Loud Music at POR Pool?

Ok...I was just watching a video I found on YouTube that someone took of POR, and when the video shows the main pool, there's loud, booming rap music playing and someone calling out dance or exercise moves. This isn't something that goes on frequently, is it? I sure hope not. Here's the video - the music is around 7:30.

Most of the resorts have these types of things, I believe. It seems to be during the day (when many people are at the parks). It's an activity intended to keep the kiddos entertained. It doesn't go on all day, though.

PS- I'M GONNA BE THERE ON SUNDAY!! :D

Ok, I'm actually looking at the Pool activity schedule for this month (and this is how you eat up the time between now and your trip!), and I see the pool party is scheduled for 3-4pm each day with a lot of additional activities at the pool too.

Well, I'm ok with this if it keeps my 4 year old son occupied and alive for a little while so I can read by the pool, etc. :)

I really find all that quite annoying. Do kids really need that to enjoy themselves in a pool?

We stayed at a nice, quiet report in Cancun once. We walked through a much larger resort one day, and the pool was all booming music and an announcer on a pa system. It would have made me crazy. But at least there are these quiet pools, which might be preferrable.

I'm actually a little surprised no one's mentioned this before. I'm bumming, a little bit...

It really doesn't take away from the resort. I've stayed at POR numerous times, and have not been distracted by it. I find the main pool to be kid-oriented in the first place, so if I prefer to go to a quiet, more relaxing pool, then I just go to one of the smaller pools. The ones in the Alligator Bayous are especially nice.

I remember hearing the music at about the same time at the WL this past year as well. I'm sure there have had to be complaints because, if you have a courtyard room, you can't get away from it and its probably nap time for some of the kids.

I think all main pools have something like this. And the "MC" that I believe you're referring to in this case is actually part of the song. It's called the "Cupid Shuffle" I believe. I think there's a CM there, but he or she is not as loud as what you heard.

We need time for things to happen.
Oh That's DJ Ruinz!

As in ruins your vacation!!

I didn't hear any rap music. I believe I did hear the song "Cotton Eyed Joe" which is most likely some kind of dance party going on for the kids at the resort.

If that kinda thing bothers you, you're in for a loooong vacation! ;)

Anyway..put your head under that sweet waterfall and you won't hear a thing.
Great pool, one of my favorites.
That's a great resort, The best stay we had in all our times at WDW with the exception of the Poly.

Enjoy!!

They had a pool party going on at All Star Sports last week in the afternoons when we were there. Didn't go on all night, though apparently the kids at Sports seem to think it's ok to play football on the football field and scream and yell at 1:30 in the morning. Our room was right off the football field and we had to call security 2 nights because we couldn't sleep. I know they have a sign that says quiet hours between 10pm and 8am but the only mornings we saw that sign on the field were after the 2 nights we called. Guess they don't put it up all the time, but I digress....

Back to the subject at hand, the pool parties looked like fun for the kiddos :)

The funny thing is that I was trying to find some nice video to show to my wife where we were going to be staying in October. I found this video - good thing I watched it first, because the noice from that pool party would have turned her off. Not that she'll spend much time at the pool - she'll probably leave that to me and the kids.

I did all the planning to get to the point of booking, then after I booked she suddenly met someone who "knows about WDW, and said the WL is the best place to stay, and blah blah, ..." Yeah, well, this person doesn't know our budget, and hasn't read the unnoficial guide over and over, and started asking a ton of questions on WDWMagic, and...

Guess I better just tell her I've already booked it...

There is no "right or wrong" resort in Disney. It's all pretty much personal preference. Yes, some have better things than the other, but IMO it mostly boils down to what theming you prefer, and what you are willing to pay for those extra amenities.

Wilderness Lodge IS beautiful, but they have the same pool party. All the resorts do. I had a ground floor room right by the pool at WL and I could hear it pretty easily. Just go to the quiet pools while the party is going on.
