I think I have to cancel my trip

Well, I had a trip planned for October over fall break since it's the only time I'm available to go and our wedding APs expire in December. But DH and I just booked a Disney cruise in January for our anniversary and he's strongly encouraging me to cancel my October trip to save for the cruise (he won't flat out tell me to do it). We're DVC members and have the APs so I'll only have to pay for food and driving down, but I'm seriously considering canceling anyway. I know he feels like we're always in Florida and he's getting burned out. :( The biggest downside is I'll have to rent out my DVC points because they'll expire at the end of May '14. Poo. I know there's nothing you fine people can do about it, but I thought I'd share my sadness. You're welcome, I suppose... ;)

Same here. I'm LUCKY to get there once a year. I wouldn't say DH is a lover or a hater but I definitely have to tread lightly in how much I gush about an upcoming trip or how much I "drag" him around the parks. I'd sit tight for awhile and see if he changes his mind but be ready to rent out those points if necessary. These men need a serious pixie dusting....LOL! Good luck and keep us posted.

I agree! Perhaps @real mad hatter should hold a seminar for our husbands?

where/how do you rent points? Right now I am looking at Disney.com for May 21-27 (for honeymoon) standard room/coronado with 8 day tix park hopper for $1800

I can't really afford any more, but can you come out cheaper with renting points?

I don't think I understand..you live in NC, so not that far or expensive to drive, you have APs, and you have the DVC points for the room. You can eat cheaply if you want, just stick to CS...Why won't he go? Is it really the money or did I miss something? :)

It's a combination of the money and he's burned out on Disney for now. He told me I could go alone, but he'd prefer if I canceled it. I could see it costing about $400-$500 if I stick to QS, but he sees that as $400-$500 we could spend on the cruise in January, which I can understand.

May of next year? You can definitely come out cheaper renting points - and you'll be staying in a DVC villa! Right now I'm offering October 22-27 for $912 at Saratoga Springs. PM me if you're interested in renting :)

That's what I was going to say, the trip is practically paid for. You can go to Walmart and get cereal for the room and just eat QS for lunch & dinner and don't buy any merchandise or do anything extra like the M n s s h p. I say GO!

That's true, and if the points don't get rented I'm still going to go. But like I said, he sees it as $400-$500 that could be spent on spa services or nice dinners in January. I get that. If I worked I would just save up the money to go myself, but at the moment I'm a full-time student and I babysit on the side. I could still probably save the money, but I could also be saving it for the cruise. Man logic. ;)

I hear ya, it sounds like he really wants to do it up on the cruise so that will be nice.

Yikes! We should start a thread called "the trouble w/ non-Disney hubbies"... J/K;)
Oh, not you too! Say it isn't so. I see guys on here like @ShookieJones and I'm like "This is sooo not fair...I want a Disney lovin' hubby too!"

I'm in that boat as well. DH likes WDW, but is bored...yet, not so bored that he's willing to sit it out. I guess at least @vitani88 has a Disney cruise to look forward to regardless of what happens with this trip. I know- it would be more fun to do both, but I think DH will start planning all of our vacays if I push for a post New Year's 2014 cruise on the Wonder while it's still in Galveston.

To OP, I can see how even a trip like this could add up to more $ than you want to spend. Depending on what you drive...the gas to get there and back is likely several times (or more) than what you'd normally spend in that time frame + even if you could bring food to cut costs and eat your few WDW meals at QS spots...would you want to? I'm just thinking of that thread about how important is dining to you. I know it's a non-issue for some, but to others it cuts some of the fun factor of the trip if cutting way back on dining. I don't know much about points rentals, but every time I check out the prices on David's - he always seems to be posting about points shortages...so hopefully you'll be able to sell the points.

Can I send my hubby with your guys to Hatter's school for non Disney lovin husbands?????
While I'm comforted not to be the only one in our situation, I feel for all of us who wish our husbands shared our enthusiasm for something we love as much as Disney. I would love to discuss an upcoming trip a lot more often, have him a little more involved in the choices and the planning. I feel like a one-woman show up until we leave for the airport. @real mad hatter....our husbands need a major Disney dose of your enthusiasm!

We need time for things to happen.

I'm Disney Lovin' nut there is no doubt.
Here's the thing I'm either contagious or persuasive because although my wife never disliked WDW, there were years when she tried saying..."ahh..maybe not this year" But she would cave eventually and we'd go.
Once my kids became full on WDW nuts there was no going back.

No lie today she was so angst ridden that it was May 2nd and we should have been getting up tomorrow morning for our yearly May trip (things changed again this year and we had to move to September again) that she was over my shoulder at the PC telling me we should book a quick weekend away to the World.

So either I got a way of convincing her or I'm viral. Maybe it's both...Either way the girl's gotta have it.

No doubt that It's good to be on the same page when it comes to stuff like this...but @vitani88 it doesn't sound like the old man is totally hating on the World.
You do have a nice cruise coming up.:)

Ehh if you're up to it you can try a little passive aggresive reverse psychology??

" 400-500 dollars...Yeah you're right that is a lot of money... we probably wouldn't have a completely awesome time going for a quick weekend with that money"
