Why No Monorail Stop at the World Showcase?

Big platform is there to disperse crowd flow.

When it was designed it was assumed most if not all guests would disembark and head to the ticket windows. They didn't want a tidal wave of guests hitting the windows all at once so decided to spread them out by making them walk further and naturally manage themselves.
I'm confused, what about this article then? http://micechat.com/7930-disney-world-parks-monorails/

You're probably referring to the old tram station loop?

The nearest station would be between the Swan and the Boardwalk.
Was that loop ever used? in all your archives, do you have any photos or film of the International Gateway in action for anything more than it currently is? I've often wondered about that big turnaround out there.

It was used and I do somewhere.

The station cover structure was only demoed fairly recently.

Exactly! They should have never stopped the double decker bus.
They probably wouldn't have if people had been smart enough to not step in front of them while they were moving. A lot of the things that were stopped was due to two reasons. One was cost and two was safety. When people were irresponsible (nice way of saying stupid) and the costs to operate were high, it left the scene. Lawsuits are not wanted especially if they are losing money doing it to begin with. In Walt's time it big picture was what was looked at. If the park made money all was good. Then, over time, everything became departmentalized and each had its own profit incentive. That's when the axe started to fall on a lot of things and continues to this day.

As things go, it would probably be a fairly achievable price to add monorail service around the Boardwalk area to Epcot & DHS. Perhaps stops like:
- Future world
- Yacht/Beach
- Dolphin
- DHS
- Boardwalk
- International gateway
Track would only be about 4-5 miles.

I know it won't happen, but it's fun to doodle & daydream :)

My two cents...the EPCOT monorail is cool as/is....some type of in-EPCOT transportation would be welcome if done correctly....all 4 theme parks should have monorail access

the monorail was never intended as in park transit.

Transportation around World Showcase would provide more respite than transportation to WorldShowcase.
agreed! there use to be the double decker bus, but i'm sure safety became and isse..
do they still have the boats? that was one way to get around world showcase. though not building to building.
Why doesn't the monorail go to Animal Kingdom or DHS is what I want to know?
expense, some type of fixed transportation links should be built, but not a monorail at least not of the current technology.

something more of the people mover in vegas variety, prehaps, though i wouldn't do that either.

in our fantasy dream world I'd build a personal rapid transit system, this could be built to initially connect park to park to dd, and then over time expand the system to connect directly to hotels, allowing speedy one seat transit.
If they ever did a monorail expansion, I could envision a station just outside the international gateway. It almost seems like it was built with that in mind.
thats possible, but only if its going somewhere else too like dd or somewhere, as it would be bad to build a short like with a stub end.

and as mentioned, i wouldn't expand the current system.. i would build a new system using updated technology. i know it wouldn't be compatible, but the current system is more for looks than real true transit. and is old tech as far as todays standards go along with the issues with the switches, etc.

they could have something in mind though now that they are spending money on automation, but that could be simply in response to the death that happened to ensure no further accidents and to increase capacity, as i'm sure an automated system has a capacity to run more trains than a manual system

Wow, how cool that was. It's actually more quaint on the boardwalk without the trams, but I think you can walk all the way to the Swan/Dolphin faster than the Friendships run that route from the International Gateway.
they do have teh boats from those hotels, so a tram might be overkill.

to connect all the parks i would build a centralized parking structure, with personal rapid transit connections to all 4 parks and dd

this would be a good place for park hopper guests to park, as such a permium could be charged for use of this garage area, and would lessen the load on parking at each park and at dd. along with the traffic generated by people driving park to park when they dont want disney transport to waste an hour and a half of their day sometimes, and to have to back track if they wish to start the day at one park and finish at another park.

possible location for centralized parking

prt system that i think would be best each vehicle holds 4-6, the vehicles are smaller, thus requireing a cheaper guidway that could be built a combination of ground level above ground, some areas could even be tunnel under vehicle entranceways etc as the vehicles are relatively small.. thus allowing the system to eventually connnnect all major parks and major resorts.. along with centralized premum parking discussed above

this is currently used at heathrow airport

Vectus Intelligent Transport system being built in south korea, this system allows for differnt sized vehicles.. initially i thought this was the way to go.. but trying to group people by destination like happens at the current bus stops would require much larger prt stations than simply organizing people my party.
