Err.... A multi million dollar E Ticket opens this summer.

Dreams was brand new 18 months ago as was Toy Story Playland.

The original Es are getting thorough refurbs as are key areas

Indy is being rebuilt

The mods are getting huge refurbs

A lot to go yet, yes, but you're OP is wrong.

But by WDW standards we'd say that those are nothing but long overdue standard maintenance, including Indy. And that in seven years' time we've only seen three cheap off-the-shelf carnival rides, and possibly a good new dark ride.

Me, I went twice last year to the new Egyptian area at Asterix, with Europe's best coaster. No foreigners there, only Frenchmen visit. :D

Indy is an unusual one. The false temple is life expired and not simply being replaced like for like. I was shocked when I heard the plan!

2008s Tower wasn't cheap, albeit a clone, but certainly did the intended job for the park. Crush went above and beyond IMHO its original scope and is a solid D.

There's no denying the resort is still financially struggling, taking one step forward and one and a bit steps back all the time. Oh if only they made as much profit as WDW does and actually injected a lot of it back into the parks as WDW doesn't do. The plans are there for much more at DLP if they could afford it. Unlike WDW where they can actually afford it but won't do it.

Cool, I thought Indy was a direct rebuild, this time in more sturdy material. Can you shed a light? Indy is a fun ride with nice placemaking. With some plussing, for example if they could integrate the tracks better with the temple, it could move one step up to a great little coaster.

ToT is great. I do not care it being a clone. ToT on its own, including the placemaking of its surroundings, uplifts an entire park. Crush is always an hour wait, but deservedly so. Great ride, a complete blast. Both however are six, seven years old? In a park that still leaves much to be desired.

Your third point is excellent. At least DLP seems to try. For every failure you see a succes. They are at least trying, in perhaps the most difficult circumstances of al Disney parks worldwide. And Dreams and Rat alone seem to be beyond the scope and ambition level of WDW.

I honestly agree. WDSP is still lacking. In almost every area. But, having first visited it when it was 3 months old I can say it has improved immensely. How sad is that? I kind of feel sorry for EDLSCA. They have grand plans. They want to implement them. They just can't afford it.

07s Crush and 08s Tower did their jobs are are pretty remarkable attractions when taken in context. Even Playland, whilst aesthetically pig ugly for the for the most part hit its target and is very popular. Sadly the additions have been few and far between. The placemaking as part of the Tower project was commendable as an added bonus for somewhere literally counting every cent at the time.

Indy, from what I'm aware of, was originally decorated with false styrofoam rock work that was shotcreted and detailed. That was part of the quick fix they needed for summer of 1993. Now the structure is beyond its useful life and so is being replaced on the most part by real rock work.

You know, I used to pretty much despise WDSP. In as much as one can harbour such a personal sentiment for a material object like a theme park.

I had slowly noticed that I do spend a great deal of my time in that park. For a long while I thought it was simply the result of doing ToT and RnRC. But numbers don't lie. I spend perhaps forty percent of my time in WDSP. The park still leaves me amazed at how badly designed a Disney park can be, but for the first time ever last October I did feel a certain fondness for the park. If I get over myself, I do like the entrance area, and when not overcrowded, the Soundstage 1 area is alright, with lots of details. Beyond lies a pretty decent ride line-up, no denying that.

I blamed my giving in to the park on the sentimental music. I can be so easy.

I would visit Disneyland Paris as often as WDW if they added Splash Mountain, Star Tours 2, decent fireworks, Toy Story Mania to Toy Story Land and general refurb of everything and it would be great. Last time I went, 50% of dolls in It's a Small World were not working and the beginning and end were covered in cobwebs.

In fairness, they can't have high level/loud pyro. Local noise enforcement don't allow it. However have you seen Dreams - it more than makes up for the lack of a firework show.

Yes WDSP kind of seems like a parking lot with attractions plopped here and there. I get that the theming is "movie studio lot" but at least make me feel like I'm in Hollywood or something. Palm trees, mountains in the background, the SoCal feel would be great. I realize that Disneyland itself is in SoCal, but almost anything would be better than "parking lot."

That being said, the Disneyland Paris park is beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to DLP when I was there back in June.

Edit: YES I think I started to take a liking to it because of the music as well. I still have this guitar riff stuck in my head. No idea what the full song is.

'Yes, totally' to your first two paragraphs. 'What guitar riff?' to the last. (Not Chariots of Fire I hope!)

WDSP 1.0 really did have tarmac+soundstages for a theme. The idea being that the backstory of being on the Disney Studios backlot makes it magical. In effect, it was as beautiful and immersive as walking through a windswept factory buiding complex.
It was thought too that it would be very easy to upgrade rides to the newest and latest IP fad. Simply change the cardboard cutout marquees on the outside, and change the music and some scenery inside.

Very sad. Insulting even.

And what a difference ten years made, compared to the DL park next door!

I have no idea what the song is. I heard it after exiting RnRC and it has been bugging me ever since. Some type of electric guitar.

Last year was my first trip to WDSP. Would have been interesting to compare the park to when it first opened. I enjoyed the attractions but the layout/design definitely left something to be desired.

I stayed at the Sequoia Lodge - which I enjoyed, kind of a slightly scaled down Wilderness Lodge - and my only "complaint" when they sent me my comment card a few weeks after my trip was about the design of WDSP. I basically just said that I like to be "transported" when I go to a Disney park, and WDSP didn't really bring me anywhere special. Super easy to walk though, I'd assume it's the smallest Disney park?
