For myself, it's more about coming up with different dishes to cook, rather than the ease of cooking. I don't think cooking per se is difficult, but it can be time-consuming and takes effort, and after working all day, coming home to do more work just isn't appealing!

I do understand. We both work full time and it is very tempting to reach for the prepackaged or takeout...especially when you are exhausted or under the weather.

Years ago, I would do this all the time. But now, I plan and buy everything on Sundays when I do have energy and choose quick and easy meals for the weeknights. When I have everything in the house, I am less likely to waste it. That and I often will put something in the slow cooker in the morning before work or get things ready for the oven the night before. And I have come to realize that most times it actually takes less time and energy to cook a real meal than go for takeout or prepackaged. And it just feels so much better.

It's a constant struggle though. A lot of my life seems to revolve around food.

That is my downfall, the planning. If I did that, then I'm sure I'd be cooking more often! :)

Good for you for realizing it! I wish my dad would. He still thinks he's a fantastic driver and even in his prime I thought he was scary. He has a tendency to take both hands off the wheel and eyes off the road to rummage in the seat beside him to find something. And when I was there 2 summers ago, I went with him everywhere and he went 45 miles an hour on the interstate....speed limit 75, and he viewed it as being cautious because "his reflexes aren't what they used to be", but we could have so easily been rear-ended if someone didn't notice how slowly he was driving. And then one night, we were pulling out of a parking lot and he didn't notice the median on the street and actually turned into oncoming traffic and had to back out of the lane and go around the median to get into the right one. If there had been a cop anywhere near, I think he might have lost his license.
I'm so sorry, maybe I recognized it , as I was much younger, when I knew it was time to give it up. Hubby may have that problem in the future, he's a very good driver, and has excellent reaction time. But, he is not going to give it up easily. I hope those cars that drive themselves come along sooner, rather than later!;););):rolleyes:

Sympathy like but that might be your best bet. ADRs are becoming a major pain the tushie
All the pre planning is a major pain in the tushie. Gee's I just want to go. I wish Disney had kept up with the crowds, and quit putting too many people in the parks. Makes everything hard, and so frustrating. DD does the summer planning, we don't plan. But, I here how long she is on the phone trying to get ADR'S. Me, I'm going to fast food as it's so much easier.

Thanks! This is the worst time of year for me stress-wise. Over here, Christmas is strictly a religious holiday and instead, kids get presents from Sinterklaas, (St. Nicholas...so same deal, but not associated with Christmas) and it's celebrated from about mid-november to December 5th, which is the night the kids get their presents. They get candy and stocking-stuffer type gifts throughout the 3 week period, and it's a big deal at school. And DS's birthday is just before the gift night, and mine is less than a week after DS's and my nephew's is a week after mine, and then we celebrate Christmas. So this is a busy time, and now we have 3 performances in December for choir, and we're doing a Christmas market at school for which I'm supposed to help organize a children's choir, and a treat table. So it might be a couple of months before things slow down.
I'm exhausted , just listening to your list of things to do!;);)

Much of it has to do with the quality of the rice for me. It is perfect every time, never sticks to the pot, etc. I find rice in the pot to be watery or mushy or hard. And you have to really watch it to get it right. And it is very tricky to cook short or medium grain rice well in a pot.

It is also very easy and fast. (No measuring or spilling over.)

You can also set it and forget it, much like the crockpot so it frees up time. While supper cooks, I do other things.

It keeps rice warm and ready to eat for hours. This works well if your family isn't eating at the same time. Nothing grosser than reheated rice.

It is also how I steam my veggies, as many rice cookers come with a steamer insert. (And you can do this at the same time that you cook rice.)

It is also very safe so that my children can cook without my direct supervision.

So, I guess I have a lot of reasons. Lol But then again, we eat a lot of rice and never convenience packages like instant or microwaveable. If you only cook real rice occasionally, it is probably not worth it to you.
I need a steamer, for veggies. Not for rice, to high in carbs. for hubby and I.

I thought some of you might like this. Old original games from the SNES to the Atari are all on here. It's a great time killer, and maybe a huge nostalgia high if you played some of these back in the day. I love video games and their history, so I was really excited when I found this.

Oh goody! Another excuse not to do work! :p
