1 Year Wedding Anniversary Trip Advice - May 2015

Hey guys, my fiancee and I were originally planning to take a 10 day trip to Disneyland this year for our honeymoon but unfortunately, her job only permits a week of vacation at a time so we've opted to return to Disney World for a week. We've already decided to visit Disneyland for our anniversary next year around Memorial Day weekend in order to capitalize on the long weekend in order to do a 10 day stay.

My father and I previously went for our first time in 2012 in late June for the opening of Carsland and had a ball. I was surprised at the low crowds which is apparently common being very much a locals park. I was just curious if late May-Early June is any different as far as crowds? Any additional advice would be most appreciated :) We definitely plan to stay at the Grand California too.

You certainly lucked out with low crowds. Expect it to be crowded, especially on weekend days, and moderately so on weekdays. The 60th anniversary celebration will be kicking off sometime around your visit, so that may influence attendance as well.

Ah, that's right! Almost forgot about the 60th anniversary plans. That said, crowds at Disneyland compared to Disney World are always vastly different, right? Having only been to DW for years before my original Disneyland trip, it felt almost empty to me which was great. Do you imagine the 60th anniversary celebrations at the time will be on par with DW crowd levels? Thanks in advance for your help!

Crowds-wise, you should be fine. I suggest spending some days doing other things in California. Ten days at Disneyland is seriously a lot, unless you meant ten days in California in general?

My father and I did 10 days at Disneyland and we were pretty content. Granted, it was our first stay there so everyday I never really found myself bored. Although, my fiancee and I do intend to visit Universal Studios this time around. I really can't wait to get back to Anaheim, I was pretty bummed to pass it up for the honeymoon but luckily a decent amount of new stuff will be open at Disney World that we haven't experienced yet so it's a nice tradeoff.

I'm with @raven24 - 10 days at DLR sounds like overkill, but whatever floats your boat. We've got a great thread with other things to see and do in the area if you're interested in perusing:

Yeah, I definitely think we'll be visiting Universal Studios this time around and if we can swing it, we'd love to check out Legoland. Overall, it should be a blast. I'm just dying to get back to Disneyland, I really treasured that vacation and can't wait for my future wife to experience it.

I'd suggest doing a studio tour at Paramount or Warner Bros, if you're interested in going to Universal. I love Universal, but that's a lot of theme parks lol.

The day we fly in we are renting a car from Alamo in DtD for like $80. 24 hr rental. Will use it to go try the ever-popular In-N-Out, perhaps swing by Sprinkles cupcakes in Newport, then head down to Crystal Cove State Park to see the Pacific Ocean. We also plan to stop by a store before returning to our resort to pick up bottled water, sodas, etc to have for the next 6 days. You can rent a car from DtD for cheap and go hit up some places of interest on your own PLUS make a grocery run. I know for my family the savings from buying our own bottled water will largely pay for the rental expense.

That's actually a great idea! I'd love to do the studio tours for both of those... This could easily turn into a better trip than the honeymoon already :p

Thanks for the info! That's definitely something to highly consider, it would be nice to have the luxury of hitting up places at our own pace and be in control of where we go.

We're going the Tuesday and Wednesday after Memorial Day this year. Grad Nites are scheduled throughout that time, but with 10 days there, that shouldn't be a problem for you.

Good to know! Yeah, I think with that amount of time, I don't think any crowd will be too crazy for us. Thanks for the heads up.
