How can you afford it?!!!

I just looked over the individual prices on the website and now I am in shock. How can anyone, especially people with children, afford to go? I was looking at the Beach Club for next year because I have been wanting to stay at this resort but there is no way I will pay that much a night. That's just crazy! Sorry Disney, but unless you can lure me in with a great PIN code or some other offer there will be a few less guests at Disney World this year.

Discounted gift cards to pay off food, stay off sight part of the trip, find discounted tickets. My dh says if there's a deal I can find it LOL We also drive as we are considered 4 adults even with one night each way at a hotel we still save a couple of hundred dollars.

When I went in February and stayed at the Beach Club for a party of 3 adults and 1 child it cost about $5k for 7 days. I used my annual bonus and a great promo code I got from Disney. Afterwards, wifey agreed that we will not do this again for a long, long time.

I wanted to stay at Pop Century because it's the newest and (IMO) cleanest value and I would have been happy with it. Wifey wanted Beach Club and wifey always seems to get what she wants. I loved the Beach Club, but I think I would have loved $2k in my pocket more.

Staying at my favorite place, the All-Star Sports Surfs Up Hotel, is cheaper then the trips I took to California, DC, and Boston these past couple of years. I use the standard Disney discount code available to anyone and during the week the rooms are just under $100 a night. If you need to have a deluxe resort for cheap then look at Bonnet Creek resorts or check out special rates at the Swan and Dolphin.

- Drive down in company car (we are cleared for personal use and they pay all gas, personal and business - we just pay taxes on it all every year).

- Rent a pool home with another family (friends or relatives).

-Purchase tickets under the military discount.

- (split cost of groceries) Eat large breakfast at the house, and split counterservice lunches (order a few things and share). Then we do one dinner a day either at park or at home.

We have two sons, we don't drive expensive cars, we don't live in new houses(I LOVE my 85yr old Tudor cottage), we take one vacation a year, if that and since it is something we love, we make time and money work for us. Early May(after spring break), late October when prices are lower and crowds are lower and we look for discounts. We use the bonus from my husband's job(usually about $5k) and taxes. We are older and so are our kids so that probably helps. We are staying at POR in May and Yacht in October. My older son pays his share(he's 26) and with both of those resorts before any discounts come out, we are under $3800 and $5800 so if a discount comes out that is just gravy. And those trips are for 4 of us in May and 5 in October.

Don't stay at a deluxe resort? Disney offers different classes of resorts to appeal to those who can afford different things. Or simply go less often? For many people a trip to WDW is a once in a lifetime, or once in a decade type trip. It may not be the fun option, but going to WDW (or any vacation for that matter) isn't worth going into debt over.

We go in the off season and don't go crazy with the dinning reservations or hotel choice. I also found GREAT flight deals for October. How can you say no to Southwest $62 non stop flights? I think of vacation planning as a game and the goal is to always get the best for the money spent. We did a Moderate this fall with the discount. We would have done a value but are planning to spend time at the resort for two days so felt like it was worth it to stay at a moderate. I think POP is always a great value resort but wanted something a little different this time. I will probably never stay at Beach Club and I won't complain about it. Disney is money worth spending because there is something for everyone! All ages, genders, and incomes. If you are looking to spend less then book a value. You get airport transfer for free and a clean hotel room. We are also going to use our amazon prime to get bottled waters and snacks delivered to the resort to save a few bucks.

Exactly! It is as much as a game as setting a touring plan to shorten your time standing in lines. LOL My husband always jokes that I can "save him into the hole" because I excel at finding deals, savings, cheaper flights, etc. Like when I used to do school clothes shopping at Mervyns and come home saving as much or more than I spent. LOL

We both work. We save up like crazy.

We don't put much money into the house. I told my husband that if I can live in a dorm for four years, I can live here without "upgrades". I would rather spend my money at WDW.

Besides, I'm sure we're not the only ones who use a brick to keep the fridge door closed, right? :p C'mon, fridge or flights! Woo-hoo!

YOLO! I can't take my fridge with me, but I will have my memories!

I enjoy my trip more if I think I paid less for it then everyone else lol.
