Did you guys see the photos of Niagara Falls (if not...you're about to)?

6-Frozen%20American%20Falls.JPG
The thing with the falls is that all those big chunks that are at the base are just rocks that have fallen from the face of the falls, coated with ice. It looks pretty, but it's not all tha spectacular. The water continues to go over the edge unabated just falling behind the ice. Call me when the water stops and the Niagara River starts to back up. ;)

The sad thing is that they figured that within the next hundred or so years, the American Falls will no longer exist, but, will be rapids due to the pieces falling off.

Will it be easier to go over in a barrel?

Everything around here is ice right now. We knew this was coming for a few days, but was there any salt on the roads? No. Are there several vehicles in ditches? Yes. Schools got out early today to avoid the ice/sleet.

Schools opened 2 hours late here today due to freezing rain. The roads were OK when I went out but sidewalks were slick. It's warmer now and forecast to stay that way for at least several days.

It's warmer here today, but that's what's causing the ice. The temps are near freezing, so it's a freezing rain that's coming down now.

It is pouring here atop several feet of snow on ground roof and iceblocked gutters. Now the remaining snow on sidewalks and driveway along with the roads are flooded over with rainwater so the snow is solid iceblocks with water floating atop. This is sucidoodles.

They had a photo op ground-breaking ceremony for Pandora at DAK today.
It's coming people, like it or not.

Me, I'm happy to be getting anything, although I do believe it will turn out to be pretty spectacular!

It wouldn't have been my first choice for an addition to AK but it's nice to get some sort of addition there instead of more subtractions.

I'm not a big Avatar fan, but I think it can be nicely done. I'm excited to see the final product, especially the rockwork, etc. I think it can be a beautiful place, I'm just not sure about the attractions portion. We'll have to wait a few decades to see the finished product, though.

I see it basically as a substitute for the original Beastly Kingdom idea, which wouldn't seem as original now due to additions as Universal. I hope there's still money and space to eventually add another land at AK that's more like Africa and Asia.

I forgot to share this yesterday - my new site has been delayed by another week or two.
So ... NOT going back to work next weekend.

Hubby has kindly offered to let me work for him tomorrow while he coaches in a tournament though. YAY!!! (holds up Sheldon sarcasm sign). His clients are so much more difficult than mine.

Well, we sure don't want to harm a blade of grass with that nasty old salt. Better a bunch of dead people. Choices we make as human beings with only a minor knowledge of what they are talking about.

Here in Raleigh, I was just listening to the local news and they had a segment on the Falls Freezing over. Not a clue, these people. Reporting, I guess just for the sake of having something to report that the ice has caused the Niagara Falls Parks to close the observation decks, etc. it's so bad. Also that there has been a warning that some of the islands in the Niagara River might become flooded. What they didn't mention, probably because they didn't know and just plain do not understand winter weather, is that those decks are never open in the winter and even if somehow the falls managed to freeze solid blocking the American Falls, the Horseshoe Falls in Canada is part of the same complex and that is moving water like crazy. Couldn't flood if it wanted too.

Just so everyone knows, although this had been a pretty harsh early winter, it isn't anything new or unheard of. We had many, many times that we had sub-zero weather that stayed that way for 10 or more days in a row. Nothing new. Winter as usual from the not real distant past.
