Requesting China Plates in Villa Studios

Hi there, I had been told that you can request from mouse keeping a set of China plates and bowls for deluxe studio villas - instead of using it making do with the paper plates. We are there usually for 14 or 21 days and it's really disheartening to just throw away so many plates during our stay. So we were going to request China bowls and plates instead - has anyone else done this in a studio? I would rather wash plates and bowls than throw away so much. We always take proper knives and forks too and I purchased an electric kettle last time and always take that with me and some plastic picnic plates and bowls but if I can get China that saves me space in the suitcase coming from UK

Studios don't have kitchens or dishwashers, so it would be challenging to wash all of those dishes. That's why they supply the Studios with paper products.

Well that IS why they call washing dishes a "chore." But if the OP has no problem with the work whilst on vacation (see what I did there UK lady? With the "whilst?") then perhaps the resort won't have an issue offering her actual plates.

I'm sure they are concerned about people not doing their dishes by hand, letting them pile up and bringing in roaches or worse. However, I'd think anyone who is asking for actual plates, knowing their room does not have a dishwasher, would be more inclined to wash them often.

To the OP, are you a DVC member or did you book the room through Disney? If it's the former, you might need to ask the prson from whom you rented points to ask for you. If it's the latter, call Disney and make the request as early as possible. If, for some reason, they say they can't do it, then at least you know sooner rather than later.

That's a great question! Please know that dish ware would not be available by request for a deluxe studio. The main reason is because the rooms are not equipped with a dishwasher and a dishrack. I really appreciate your understanding.

Head to Target and buy a few loose plates and bowls and a larger amount of dish washing liquid for your stay. You will have to spend a penny or two, but help save a mouse sized piece of the planet.

But unless you're bringing those plates home, are you doing that much to "save a mouse seized piece of the planet?"

Don't get me wrong, I'm total bleeding heart, but sometimes I read about people buying things just for the trip they'll never use again, from cheap toasters to hot plates or electric kettles, coffee makers, even cheap microwaves in the values. Air mattresses. Christmas lights around the holidays because you know, you gotta decorate your room or else you want the terrorists to win. And a lot of people buy the cheapest stuff they can find and either toss it on check out day...or leave it in the room, so maybe someone in Mousekeeping will bring it home. But if Mousekeeping tosses it, they'll never know and just assume it went to a good home.

Now, if the OP wanted to get reusable plates, it might be good to head to a store before departing to WDW and see if some plastic plates could be packed with the luggage. Normally china > plastic, but china has a greater risk of breaking in travel unless you really pack them well which might require more padding and thus more space. If there's room in the bags for plastic plates and bowls and washable cutlery, "compromise" by using the refillable mugs on site and then you also have souvenirs...I'm sure Mousekeeping will at least throw you a couple of bottles of Dawn or whatever dishwashing liquid they use. Might be the best compromise.

And of course there's always the possibility that, despite what the cast member told me, the front desk will throw you some china plates anyway. Just make sure you catch them.

She is flying in from the UK for two to three weeks.She doesn't want to use that many paper plates, brings her own silverware. I think a few plates and bowls even if not recycled or adopted will save more of the planet than 3 weeks of paper garbage.
And DVC studios mousekeeping can stick to the rules and charge you outrageous fees for "extra" supplies.

You would be surprised. I'm pretty sure that WDW composts/recycles as much of their paper waste as possible, so in a few weeks/months everything is as it was beyond some carbon emissions to produce/transport the paper goods. The china/plastic plate won't breakdown and sits in the landfill pretty much for ever.

Since paper cups don't need washing, the ceramic is a clear water winner.

As much as I hate using single use goods myself, reusable goods are only beneficial in the long run when repeatedly used.
