Have you ever taken the cog railroad to the top of Pikes Peak. I always wanted too, but, ended up driving up there instead. That was worth it due to the shear number of panicking females in the car on the way back down. I probably didn't help it much by occasionally yelling out... "OMG, the brakes have stopped working." I'm a fun guy to be around.:angelic:;):joyfull:

This reminds me of the cog railroad up Mt. Washington (New Hampshire, for those unfamiliar).

Since you were a Vermont boy, did you ever get over there? I love it; ridden it maybe 8 times through the years. The only disappointment I have now concerns the newer diesel locomotives (starting in 2008) that replaced the old coal-burning steam locomotives. They started doing that to lower emissions, etc., although they were grandfathered in (exempted) from NH's state air pollution control law, because the operation had been in effect well before 1973. (The cog railroad was actually built in 1869.) It's still a great ride to the top, but I do miss the billowing smoke, smell of the coal, etc., against the backdrop of the mountains and sky. Glad I experienced the cog railway when it was in it's original glory.

It happened at both the concerts for us this year, my nephew's concert. :brb:'s with phones blocking everybody else's view seem to be everywhere these days. The ones doing it with selfie stix are the worst from what I've heard.

What in the world happened to people being discrete and respectful? These are supposed to be ADULTS and should be setting set a good example--such as, not being human blockades!!

The fact that this type of obnoxious incident has happened at two of your schools (and I assume that you and @MouseDreaming don't live in the same state, same neighborhood, with the same schools), indicates an overall downward trend in propriety. Sad, really . . .

I wear prescription lenses, so I have no choice but to bring my relatively expensive pair of sunglasses to Disney. I tried contacts, but even then when I wear regular sunglasses, it does something weird to my vision and I get dizzy. I almost lost them in the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon, but luckily found them. I suppose they would've washed ashore eventually, but probably not in a wearable state.

I can't wear contacts anymore, but I did wear them for many years. So a few years ago when I switched over to eyeglasses, I realized I'd have a problem if I wanted to go swimming. Hence, I looked up on the internet to see if there were any prescription goggles (for distance) that you could buy in a generic sense. (I knew they made prescription swim goggles, but they were expensive.) Voila. There are a few companies out there that make generic prescription swim goggles!!

As long as you know your prescription, you can get vision goggles that are "close" to that--certainly enough to get you through a few hours at Blizzard Beach, for example. Let's say your prescription is 5.1 in both eyes. The closest generics would come in 5.0 and maybe 5.5 (again these are just estimates and I haven't bought any for about 4 years now). So I just chose the one closest to my prescription.

Now, I can go to the water parks and wear them (I also got the mirror tinted ones for the really strong, bright Florida sun) and the strap can be tightly adjusted, so I don't worry about losing them. (Just be sure to add a drop or two of water, from time to time, on the inside of the lens to keep them from fogging up--similar to a ski mask, for example.)

If you're interested, I pasted a link below to Amazon.com, under "myopia goggles". (Myopia--again, I'm near-sighted, so that's why I picked this one as an example for you.)

Sympathy like.

It was kind of an odd coincidence, 'cause I recently showed our kiddos how much of everything of theirs I've saved from over all these years.
They've always known I was a very attentive dad, but, they just didn't know I'd saved so much from their childhood.
Yep, some of us dads can be hard as as stone, but we're still human...most of the time. ;)

Awwww . . . what a wonderful dad!

Oh probably. She hasn't been on tere much so far, though. Although my aunt and cousin both PM'ed me freaking out. Aunt said, "Is nothing sacred anymore!" (I told her no more complaining about her mother on Facebook...let's hope Grandma NEVER goes through her old posts), cousin was worried that it wasn't actually Grandma and was our nieces' crazy mother (since crazy mom is in rehab right now and Grandma mentioned to me on more than one ocassion, most recently last week, that she wanted Facebook, yes, it is actually her). Cousin-in-law is not sure whether to be relieved or insulted that she didn't get a request.

I have fakebook but rarely go on it. It creates drama you don't need. Not to mention those people who post every single thing going on in their lives.

@FutureCEO , don't know if you've been following this story recently, but I have. Found it fascinating. Apparently, they have finally determined what caused the blast on the beach! (From NBC News, below . . .)

That's still mysterious. It makes for a good book.

Like back when my dad was a policeman, a couple supposedly jumped off the Newport Bridge (tall bridge). Anyway, so the story goes...well, it will be better if I just send you the link.

Nope, absolutely fine. I just DO NOT like Illuminations. No apologies. Just as some have said previously they don't like PPF where I do. Different strokes.

I have a love/hate relationship with Illuminations. I really like the version from when I was a kid going in the late 80's-90's. I think the musical score was better with the folk music for the countries, and when Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue would come on and America would me lit up in red, white, and blue it always gave me chills. The current Illuminations has a decent start with all the fire but then slows down a lot. And the globe with the tv pictures that are barely visible (and I have near perfect vision) just really annoys me. I did watch it when I did my March solo trip and I enjoyed the show more than I remembered but I can take it or leave it.

This is a holiday I could definitely get behind! I guess I'm a little late to the party, as I see it was yesterday. :( I guess I can celebrate late, better late than never right!:)

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt when possible, especially since my behavior is far from perfect and I've had a number of less stellar moments in my life. When I tell friends how I have an awful temper, they find it hard to believe. Mostly only immediate family have experienced my wrath, which usually only appears when I feel like I've been treated unfairly without reason. I can actually be pretty scary at times. Definitely a characteristic I need to be mindful of.
I think most have two sides of the same coin.
