We had to take away Mom's car when she drove to my brother's and had no idea how she had got there. She had also had 2 accidents before that. Neither one resulted in serious injury, but could have been much worse if not for the skills of the other drivers involved. The first one was a matter of the sun being in her eyes, so she made a left turn into the hospital driveway where she volunteered and was broadsided by a huge sand truck. The truck driver did all he could but the impact spun her car several times across a very busy road. Fortunately she didn't hit anything else.
The second time she just pulled out onto a road without looking and was hit by another car. She could have killed someone or been killed herself either time, so we knew it was time to yank her licence.

Wow. She's very lucky she walked away from those.

Speaking of which... has anyone else seen that commercial for the car with all the electronic devices that practically drive the car for you. I don't, off the top of my head, remember what type care it was (Probably a Nissan Altima). Anyway, if you see it listen to the thought comments of the driver and tell me that the dude isn't in urgent need of being yanked out from behind the wheel.

As a side note, is it just my tinfoil hat or does the introduction of all this "car stops itself and other stuff" getting us to the point of no longer actually needing to drive. They call it adventure in driving in the commercial. I call it, "other then tune the radio, what am I supposed to do".

She really was. When the first one happened I had just had coffee with her in the morning before she left. We were vacationing down there and had planned to leave for home that night. My brother called me to tell me she had been in an accident and that he was picking me up on the way to the hospital. When we ever saw her car and the truck that hit her at the hospital driveway, we braced ourselves for the probability of just identifying the body. We walked in and she was sitting up on a gurney like nothing had happened. She did have swelling in her brain after that, but when we first saw her she was absolutely fine, except for some bruising from the seatbelt and airbag.

(edit, and for the record, I've thought at least, the bare minimum, 34 of these thoughts while walking through BB&B...I had a gift card, I never shop there, and since I finally spent that gift card, I will never shop there again)

My Mom had the dubious honor of having to confiscate the car keys from her Dad. Turns out he went on a car ride with her sister and they got stuck at a stoplight in heavy traffic. He told her not to worry because he knew a shortcut. When the light turned green he turned into a golf course parking lot and then proceeded to drive on the cart path along the back of the entire course and out through the maintenance parking lot on the other side. My Aunt said the whole time he was honking the horn and people were scattering and yelling – she said it reminded her of an episode of Mr. Magoo. The thing my Mon and my Aunt didn’t pick up on was that he said he knew a shortcut – which means that he had done that in the past! Thank goodness he didn’t take out any golfers along the way…

I had a similar response when wandering through the store (why do they pile merchandise all the way up to the ceiling?! its so overwhelming. is that the point?) trying desperately to spend that gift card someone gave me for xmas last year. Everything I touched was either "OMG EXPENSIVE" or fell apart in my hand, therefore, "OMG CHEAP". :( It was a nightmare. And I must have gone the day that every other woman on the planet also had a gift card and were in a similar type of desperation to spend it, because we were ALL walking around, bumping into each other, blank faced and confused, like a bunch of zombies.

I think I ended up getting a rug and bending it in half to shove it into the car. I celebrated the victory with ice cream.

Needed to shift some meetings around so the conference room could be empty to show the soccer game.

Ahhh! Welcome back! I was wondering what was going on.
