One Little Spark...
I despise Joe Rhode. I think he's a shallow hack who thinks he has "vision" when he doesn't. To his defense, I do understand he had internal pressures that I will never be aware of, but that doesn't make me any less sick when I hear him start talking about the "story" at Animal Kingdom. There is no story there. It's barely even a series of experiences. It's a terrible park that falls back on a preachy message as a crutch.

Whether that is Joe's fault or not, I'm not sure...but he certainly hasn't done anything to stop it.

I don't really fault him for AK being the way it is. That's TDO who slashed the budget and made that park the way it was! If only we could have seen the original concept and attractions come to fruition, I don't think anyone would b complaining!

They're so proud that it's the "highest grossing film of all time!(!!!)"

Hate to say it, but...

I don't remember Universal bragging about Potter's box office receipts last week to hype HP2. It sorta hyped itself.

Also enjoyed the uncomfortable laughter when the dude mentioned most of the social media sites and blogs are "very good [pro-Avatar]. We'll switch those final people over shortly."

Way to boost CM morale -- pretend that Avatar has been greeted with excitement (when it very obviously hasn't been) and acknowledge that a number of people think it's a lame idea.

Exactly. Tiger River Rapids, Excavator Coaster, Beastly Kingdome, a better CTX and Safari Village boat ride, etc. Had the park been built properly, it would have been Orlando's premier theme park.

But, they blew it. And then forgot to maintain it.

At least they're starting to admit their mistakes and do something about it.

The guy is a master designer when it comes to queues. He just tends to forget that the ride is supposed to be the highlight of the experience.

But consider: he's an unconventional cosmopolitan "man of the world"--a real visionary Artist--who wears his eccentricity on his sleeve (or in his ear lobe)...

...and who happens to design for Disney (the bourgeois, middle-of-the-road brand par excellence).

Makes you wonder.

True, he does make excellent queues.

I quite enjoy DAK -- it's my favorite park at WDW -- so I'm not keen on the Rohde criticism myself. The park is certainly light on attractions, though, but I agree that that falls more on the guys controlling the budget than WDI. I would have loved to have seen the park with the original plans (especially Beastly Kingdomme and TRR instead of Kali). I think the theming of Harambe and Anandapur are awesome.

Rohde (six minutes in): "When a tree falls in Animal Kingdom, you might just let it lie there."

...

Rohde on DAK: The park "has an unrehearsed quality...We have stories that are unreconciled."

So I guess the broken Yeti fits in with DAK's theme.

Listening to him talk about how the park is a transformative experience...
And if he needs to give a 10-minute lecture to explain how Avatar fits into the park...:rolleyes:

What did they say?

Flying banshee ride= the Soarin'-ish concept

"Exploring bioluminescent forest" = boat ride and walkthrough areas/ambience

When he emphasizes that the atmosphere of the land is an attraction in and of itself (sigh)...yeah, I think he might as well have said "th-th-that's all, folks."

I've always liked Joe Rohde, but the way he's talking here makes my skin crawl. And it looks like the lower half of his ear is gonna tear off.

Random thought: I wonder if he'll start wearing Avatar-themed mewlery for special events?

First I am not one that thinks everything Disney does is perfect and I have been to Universal Studios many times. Still at the same time am I the only one that comes to this web site to get what information I can on what is happen at Walt Disney World. It seems that everyone is just looking for one thing or another to make Disney look bad and to say how much better Universal is. I found this short film clip to be interesting and it seems that this may be a fantastic addition to Animal Kingdom. I know I will be there with an open mind when this attraction opens. It seems the many of already made up there minds before hand.

My advice for all those that think Universal is great and Disney can not do anything right, go find a Universal Studios web site and leave this one for good. Why waste your time on talking about something you hate. I am tired of it and I would think that the complainers would be tired of it to.
