Now that's what I call an informed response! Thank you. I could probably deal with a year, a lot better than only 6 months or so. (For me), if all spices were only 6 months, I don't think I'd have even 5 spices in the cabinet, that I'd bother to buy--knowing I'd only be throwing out my money.

I find too if you just taste it before using it, you will be able to tell if it still has its flavour.

Interesting observation you made. My thought is that since the spices in the store displays are in sealed containers, I would assume they'd be fine, until you actually pull off the seal. That's when they'd (in time) start to lose their potency. Any spices I have at home are kept in a dark cabinet, so at least I don't have to deal with sunlight wrecking them! ;)

Again, old spices aren't going to hurt you. If you want to use them, you can. It's just that they lose potency as they age. So, herbs you get and chop up yourself will be the freshest (although you need to use more than dried) and newly dried would be the next and then bottled by age.

Had a great time with DD on our roadtrip. Lots of amazing fall fix'n food, hot ciders, pumpkin cheese cakes. One thing more yummy than the next. We went to a rural craft fair, these folk are very talented and unlike here the crafts are affordable. My DD collected some more decorations for Thanksgiving and Christmas for her place, one cuter than the next.

Plus we had a meal at Cracker Barrel. Their braised pot roast was beyond amazing. Could just cut with a fork, gravy luscious. While it came with their famous carrots and mashed potatoes we both ordered the hash brown casserole 'cause how can one go to Cracker Barrel without hash brown casserole???? :geek:

Not Disney but a great trip. Just love traveling with my kids.

OMG...I love Cracker Barrell! We don't have those here so we are so excited when we come across them in the States.

Glad you had a good road trip. How fun!

Sympathy like for your DD.
So very sorry she has to go through that on a regular basis. Hopefully there will be a medical discovery to help soon.
Prayers.

I remember bein' next to a guy in the ER once who was tryin' to pass a kidney stone. He was cursing like 10 sailors, and screaming for morphine.
When they finally got him good and medicated he was walkin' around the ER apologizing to all of us.

I don't think you've mentioned that you were a premie before. How much did you weigh?
Our DS, now 23, was 1 lb. 4oz. When he was born. 4.5 mos. in the NICU.
The only child born smaller than him while he was there was a 1 lb. 2 oz. girl.
They both survived with minimal problems, considering.
We didn't find out 'til 2 weeks after he was born that they didn't even think he would come close to surviving. We were told light-skinned males have the worst rate of survival in such cases.
But, we were also told he would never make it to birth, and die in utero as well.
Doctors...! :p ;) :)
I was just at 3 pounds, at that time 1948 , it was considered very small. I was large in my length. I stayed in the hospital for six weeks.... no eye protection, at that time, so , now I have macular degeneration. I'm so glad that babies, today have the knowledge of past medicine. It wasn't critical to cover babies eyes, today we know better. I'm so glad that medicine is advancing. Mom was also a premie, and she had glaucoma , she had little vision when she passed. I'm glad I live in Colorado, a very good medicine for glaucoma is marihuana. I don't have this.....but I'm glad it's out there for those who need it. Sadly, Mom thought it was evil and wouldn't take it.

My friend in Florida has the same thing...she said it's nearly impossible to find a decent home there that does NOT belong to an HOA. And she had major problems with theirs...like, they are not allowed to have their trash can visible from the street, and she doesn't, but one time she was cleaning out her garage, which is where she keeps the trash can, so she had it out just for a couple of hours and someone happened to see it and they fined her. And then they aren't allowed to have raised flower beds and she had put something in to drain rainfall because her house has a slope in the front, so water pooled there, and they made her take it all out and just put in the grass which doesn't grow in Florida, so it has bare patches and brown patches everywhere and looks terrible, but they won't let her put in prettier things that will actually grow. It was insane. And they didn't follow procedure...like, they are supposed to give you 3 written warnings before turning it over to the lawyers for non-compliance, but she got only one letter, and then got the letter from the lawyers that she had to pay so much for every day that she didn't comply. But then she got a 2nd notice that was dated the day AFTER the letter from the lawyers. So she wasn't even supposed to have been in non-compliance yet and she ended up having to pay hundreds of dollars for their lawyers for sending the letter that she wasn't even supposed to get. I'm pretty sure it's illegal, but she'd have to go to court to call them on it, and that would cost even more than just paying the dang fines in the first place. I'm convinced HOAs are evil.
It seems to be an annoying way of life. I so want to move, I'm so tired of living under a bubble. Hubby and I have this conversation every year. We would lose tons of money, so we try to stay under the radar. What a life!

Actually, I've never seen the movies or read the books either. (As usual, I'm behind the times! ;) ) And not only that, I never got around to getting my ears pierced! ) :p
I got mine pierced, and was allergic to gold and sterling silver. I would up with very hard ears, and couldn't wear earrings, years later without the holes bleeding. You didn't miss a thing. Except a lot of trouble!:in pain::in pain::in pain:
