I asked this questions months ago but never did it. Here is my qusetion. Has anyone SPLIT their stay between hotels and how convienient was it to tansfer luggage? What did you do? Did you arrange in advance? Did you wait till you arrived at first resort? We are seriously considering but not if its a hassle to transfer. Thanx for advise!

Hmm...there are probably a half dozen threads on this same topic, so not sure why you didn't get your answer...
Its not that big of a hassle at all. The resorts will even transfer your luggage for you. They deliver it to the new resort and you pick it up at luggage pickup (it takes some time).
If you really want to split resorts and want a guaranteed resort, you better arrange in advance -- lots of them sell out and there are no rooms available even if you decided you did want to switch.
In the old days, you had to re-check in at the second resort -- but now, I think they just transfer your room number to your same key to the kingdom card. They'll explain how they are now doing it when you arrive and check in at your first resort.

Yes, we've done it several times, and it's fairly common. I think Ron pretty much summed it up, but we typically say that a 3 night stay per resort is about the minimum for the mid-trip pack and move to be "worth it" for us. We always did the split stay to save money or experience a new resort, and I recommend leaving the nicer of the two resorts as your last one. We had good success with Bell Services transferring our luggage for us. Just packed up the night before, called them that morning before going to the parks, then went to the new resort that night and it was waiting on us.

I have split resorts a few times when my plans change and I need to arrive a day or two early due to winter weather up here in the Michigan Tundra...and my regular resort was not available for those first two days. I didn't think it was a hassle either.

We've done it a few times, usually staying at another resort prior to moving to DVC. We just dropped off our bags at bell services and left for the park. As soon as we got to our new room, our bags were either already waiting for us or just a quick phone call away. We'll be doing it again for our next trip but this time we are driving so I expect we will just load our bags into our car and take them ourselves.

It's not a hassle at all. You simply need to arrange with bell services to get the luggage to the new resort. Either drop your luggage off at the desk yourself, or call them for a pickup. They will get it to your resort later that day. If there is anything you need before mid afternoon, you should carry it with you as the luggage may not arrive til mid afternoon. Also, unless you call a cab, this is the only option to get luggage to another resort as you are not supposed to take luggage on Disney transportation.

I would agree with this. When we had our honeymoon, we island hopped and the last hotel was the nicest (and after coming off a really bad hotel). It was heaven.

HOWEVER, I am considering a split stay to save money. A few days in AKL villa and then in a value. In that case, I think I would want to stay first in the villa to be able to do laundry (I think we will do a stint at USF before Disney). Staying at the villa at the start of the WDW trip (middle of the whole thing) would allow us to do laundry (in our room) and pack less

The luggage was the least of the problems.

What I didn't like was having to pack everything up, thinking about when to pack, sticking all the stuff in cases - clean, dirty, wet, dry, new stuff, snacks, etc. - and the having to check in again. The luggage itself I just rolled to the car and tossed it in, then took it out at the new place.

Packing at home is a little work, but easy, fun and exciting. Packing while on vacation is work! And when do you pack? Take a morning off? Get up super-early? Do it late, when you're tired after a night in the park? The afternoon break the day before? Ugh.

It makes the vacation less relaxing and less enjoyable. Feels very disjointed...because it is disjointed!

I for NO on the split stay.

We too have done it, had no issue what so ever. Just let bell services know. We did at check in and arranged for them to be brought over, we called to arrange something the day before our transfer. I do agree on two things.

1. Save the nicer-or your favorite-til the second half...
2. I don't know if we are truly fans of it. I agree with @luv in the sense it made things a little less relaxing. And made the trip seem a whole lot shorter in the sense that we never truly unpacked or got comfortable....we enjoyed both of our stays but just find for us, the stay at one hotel for the entire length a little more so....

Totally agree with you! Moving the luggage isn't a problem at all, it's the packing. We had a split stay at AOA/POP on our trip last September & packing everything up again in the middle of the trip was a pain in the rear!
