Trip Report *COMPLETED* No Ring (delayed), No Rivers Light, & Donald Duck’s the President

As I stir my pasta noodles for dinner, a single tear slides down my cheek. DEPRESSION. It’s cold, it’s dark, and I am home…this unfamiliar place that is not my Disney World hotel room. (PLUS WHY AM I COOKING?!) This cold Philadelphia air chills me to the core, and when I woke up this morning I contemplated chucking my cell phone out the window. I knew my alarm was waking me up for work, not to catch a Disney bus. What is this life?! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY does it have to end?! The hardest part of planning, and changing your plans, and obsessing over your plans, and then finally living out your plans is the part at the end. The part where it’s all over, it’s all done, and going on a Disney website, or checking a restaurant menu is like pouring salt on an open wound.

As you can tell from my title, no I didn’t get my Disney World proposal and no I didn’t get to see Rivers of Light. Thought I would throw all the heartbreak right at you from the get go, so we can move on to happier memories. (This just means my boyfriend owes me a BIGGER diamond, and a trip back! Maybe when ROL opens?!)

I have just returned from the most fabulous trip to Disney, and I am already itching to go back. I am trying to convince someone, anyone (hello out there!) to book a weekend getaway… That’s the thing with Disney, they always leave you wanting more! Unless it’s it just something us Disney addicts feel, we are always eager for our next fix!

For those who don’t know me, I’m Nicole, and I love Disney World. I have loved Disney World for 11 years now. (This is how they start these meetings right?!)

I was in the Disney bubble from November 4th to November 13th and it was not enough time. NOT ENOUGH TIME I TELL YOU!!! I stayed at Port Orleans Riverside and fell truly, madly, and deeply in love with this BEAUTIFUL riverside resort. My last two trips have been in July and August, and I think those trips (in the summer nonetheless) were MUCH less crowded. SO MANY PEOPLE! It was the end of a race weekend, the last week of food and wine, NJ teacher convention week, and election week. One word of advice, DO NOT EVER GO AT THIS TIME! (keep rereading the go at as goat LOL)

Let’s begin!

November 4th-

Our flight was not until 5:50 PM Friday night. I originally was planning to work in the morning, but it turned out I was able to take the whole day off. Of course I woke up super early with excitement, did all my last minute packing, and then stared at the clock for hours on end. Go figure!

This text arrived and my anxiety immediately started kicking in. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN! Will we not have room? Will they downgrade us to a tent along the riverbank? Will I have to fight off alligators and zika mosquitoes while sleeping outside? My boyfriend tried to calm my fears, and decided we should get a move on it. Airport here we come!

SEPTA was on strike (public transportation buses, etc) so of course traffic was nightmare! I tried my hardest not to freak out and bite off all my nails before even reaching Orlando.

After what seemed like forever, we made it! Hustled through security and straight for the bar!

Round 1

Round 2

Round 3—oops?

2F886687-D05C-43E1-8645-E74B01EDE1F2_zpsgob94hfj.jpg

And our first food picture of the trip! Chicken tenders! My anxiety was so high all day that I forgot to eat, and I was feeling pretty tipsy. Food is always a good idea!

We paid our tab, and decided to wait by the gate for our magical plane to Orlando! TAKE ME HOME BABY!!!

Ummm.. where is our plane?

E6D9AC7F-8DA7-4399-9AC9-733C02DC834A_zpsujuaa1nn.jpg

Come to find out our flight is delayed until 7 PM… I was too hyper and couldn’t sit still so off we went to check out the airport shops and burn off some energy.

We stumbled upon this wonderful sight, and couldn’t resist.

So much for trying to stay hungry to use up those quick service meals tonight!

The time ticked by soooooooooooo slowly. We watched a woman scream at the American Airlines attendant because he was making her check her bag… SCREAM. She kept threatening him, saying she was going to call Disney and tell them he ruined her trip. There was a family standing beside us, and they told the father he had to go on a later flight because they oversold the plane, and even he didn’t go as ballistic as this woman. Getting to Disney is stressful people!

Soon I was admiring this stunning view. HAPPY PLACE HERE I COME!

And we’re off!

5BB8E543-68A5-47FC-8F92-6138612BE98A_zps2sdvsm7r.jpg

Our flight was quick and painless, and soon the announcement came on that we arrived in Orlando!! A little boy a few rows behind us screamed out “NOOOOOOOO, we went to the wrong place! We are supposed to be in Disney World!”

I showed my boyfriend what I pro I was at maneuvering through the Orlando airport, B side, you can’t hide from me! My Mickey turned green and all my anxiety from earlier in the day melted away. The familiar aroma of the Orlando airport, the big Mickey hands waving you home, the smiling cast member’s faces, it didn’t matter if I’d be sleeping in a river, I was here!

77C06C58-A998-4E94-96FF-EF2F9C4F016E_zpspqch4zsc.jpg

Our magical express filled up quickly, and I didn’t even mind that we were one of the last stops. I soaked up that arrival feeling, the feeling that a full trip is ahead of you, that this really is the ultimate moment of beginning, that the possibilities are truly endless. Plus, it gave me more time to answer trivia questions! I think everyone on the bus thought I was psycho with the amount I got right!

And off we drove into the night. Even though the sign wasn’t lit up due to construction, I still felt it. The transition to being “on property”. That butterflies fluttering in your stomach feeling, when you know you’ve truly been welcomed home.

We exited the Wizarding World and began our wandering yet again. Where to next? We passed by Men in Black, and I could have sworn it said it was closed! I was pretty bummed, I had heard great things about this ride! @Longers mentioned riding it in her trip report- so it was probably just a temporary thing! Oh well, it's an excuse to go back!! :)

Instead of zapping aliens and saving the galaxy, we found ourselves in the home of Homer Simpson. D’oh!

5A359D70-E471-4B30-A6C8-116AF32C4CA9_zpsembwbyct.jpg

We rode The Simpsons Ride and I think it had the longest wait time after Kong! We waited about 30 minutes! It was worth it though! I haven’t watched the Simpsons since way back when I was in high school, but I really enjoyed it. There was this sign in the queue advertising cotton candy for 99 cents, and it said cotton candy, flannel candy, and linen candy all 99 cents. I was cracking up so much!

We continued our exploration of Springfield. We walked through Moe’s Tavern and witnessed someone drinking a Flaming Moe. We weren’t brave enough to try for ourselves, and now I am regretting it! BE BRAVE DEAR NICOLE!

I was missing Photopass because all our pictures from today were solely on me. LOL.. Joe was here too, I promise!

I read that The Simpsons Ride was once the home of Back to the Future: The Ride. My inner 90s child was a tad bit sad that I never got to experience this! Joe makes me watch that movie every time it is on TV now. And just look at the world now, riding on hoverboards… Marty McFly would be proud.

My youth was soon restored… ET PHONE HOME!!!

THIS ATTRACTION IS FREAKING AMAZING. I loved that the ride vehicles were actually bikes! AHHHHHHH!!! This ride seriously made me feel so many FEELINGS! :inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove:

For me, this ride created such a feeling of nostalgia. It made me yearn for the past, for days without cell phones and access to social media, and that childhood innocence that seems to disappear far too quickly from children of today. Kids nowadays are trying to grow up way too fast and it makes me sad to think of how different childhood is from 25, even 15 years ago. ET the movie is timeless, it’s a classic tale of love and friendship, and the ride portrayed this perfectly. Something about this attraction had me longing to be a kid again, riding my purple princess bike around the neighborhood without a care in the world. Gosh, I need to watch this movie right about now!

Joe and I had a sudden craving for Reeses Pieces…

Joe is 100% Irish so into the little Irish shop we went next.

Haha! Just kidding, I think he can pull it off now!

With all the excitement of trying new attractions, we seemed to have forgotten to eat lunch. WHO ARE WE??? The smell of pizza drew us into Louie’s Italian Restaurant and we soon realized we were STARVING.

Joe ordered a chicken parm sandwich with a Caesar salad, and I chose the meatball sandwich with the same salad. We decided to split a diet Coke and eat indoors.

4D51BDD2-E8EF-48AC-AF22-338DF47DB672_zpstriu1uls.jpg

I liked this lunch, it was filling, and the salad made me feel a teeny tiny bit healthy. Joe and I tried to eat slowly, but that is always a hard feat for us. We finished in no time, and I was yearning for my Disney Dining Plan dessert! Wrong theme park, Nicole! :(

After eating, we decided to go on Revenge of the Mummy. For some apparent reason, I thought this was simply a dark ride that was scary… why I didn’t read the map, I have no idea. “PLUNGE INTO DARKNESS ON THIS INDOOR ROLLER COASTER AND FACE AN ARMY OF MUMMIES.” Plunge. Roller coaster. HELLO! It pays to read the descriptions. But whose trip report would this be if we didn’t go on a thrill ride directly after eating? :p

Joe and I both LOVED this. And thank goodness! We managed to keep our lunch down and have the best time. Score!

Having no real destination, we somehow backtracked back to the Wizarding World. Or wait, this is only London…

I ended up on the Knight bus, I think it was rescuing me from the Muggle world!

Peace out muggles! There was no knight in shining armor to carry me away on his white horse, but there was this wonderfully purple knight bus to whisk me away into a butterbeer infused world. Some princesses have to take what they can get! :p

So glad you got to experience Le Cellier for the first time! It is a "must do" for our family.

My 25 year old son was chosen at the Ollivander's Wand Shop Show to receive a wand. How could we not purchase it after the wand chose him?! We ran around like little kids casting spells and squirting unsuspecting muggles with water from the fountain. It was so worth it!

I love your trip report! So entertaining and educational - I never even connected Diagon Alley with "diagonally."

I think Le Cell is a must do for me too now! It was so delicious! I wish I was eating there for dinner tonight! LOL And how cool for your son! I wish I was chosen! I want a wand so badly! I may or may not have one in my Amazon shopping cart at this very moment... Shhh! Next time I go I want to cast all the spells!

Thank you so much for reading and following along!:oops::oops::oops: I am blushing!

The Minions ride line does get crazy! It was absolutely INSANE the entire time we were there in August.. so much so that we didn't ride it. I've ridden it before so was fine with missing it, but felt bad for my nephew because he loves minions!

The Shrek 4D ride is awesome! The pre-show alone is enough to make it worthwhile. The 4D features are basically comprised of sights, smells, water spraying, and moving seats. At least that's what I think they mean by 4D! Definitely one you need to try on your next trip. ;)

The ET ride.. oh my gosh. It's literally one of my favorite rides in all of Uni/IOA! The nostalgia factor hit me too.. and the smells are so distinct! I remember them from my childhood vacations, making the ride even more nostalgic. And the bikes? Seriously one of the coolest ride vehicles ever.

Ah, see I knew I didn't make that up! I guess we got lucky having no wait! Thankful now we had the chance! :) :)
And now I am sad I didn't do Shrek. :( It sounds really cool! I am tempted to watch a video of it now on YouTube.. we shall see if I can hold out until my next trip :( :(
Glad I am not the only one who got hit right in the heartstrings with ET! I loved it so much, I hope they don't ever remove this! Do kids these days watch ET? It's such a good movie! I couldn't imagine how attached I would be if I rode this as a child! I am jealous :(

We wanted to head back to Islands of Adventure, and what better way than to hop abroad the Hogwarts Express! We were a little nervous because our paper tickets had taken quite a beating. After all the water rides and my lack of carrying a bag the first day at Uni, most of the ink had come off. Being strategically placed in my bra was not the smartest idea. Thankfully, they still scanned, but please learn from my error and stick them in a ziplock bag if you are going to shove them in your undergarments! :p

The wait this time was much shorter than our last trip abroad the Hogwarts Express; we walked quickly through the queue. I loved the London side (King's Cross), it felt just like the movie! I love the whole concept of the Hogwarts Express connecting the two parks… I wish Disney would take note and design something like this for their own. Maybe connect Hollywood Studios and Epcot somehow? Hey Imagineering, you listening? :p

The part where you walk through the brick wall before coming onto the 9 3/4th platform was sooooooo amazing! I had seen this before on people's vlogs, and I had been super excited to finally witness it for myself! Everyone around us thought this feature was just the best thing they ever did see! It's seriously so cool! Little touches of magic like this make the most lasting impressions!

I love Hedwig! Don’t know who I cried for more, Hedwig, Dumbledore or Dobby! My poor heart! :( :( :(

B92AE88D-A85A-4B9A-B899-E302D6DA72AA_zpsujyonzlc.jpg

The train came rolling in backwards, which made it seem even more magical! I swear the whole platform grew quiet and whipped out their phones and cameras as the train pulled in. Everyone was equally blown away.

8A9BAB13-BC69-4622-8024-E5DCCF448B1E_zpswwb8zqcb.jpg

It's like when you watch fireworks, and collectively exclaim "oooooh" and "ahhhhh" as a group. We all were staring with our jaws hung open, pointing at the magic in front of us.

Hedwig with her eyes open! What a beaut! :inlove::inlove::inlove: Joe and I had an owl hooting outside our house for a couple months, I think I was being secretly summoned to Hogwarts. She must have given up on me though; I haven’t heard her in a while! AHHHHH, come back to me!!! I am ready to be a wizard!

One last selfie before we were whisked away to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardy! Peace out Muggles! ;)

Again, I must repeat Universal has outdone themselves when it comes to all things Harry Potter. The themeing is impeccable. I felt that I had walked right into my TV screen. And trust me, I've tried this before to no avail! But here I finally was!!! I can’t even comment on ANY aspect as to what could be improved. It’s all perfect. Perfectly perfect!!

We got off and trekked through Hogsmeade, it was just as beautiful seeing it the second time around.

Everyone back home was buzzing with election talk, watching the news, and constantly posting their opinions on social media. Joe and I couldn't be farther away. A magical land where the only evil name being spoken aloud was Voldemort? The Dark Lord and the Deatheaters seemed like a welcome alternative to the real world. I may have developed an incurable addiction, but there was no place else I'd rather be.

I do the flip flop thing back and forth about Disney Firework Shows.....but at the end of the day, 100% my love goes to Wishes! I mean....how can it not!

Looks like you had a wonderful Universal trip. All about that frozen butterbeer....how did I exist before that? MMMmmmmmm. Ugh, The Simpson's ride. I absolutely LOVED Back to the Future when it was there, I have such fond memories of it from my childhood. Not as big a fan of the Simpson's ride, but everyone I went with loved it - maybe I am not so keen on it because last time I rode it, it made me sick...like on myself, during the ride....not fun LOL.

I 100% agree that Universal has out done themselves when it comes to all things Harry Potter. I do wish they would use that same creativity and put the same amount of detail into other items within the parks. I'm personally a bit bored with their screen rides (don't get me wrong, they are good, but they are all to the same and they blend into one another) and they tend to make me sick (my own problem, I know, but geeeeeeeeze).
