CBR vs POR w/3 kids? Memorial weekend?

So we have a very small opportunity to go to disney before our original planned date. We want to take it but it's during Memorial Day weekend (not my choice) and everything is booked. The two places we have looked at are carribean beach resort and port orleans riverfront. The difference is $15 but the rooms are the same size. At CBR the room is the standard room but at por it's the royal room. Can anyone who has stayed at both tell me which one would be best suited for a family of 5 with kids age 10,4 & 3.?

Also in an effort to not make a separate post, can anyone share you experience with the crowds and lines in Memorial Day weekend?

CBR has double beds but POR has queens. That said, the only rooms at POR that accommodate a family of 5 are the bayou rooms that have a pull down trundle (the royal rooms sleep 4). CBR also sleeps 4, but they may allow a rollaway bed for an extra charge.

Memorial Day weekend will be VERY crowded, especially with the MK special 24 hour event.

Because the crowds will probably be insane at least in MK (which is crazy any weekend and certainly any 3-day weekend) and DHS (due to Star Ward weekends), you might want to think about which resort you'd most want to spend some time exploring, enjoying the amenities, etc. Andas Tuvalu brought up, double beds in Caribbean, not queen sized. I'd choose Riverside in a heartbeat.

I should add the toddlers will most likely be in travel cribs. They don't need beds.
Disney considers any child 3 and older as a room occupant (even if they sleep in a portacrib or sleeping bag) and may not allow you to all stay in a room which has the maximum occupancy as 4. Just wanted to give you a head's up.

Except, as you mentioned, the trundle bed rooms in the bayou section. In fact, Riverside might be the only available option in a moderate, especially for that time frame.

That's why I was trying to warn the OP. Having 3 children myself, bayou rooms at POR were our only option at a moderate resort if we all stayed in the same room.

Ok everything in our budget is officially sold out if they won't allow 5 people in the 4 max ones. That's so disappointing. Gonna have to stay of sight :(

You did check Riverside? They're booked solid, too? I'm looking at Travelocity for the three day weekend, and they have Riverside rooms that sleep 2 adults and 3 children, no mention of one of those kids needing to be under 3 in a crib.

What are the chances of something opening up from here till then? Anybody ever get last minute deals?

Well this close out, even if you get a room onsite I doubt it will be a "deal" you know what I mean? It's a popular place at a popular time, if someone cancels the room's probably gonna get snapped up regardless. You may get a room, but not at any sort of crazy discount.

I know it is a bit more expensive, but have you looked at either the All Stars or AoA for a family suite? AoA is newer, but the ones at the All Stars are significantly cheaper. You could try and make up some of the extra money spent by cooking in the kitchenette.

I was just told to check back by Sunday because that's when people usually start canceling due to their 5 day before policy. So hopefully by the end of this week I might find something.

Thanks for the travelocity. It's still a bit more than the disney site price. I'm a florida resident so the discount is pretty decent.

Sorry, if you had ever written that you were a FL resident and got better prices as a result, I missed it.

I didn't mention it. Probably should have. Would have explained why I haven't taken any of the offers on other websites. The price is about half or $100 less then any travel site.

Dag nabbit disney! The POR had a room open up. "Yay!" I thought, but no, they seem to be so sure to sell it at the regular price that they aren't even letting me buy it at the Florida resident rate. It's $60 A night difference :( Disney's a big meanie
