I wouldn't say it's fun, but it can definitely be interesting. The closest I got was the jury selection process, and it was kind of a game to me to figure out which ones the lawyers and judge would want to keep on the panel. The case was a gang murder, and it was actually rather disconcerting to hear so many people in the jury pool were victims of crime.

I'm a nerd. Interesting = fun for me. But I'm one of those people that goes to the courthouse just to watch. I know...there's something wrong with me. lol

Of the 5 or so times I've been called over the years, I was chosen once.
It was a DWI/DUI case.
And, although I won't go into details, it definitely wasn't your typical case of that type. Odd it was.
Anyway, after 3 days we ended up convicting. First offense. He got 30 days in the pokey, 5 years probation, and community service.
When it was all wrapped up, I, by happenstance, ended up riding down in the elevator with the defendants attorney. A conversation ensued when we got out on the street going to our cars.
The first thing I asked him was how the hell did I even get chosen as a juror in the first place, as I have a BIL and a good friend that are cops, plus I had a DWI myself back in '85...?!
He told me it was a fluke...the lady they had originally chosen instead of me was overheard out in the hallway during a break yammering to someone on her phone about the case and was dismissed and fined for contempt of court. Next in line was...Lucky me.
My next question...what did he think of our verdict? He said "Spot on. He'd been drinkin' all day."
It was such an eye opening and candid moment, and I will never forget it.
As far as it bein' fun, per se, not so much. Although it was interesting and a learning experience, it's pretty much a one and done for me. ;)

See, you tell that story and I want to be there! But a large part of my job has to do with public speaking and debate. So listening to people construct arguments and ask questions makes me excited. I'm a strange strange beast.

Oh, I agree that it's all about the ratings - I don't find his concern to be genuine either. It just seems like he at least brings common sense into the scenario, where these people were simply flailing about and wondering why their business was going under.

I always think it's funny on shows like that that they call someone in to help but then get upset when the person points out that there are problems. Then the owner acts like they have the perfect business and can't understand why it's failing. But I don't think we have enough directness in our culture. We are always worried about being polite, even it if it means enabling someone to fail. I find people who say it like it is to be refreshing.

Happy pot luck Friday. Yep today's the day all the guys my dh works with have to bring in a healthier version of whatever they bring in and they have to make it themselves. My dh made his coleslaw last night and he only bothered me 10 or 12 times about how to do it.:cautious: It would have been faster and easier just to have done it myself:banghead::banghead::banghead: I'm armed with antacid, pepto, and other assorted tummy meds. LOL BTW my dining room is a disaster:eek::eek::eek::eek: Have a great day and has anybody heard from @MR FERRET?

I am curious. How does one make a healthy coleslaw. Is it just that it's a vinegar sauce as opposed to a mayo one?

Good Friday morning to you all. Does anyone have any big weekend plans? I'm going to finish up Santa's shopping this afternoon when I'm done at the office. Then we are all going to go to a craft show this evening. Looking forward to it. Tomorrow should be a more relaxed day. One of the kids has a birthday party to attend but that's about it. Might go to the Farmer's Market in the morning and then just hang out.

TGIF!

And you'd feel safer if they werent exposed?
some of the thing that Gordon Ramsay exposed in the restaurants he "helped" was terrifying.

Not what I said. I don't believe graphically exposing things on TV with hype that he found helps the restaurant recover. Supposibly the goal of the show and his expertise. It is more about rating for his show over doing what is best for turning the restaurant around for the better.

I try real hard not to think about what happens in restaurant kitchens. The WDW inspection reports use to be posted online for restaurant inspections. I stopped reading them.

You'd be hard pressed to find a television show that doesn't do what it does to get ratings, though. We all have different tastes when it comes to entertainment. That's why there's such a variety of shows.

Yes that's the show

One of his Good Eats on turkey changed completely how I do Thanksgiving. He investigated all these different ways to cook a turkey and then said that the one he found was best was to make the tin foil hat for the turkey and crank the oven up to 500 for the first 1/2 hour. No basting, etc. I have done it exactly his way ever since and it really does make a beautiful, moist, tasty bird.

I like unwrapped on the Cooking Channel. I loved going into different factories and learning how they made various popular foods.

I'm the odd person who wants jury duty. I have never been called. I'd probably regret it if it were to happen but I think it kind of sounds fun.
I wanted to do it also. But, when they finally called me, I lost some of my hearing.
I was sitting in a Doc's room waiting on my appointment, he was 1 1/2 hours late. They kept thanking me for being patient. :cautious: Then the Doc was crabby, had no interest in listening as he was irritated by hearing anything but his own voice.
He should have been glad that you waited. I had a very crabby urologist. I got rid of him in short order.
