They use the same Yeti toys on both coasts for the most part. Makes no sense since one is white and the other is brown.

It's simple...He's out in the blinding snow which covers him over snowy white...The Mickey Yeti train pullback toy looks more like the Everest Yeti than the Matterhorn Yeti..

It was to Commemorate Walt Disney 100th Birthday with Interactive Kiosks It was never intended to be a Pin Store.
Here's the explanation from Wikipedia..
It had the kiosks where the golden spiral is now but the rest of it has been a merchandise location since day one. Honestly wish that the kiosks had been kept in all of the parks. They were pretty cool and informative.
