Gotta hand it to you--the voice of reason about this looney craze for 80% and 90% chocolate bars. They're just not sweet enough, and that kills all the fun. "Foodies" are ruining all the good stuff for us!

I'm a foodie. Almost thirty years in the restaurant business will do that.

So remember how I sprained my left ankle and only recovered fully about 3 months ago? Well, I stepped off a curb today and sprained my right ankle. Went completely down. At least it hasn't doubled in size like last time. But still, I cannot win

Were both at that cold is cold. 25, feels like 15, low of 22. Problem is DH has not pulled the auxilary A/C units, my room is so freak'n cold. Supposed to get measurable snow on Saturday and Sunday. Joy Joy

The tollway here is building a new tollway in N. IL. They are trying to get some items off the bucketlist before the ground is solid. They have priorities due to some freak'n law over the mega haul trucks. Problem is the loads of salt are coming off the barges and there are not any trucks to haul the salt up to anywhere North. This is going to be a game changer.

Oh my. Sympathy "like" for the salt situation.
They spread sand on the roads down here when we have any kind of ice/snow issues.
Then, there was the time we had the three snows in the winter of '85, and pop was actually able to use the chains that came with his old truck that was bought when we lived in NoCal. He had a bit of fun playin' tow truck.

Right now, here in Ontario, trade school/apprenticeship is the way to go.
Plumbers, electricians, bricklayers, auto mechanics, roofers, welders .... Not too many of them on the dole right now.

Teachers, however, are waiting seven, eight years to get a permanent full time position with a school board. The only exceptions being those with special skills: fully (truly) bilingual, musical or artistic majors, or men willing to work in the primary grades.

Unfortunately trade schools or any trades are not pushed in high school. At least where I live. And it is a shame because as the baby boomers retire, and they will, I think there is going to be a problem. I have 2 twin nephews that can't afford college but one is going into marketing and the other counseling. I have a cousin who went into electrical apprenticeship and now graduated ( owing nothing, electrical company paid all education expenses) is bringing in veryyyy good money. Trades is not just plumbing, electrical. It could be ship building to maintenance on commercial aircrafts. So many possibilities.

I work for a new home builder. But for the illegal Portuguese bricklayers, 3/4 of the homes currently under construction in the GTA would remain brick/stone free. Most of these guys are in their 50's and 60's. Lots of opportunity for masons in the next decade.

All of our itinerant farm workers have gone home for the season, but that's another field (no pun intended) that is begging for workers.

Ha! Mine is the white load of laundry. I think I have four loads over a month still sitting in baskets at the end of the hall. I fold everything else.

That is pretty different than the US, or at least in my area and it does differ in Union states verse Non-Union states. Plumbers, electricians, bricklayers are Union jobs and they only let so many apprenticeships per year,
mechanics are trade school and roofers are either Union or a dime a dozen often with labor from south of the boarder, welders go both ways here depending on what type of welding you are speaking to. Iron workers that weld are Union, for a tool and die shop they generally not unless they are in something like the Auto Industry.
There is not a shortage of Union Tradesman in our region.

Well.. It depends your point of view.
Mexico is very violent currently due of government abuse.

Then...The violence is usually very localized.. Michoacan for example (a state) is usually the most violent one.
Where I live things are mostly calm.

but one thing is sure.. Narcs defend their turf.. they dont target general people or tourists.

You can speak to travel and tourism in Mexico better than I can that is for sure. I look at it only from the amount of travel bans and warnings we have had in this century. From getting in cabs, going outside resort areas etc to Disney this century pulling out of some ports in Mexico a couple years ago. I wonder if this plays into that decision not to invest billions of dollars to build theme parks in Mexico? That and how many new guests would be generated vs just displaced from WDW or DL where they normally head.

See we have this too in the construction trades and home building that are non Union workers. We in this area have Polish and other eastern block that come over on tourist visas and work for 4 months, go home for a while and return, paid cash by builders. Roofers are generally workers from Mexico as are a good chunk of our landscapers. We see the pattern cause the kids are yanked in and out of our school systems. Here Aug-Dec and Return in March or April. Freak'n messes with our test scores for No Child Left Behind.

I want to be a member of your family. The past few years my presents have been under $25 total. Last year my mom sent me a $6 contact kit but I don't have anyone else that gives me presents. (I think this is another reason I like Halloween a little more.) My daughter still is clinging to the belief in Santa Claus so I buy myself a few things and mix them in with all her presents. Kudos to you for spreading the love amongst your family.
