Loud Music at POR Pool?

Yes, POFQ also does this in the afternoon -- every resort pool has a "pool party" for an hour in the afternoon -- they do a bunch of different things, including trivia games and "dance parties" -- they play pop music for an hour or so (Katy Perry and One Direction kinds of stuff mostly). Its not a big deal, and almost every resort hotel everywhere (even at adults-only resorts in the Caribbean) do this type of thing these days. If it bothers you, check the resort schedule you will get at checkin and just don't go to the pool at that time -- or go to the smaller "quiet pools" at POR.

Guests complaints actually got them to lower the volume of the music at the pools at the Grand Floridian Resort.

POR's themed pool is on its own "island" away from all rooms...GF's volume influenced guests in their rooms...French Quarter's volume is also not as loud as POR's pool party because its surrounded by rooms...
Interestingly enough, it doesn't seem to make any difference at WL, where the afternoon pool party is so loud it disturbs everyone in every single room lining the entire inner courtyard...but again, its just an hour...

Kind of strange, though, that they don't turn it down some. As someone alluded above, kids certainly don't NEED to have it that loud. And speaking for my own kids, just having a fun pool with a slide, etc. is enough of a party for them. There's enough organized fun at WDW - in my opinion the pool is a good place for disorganized fun. I guess this is Dis-organized fun. Ha-ha.

I don't know about the other resorts, but "Ol' Man Island" at POR is as far from the rooms as you can get, as it's centrally located. It's loud so as to encourage people walking by (with kids) to join in, and so that everyone can hear the questions (in case of a trivia game). I don't think there are too many people sleeping in the rooms during these times, besides. It's all good. Let the kids have their fun. It's bad enough they're "stuck at the resort" instead of in the parks... ;)

Ok, good to know. In 2000, the Polynesian was pretty quiet, but I think the whole nonstop thumping bassline thing hadn't been invented yet. I should look at the positive side - I'll probably not have to say "shhhhhh!" to my 4 yo for the entire week. I won't even have to worry about him yelling his new, favorite word - "badass!" Thanks for that, 14 yo brother!

I was wondering when this all started too. I don't remember the Boardwalk pool having it when we stayed there in 2009, but this past trip a few weeks ago they had lots of music & pool party stuff going on. We had a pool view room and were afraid this would effect DD's afternoon nap. But it luckily didn't. I thought the trivia by the pool was fun, and some of the games were cute too. It ended up being a good thing, but I just had no memory of it from our last time there!

I remember hearing the music at about the same time at the WL this past year as well. I'm sure there have had to be complaints because, if you have a courtyard room, you can't get away from it and its probably nap time for some of the kids.
We had a courtyard view at WL last year and I was amazed at how loud the music was, even with the balcony door closed you could still hear the thumping! After the first few days I got used to ignoring it, it didn't interfer with my afternoon nap!!

I must add WL is still the best resort at WDW!!!!!!

That's interesting, we stayed at the GF in 2008 in 'Boca Chica' with a Lagoon View and we never ever heard anything except the sound of nature, birds singing, wind blowing through the trees, sound of the water ...... Ok, now I'm depressed! :(

It doesn't go on all day in the pools. It does seem to go on all day in Tomorrowland, though. :)

I 100% agree that kids do not need this to enjoy swimming. But I hate to dump on it because I'm not sure sure if my dislike for the whole business is because it is obnoxious or because I am...old. :(

It seems like the big pools have tons of noise and the small pools are regular pools.

For all you Uni fans...another great reason to stay at PBH, where the Quiet Pool means it is QUIET!!! (No children. Maybe the occasional baby, if the baby is quiet.:))

It isn't your age. That music is what parties back home are for!

I really find all that quite annoying. Do kids really need that to enjoy themselves in a pool?
Amen! Even at the the Disney Vero Beach resort, when there may be no kids around they have this everyday. We call it "forced fun". And there is no other pool at Vero to escape to. Quiet is OK guys. Really.
"Now is when we dance and have fun". "Do it or else"
