MK Monorails Down

MK is busier today than I've seen it of holidays, and busier than it was Dec 26. And the express and resort loops are currently down. Resort launches and TTC ferry are massively crowded.

Don't that it's the case on this one but sometimes these short down times are caused by beam switches where they are moving trains from one beam to another. After the accident a few years ago, the protocols were changed and they are very strict about what can be happening and moving when that happens so the whole process takes a lot longer than it used to. Essentially everything on both impacted beams stops. Now, when they do that they just re-route everyone to alternate transit methods while the change is underway.

Again, don't know that is what happened it here but it's not all that uncommon and doesn't mean that anything is wrong.

The entire thing was up and down all day.

This has been the same issue I've dealt with on almost every visit to the MK in 2016.

These monorails suck. It's time for some other mass transit way to get to the park.

Late afternoon today was a problem with a train on the resort loop. Had to shut down express as well to get the train into the shop. Total closure was apparently only about 30 min. I just hit at the wrong time.

If only there was a high capacity ferry boat option... Oh wait, there is.
Oh, is that what they are there for. Who knew! I bought a canoe so I could get there if the Monorail was down.

I don't really watch it closely but are they still scheduling down time for the monorail during the lighter times of the day. I know they were doing that for awhile, but, I don't know if that is still the case. Of course, you also have to take into consideration that if a Monorail stops to wait for the station to clear it gets reported as "THE MONORAIL IS BROKEN".

Amen to that last sentence.

Yes, now that the holidays are over the mid day scheduled shutdowns for the express beam are happening again. One thing I've learned is that anytime something isn't operating exactly when someone wants it, it's broken. It could have literally been 2 minutes, but since they personally didn't see it operating, it must be because it's broken. Biggest pet peeves I have. Assumptions without fully understanding the reasoning or processes involved.

When it's down for an hour or two at a time, it's broken.

I agree. They need to phase out the monorails and purchase more buses. They could paint the buses on the exterior to look like monorails.

omg no. Buses are one of the things I like least about WDW.
That would make sense because the buses are the one thing that are not considered an attraction. Their sole purpose in life is as a utility to transport demanding guests from place to place. They were never meant to be themed anymore then they currently are. They are themed as buses. They did a very accurate job, probably the best of anything in the place, because it is completely believable that they are buses.

Getting rid of the Monorails and painting the buses to look like them would be the same as getting rid of the Haunted Mansion and painting the parking lot booths to look like HM.

The buses could be a lot better if they were customized like those great Tokyo Disney buses with the Mickey windows and seats. They remind you that you're someplace special, and they make you feel like Disney goes the extra mile for you.

To clarify, I'm not the one who said anything about painting them to look like monorails.

I don't care if buses are themed or not. They're buses. They're slow, often late or at least unpredictable, and not very comfortable.
