significant changes to the design is that the Winnie the Pooh attraction will now be included in a Critter Country area rather than Fantasyland proper. And the Villains "Mini-Land" has now been upgraded to a full-fledged "land"
- Everything else about the land hasn't changed since last recap, but can change in the future.

Attraction Progress
- The most progress over the last few days has involved the Villains Land, with multiple write-ups surfacing.

@gonzoWDW has written the queue for the Bald Mountain roller coaster
Queue to Bald Mountain Hydro Coaster – Heroes Hall

It has been years since the great split fractured Fantasyland. The Villains, led by Chernabog, have annexed the forest, the surrounding buildings, and Bald Mountain beyond. There was a time when villains and heroes were able to share the same area, albeit with some tension, but that is no longer the case. Since the divide, buildings which formally belonged to the “heroes” have either been repurposed for more nefarious deeds, or have been allowed to fall into disrepair. One such building is the formally grandiose Heroes Hall (there would be significantly more foliage, for the “forest”, surrounding the building than is shown below).

View attachment 194698

(Valhalla Image Cred: http://pre14.deviantart.net/ace8/th/pre/i/2016/097/9/a/gate_to_valhalla_by_leifheanzo-d9y1ei5.jpg)

Located at the foot of Bald Mountain, it is rumored that the Heroes who used to live here managed to suppress a great evil which dwells within the mount. However, the time of the heroes has passed, and their once magnificent gathering place, while still impressive from afar, shows signs of decay as guests approach for a better look. An old, worn invitation welcomes visitors with the following inscription:

“Eat, drink, and be Merry
Come visit our Heroes’ Hall
Enjoy the splendor, see how grand”

And scrawled beneath, guests see an ominous addition:

“Beware if you tarry
Even the mightiest fall
A different being now runs the land”

Guests who are brave enough to press on cross a bridge, while a river speeds below. Those with an observant eye will notice that the water feeds from the mountain. Once the bridge has been crossed, our adventures have officially passed the threshold: they are now within the courtyard of Heroes’ Hall. The stone courtyard struggles to hide its age and lack of upkeep. Grass and weeds grow through solid rock, as stone crumbles and gives way beneath the slow, unstoppable march of time. The dark forest aims to reclaim its land, and it’s impossible not to think that, within a few years, it will do so. Adding to the eerie setting, afternoon visitors feel the shadow of Bald Mountain cast over the courtyard as the sun wanes.

Whilst walking along the designated pathway through the courtyard, guests can see that Heroes Hall was abandoned in a hurry, and the departed were unable to gather all their training supplies. Targets for archery practice remain, some with arrows still piercing the hay. Looking in the distance, guests may notice that the arrow in the center of one target is fashioned from a twig.

A number of swords and shields litter the ground; one sword, slightly different from the others, resembles that of Mulan.

Near the center of the courtyard, 12 knight statues appear to be standing guard around a mountain.

The top of this mountain almost resembles a head, with horns forming its twin peaks. The mountain side could even be described as a pair of tightly curled wings.

Of course, all guests know these thoughts to be ridiculous. Mountains don’t have heads, let alone horns, and they certainly don’t have wings. The visitors proceed towards the large double doors near the end of the courtyard. An enchanted knight’s statue stands watch over the entrance of the castle, ushering guests inside the building. Once enough guests have entered the building, the knight stops any more from entering as the double doors close behind the guests within.

The cavernous hall can only be described as absolutely impressive. Vaulted ceilings ensure even the largest of heroes could fit within the building. Portraits of great heroes and heroines adorn the walls, although they have lost their luster to the cobwebs and dust which have overtaken them. A balcony along the second floor overlooks the guests within the main hall, and everyone’s eyes are drawn to the stained glass artwork at the end of the hall. The glass once again depicts knights standing guard around a mountain. However, the sun appears to set, as the light filtering through the stained glass wanes, and the room is left in darkness.

After a few seconds, a torch lights from the second floor balcony comes ablaze and an animatronic calls out to the crowd “Hey! What are you all doing here standing in the dark? Somebody get those torches lit!” A few torches are lit around the crowd. The animatronic follows up “You guys decided to visit Heroes’ Hall at night? You’re either crazy or fearless. Or both. My name is Elio. Elio Cyrus. I guess you’re all here to see what’s left of the Heroes’ Hall. Truth be told, there’s not much remaining to see. It’s been left to go to ruin, as even the villains who live in this part of the land are afraid to move in. I’m the only left, as I swore an oath to stay here and guard the mountain. Well, I also have some enchanted statues to help and keep me company, but they’re no fun to talk to. Actually, I’ve got an idea! While you’re here, let me give you a tour of the hall, like in the old days! We’ll start from the bottom and head up. Just follow that door into the basement, and I’ll meet up with you in a second!”

A large wooden door slowly swings open, and guests head down a gradient, into the basement. They walls are lit by torches, casting their glow along the corridor. On the other side of the walls, guests can hear running water. Barrels occasionally line the path, marked as containing grain, wine, ale, fish, and other necessities for a true Heroes’ Hall (one hidden container is marked Cpt JS Rum). Water drips through the ceiling and the the walls, falling on the occasional barrel.

Eventually, the corridor ends and guests enter another showroom. Elio Cyrus pops up again, this time from a room on the other side of a wall. “Welcome to the cellar!” he exclaims. “As you might guess, it takes a lot to feed an entire hall of heroes. What you might not know is” Elio is stopped mid-sentence as a deep rumbling shakes the room, the torches, and the guest’s nerves. “Oh no… tonight must be a night with no moon. That’s bad news. We need to get you out of here, NOW. You might have heard the running water surrounding the basement. There are two rivers surrounding the building. One leading back into town, and another which goes deep into the mountain. Continue down and take a right. There you’ll be able to board a boat on the river which takes you back into town. You’ll be safe there. I’m going back upstairs to guard the hall. Safe travels, friends.” This is the last guests will hear from Elio.

Guests walk down and attempt to take a right, but their path is blocked by collapsed rock. Instead, a dark shadowy feature beckons the adventurers, so they venture left, leaving the cellar and entering a cavern, surrounded by dark rock, stalactites, stalagmites, and running water. Soon thereafter, they happen upon a dock. Chernabog's ghoulish minions help load the guests aboard soul barges, assuring them they will soon reach their destination.

Updates to Come
The Beauty and the Beast Pre-Show and Queue will most likely see progress from @OvertheHorizon in the coming week! So we'll look forward to that.
- Before it slips back, I'd like to work on the Frozen Mountain attraction -- and work out the kinks for what exactly we'd like it to be.
- And when @MA Screamin' returns - talks will re-surface on the Fantasia attraction as well as our castle selection.

A lot to look forward to this week! As always if anyone wants to join in - you are more than welcome, as it's open to everyone!

Thanks and have a great day!

Villains Land is coming along very nicely, with a lot of progress to discuss.
- David has drawn the basic design of Villains Land and has said he will work on it more this weekend to flesh it out - but a rough draft of the design can be seen above!

- @orlando678- and @gonzoWDW are working on the hydrocoaster for Villains Land (with a possible contribution from @StevenU) - this coaster will be based on Bald Mountain from Fantasia.

The Haunted Mansion

Villains Academy
Write-Up by @Disney Dad 3000
Been kind of a crazy work week and getting kiddo ready for t-ball season, so haven't had a chance to fully flesh out this idea for Villains Academy. Here's what I have so far. Not entirely sure I'm crazy about it, but figured I'd post. Gearing this as a family based ride and a little light hearted. Tried to use some villains that wouldn't have a presence in FL to limit overlap.

Villains Academy
Low key, track based dark ride
No height requirements
Each vehicle will be geared to hold 4 adults or potentially up to 6 people if small children are boarding.

Background
The World of Disney has been filled with countless villains over the years. Many have had their successes, but in the end they’ve ultimately failed. What happens to these ne ’r do wells though after their failed plans? Most are never heard from again with our last images of them doing hard labor or being banished into other realms, or teeny tiny living spaces.

After 25 years of piracy, poisoning and pilfering, enough was enough.
Established in the spring of 1962, the Disney Villains Academy officially opened its doors.
Mission Statement: To try and find happily ever after for everyone. Yes, we know, we have our work cut out for us.

Meet & Greet
Adjacent to the ride entry will be M&G with a small rotating cast of Disney Villains

Queue
The exterior of the attraction will be an older ivy covered building and similar styling to the Haunted Mansion nearby. Guests will enter through large covered archways that serve as both the front entrance of the academy and the starting point of the queue.

Along the way you’ll see some of the success stories (before and after picture of Prince John sucking his thumb and then a more regal Prince John). You’ll also pass through the Relic Room. Many of the villains tools of evil are stored here as a reminder of where they came from. Among the items displayed are Cruella’s smashed up roadster and the spinning wheel from Cinderella.

As you enter the latter portion of the queue you are greeted by a life size Dean Hardscrabble, the current head of the academy.

“Welcome to the Disney Villains Academy. I would thank you for coming, but I don’t have time for such nonsense. I’m here to ensure that these students are properly rehabilitated so that they can try and do some good in the world to rectify all of the problems they’ve caused. “

“We’ve had some successes over the years, and many of our graduates have gone on to do great things. We have a few though that have proven more difficult than others and after many…….many years, we still have work to do. “

“You are going to meet some of these students today, but beware, everything is not as it seems. While they appear to be on the right track, they are just as evil as ever and will stop at nothing to leave these gates. Be on guard at all times.”

“We’ve had to go above and beyond in our training for some of our students, so you may encounter a few parts of the academy that require a spell or two. Fear not, we’ve not lost one guest yet”

After the parting words from the Dean, guests will make their way to the loading area.

Ride
Synopsis: Visitors will be taking a tour of the academy, seeing many Disney Villains up close and personal. As a background story of the ride, Cruella/Horace/Jasper from 101 Dalmations are met early on and tag on with the tour to attempt an escape from the Academy.

Beauty and the Beast
33597174905_f7d729bda2_b.jpg

Here is a draft of the Beauty and the Beast area (based on @kap91 's vision for the area)

The main attraction has been decided to be a "2-part" attraction - one part show, the next part ride. With OvertheHorizon designing the first part of the attraction (the show) -- below.

BatB Show
Written by @OvertheHorizon
MORE ON THE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST ATTRACTION PRE-SHOW

I previously outlined a pre-show set up like the Carousel of Progress (using only four theaters instead of COP's six). The theaters will revolve around a fixed stage, with rotation occurring every three minutes. The first and fourth stage "scenes" will be short (approximately 45 seconds) allowing the remaining time for guests to enter or exit. Once guests exit the pre-show they will board the ride for the attraction.

We previously discussed the idea of the ride confined to scenes in the castle. Therefore, in the pre-show, I hope to convey the information about the spell on the prince, the transformation of servants into household objects, the story of Belle and how Gaston would like to pursue her, how her father becomes a prisoner in the Beast's castle, and Belle arrives to save him.

We also discussed relying on the look of the characters from the animated movie to accomplish this attraction. However, the new live-action movie creates such wonderful images, that perhaps part of that "look" can be incorporated for physical settings.

STAGE ONE

Guests enter the first theater and take their seats to familiar introduction music from the film. The stage is curved, and at the edge of the stage is a castle wall complete with vines and a stained glass window in the center. It would look similar to this image:
View attachment 195745
With forty-five seconds remaining before the rotation of the theater, the lights dim and a narrator gives a brief introduction. Using rear projection technique, the stained glass windows change to the three images displayed below, with the changes of the windows fitting the story of the narrator.

There once was a handsome prince who lived in a castle at the edge of a small village.
But one day a wicked enchantress arrived and put the prince under a spell.
She converted him into a hideous looking beast.
View attachment 195746

The theater rotates to Stage Two, while the stained glass returns to the original image for the next set of arriving guests.

(To be continued)
STAGE TWO

As the theater rotates to the second stage position, guests see another castle wall. It is an interior wall, and unlike Stage One, this wall is convex. In front of the wall is an audio animatronic of Cogsworth.

and next to Cogsworth is a giant storybook, similar to the one pictured here:
View attachment 195755
Over the course of three minutes, with the aid of the storybook, Cogsworth conveys the following information:
1. Not only was the prince transformed by the wicked enchantress, but all of the servants and household staff were transformed into objects.
2. He explains that he was once the butler.
3. He points to the storybook, which comes to life with the story of a girl, Belle, in a nearby village, who is enchanted by books.
4. She is thought of as strange.
5. Gaston has his sights set on her, and isn't happy when she rebuffs his attentions.
The storybook comes to life using video projection to unveil these elements of the story as recounted by Cogsworth.
Musical underscoring is played throughout.

After three minutes, the theater revolves to the next scene.
STAGE THREE

The theater rotates to reveal a stage very similar to the last one. A concave Castle wall with a large storybook. In this scene, audioanimatronic figures of Mrs. Potts and Chip are on either side of the storybook. Musical underscoring is heard.

Chip begins by asking his mother if they are always going to be "this way."
She explains that there is always hope. The curse will end when the beast learns to love and be loved in return.
Mrs. Potts tells chip about the girl who has come to the castle (at this point, the storybook shares the images of Belle coming to rescue her father, being discovered by the Beast, and taking her father's place).
She shares that this may be the only hope of reversing the curse. Perhaps the servants can convince him to give Belle a chance.
This segment ends with scenes of the rose in the West Wing, and Mrs. Potts explaining to Chip that they don't have much time. Once all of the rose petals have fallen the curse can never be reversed.

The theater rotates to the fourth stage.

STAGE FOUR

As the theater rotates, we see another castle wall with a stained glass window. The wall is concave this time, to provide room for an audioanimatronic of Lumiere:

This is the theater from which guests will exit from the pre-show and line up to board the ride portion of the attraction. Therefore, there is only about 45 seconds of time.
The stained glass window this time is the image of the rose left behind by the wicked enchantress.

Lumiere says, "Oh no, another rose petal has fallen. We will all be doomed." He shouts "off stage": "Cogsworth, did you see that? We must convince him. What if she is the one? She could be our only hope." He turns to the audience and says, "Come help us make Belle feel welcome."
Guests exit the theater to board the ride (similar to the way guests leave the stretching rooms at the Haunted Mansion to board their "doombuggies." Guests will walk down a corridor of the castle to the ride vehicles.

- @orlando678- and @gonzoWDW are working on the hydrocoaster for Villains Land (with a possible contribution from @StevenU) - this coaster will be based on Bald Mountain from Fantasia.

Here is a draft of the Beauty and the Beast area (based on @kap91 's vision for the area)

The main attraction has been decided to be a "2-part" attraction - one part show, the next part ride. With OvertheHorizon designing the first part of the attraction (the show) -- below.
