Well we went to Prime Time this past summer. Thought would be so much fun. We sat down and I knew that the waitresses were quirky, knew the act....but what happened really was embarrasing to me and has left lasting impression. he waitress comes up to me and started taking me baseball cap off..telling me no hats at the table. Just caught me by surprise. Again I know the routine. BUT she I am sure could tell i was very uncomfortable with this mainly because without the hat i had extremely bad hair day ( guys you can relate right?) My hair just looked so bad and i was embarrased....I tried to joke and talk my way out of this but she kept insisting and i finally relented. Ended up the next hour...being so embarrased because i knew my hair looked terrible and was self concious. I KNEW she could pick up how upset I was and kept the act up. I vowed Id never go back. Should i have complained to Mgr.?

As a restaurant manager myself, I can see how you could be upset by the actions of the servers if you weren't aware of what you were getting into, but since you already knew, you could have easily informed the server you didn't want to "play" and you would have been left alone. If she didn't leave you alone after you spoke up then yes a complaint could be warranted but you didn do that...I see no problem with what she did.

I recall 50s our server doing something similar with DH (it wasn't hats, but something else DH wasn't up for). In restaurants like that, it's really on the patron to set the boundaries since it's part of the experience. After our good laugh over it, DH nicely but firmly said that's enough with that particular part of the act. It's just like when we did Whispering Canyon...I knew my parents weren't up for all of the antics, so I spoke to our server - said they weren't into it and it would be best to give them no more that WCC-lite.

Only you can decide that.

I went with a group of 6 last year...I knew the routine and did not share the info with the rest of the group, who had never been there before. I thought it would be funny to 'squeal' on one of the others in my party...don't remember what, but it was something silly. I thought 'Mom' would yell at them, but instead I got a lecture about how wrong it is to tattle. It was all in good fun, and I had a good laugh at myself.

In all honesty, why be embarrassed about your hair? The only thing that would embarrass me is if my hair is kept on a holder next to the bed at the end of the night and during my visit to 50s, it flopped off my head onto the meatloaf. Don't feel funny about your hair. Years ago, I used to play volleyball in a semi-competitive environment. There was this new girl who came down to play one night - her first time with us - and she had shorts, tshirt and her hair in a pony tail topped off by a baseball hat. Well, she fit right in and was a great player. During one block at the net, she bacame entangled with another player and they both toppled to the floor. In the scrum, her hat fell off. With the hat, the pony tail went too. The girl had been undergoing chemo and had lost all her hair. Te pony tail was a fake designed to give her comfort. We didn't care and told her that. I am sure she was embarrassed - but why? She was a great player and that is all that mattered. I don't fret the small stuff. And how my hair looks is minor. At WDW, I never look in the mirror. It's not important.

Heck, I have worn Mickey ears, Donald bill, silly shirts, buttons and who knows what else. Plus, I am NEVER going to see the people around me AGAIN.

Ok.....um, it is ok that you decided never to go back again but in all honestly what are the odds that you will see ANY of those people (besides your group) EVER again in your ENTIRE life??? I do stupid things at Disney on purpose because I know that no one here knows me or will remember what I did in a year :/

At another restaurant while visiting with an obnoxious relative, he took the banter way too far with a lovely waitress who was fantastic at her job. When he started in on her about her weight, she professionally brushed it off but you could see the hurt in her eyes and her smile dimmed a bit.
I sought her out afterward, after leaving an extra big tip, and apologized to her and as we spoke, a tear ran down her cheek as she told me she was trying to do her job, but sometimes jerks make it difficult.
Not calling OP a jerk, but I don't see anything worth complaining about. You had a bad hair day...how did that become the waitresses problem?
Having a bad hair day while at WDW...ranks right up there on the bad scale with too much frosting on a cake.

It must be tough to be on the wait staff at Prime-Time. There is really no way to know what reaction will follow "playing out the script". I wonder how the staff training goes? From top to bottom on how to handle "that/the customer" who may take the antics the wrong way?

Even if she could tell you were uncomfortable, it would have been tough to "back out" of her routine.

Sorry it was a bummer; we have had only a few bummers in the World, and it is really disappointing when they occur.

Absolutely not. She was just doing her job! If you were truly that uncomfortable you should have stopped joking and told her that you really wanted to wear it. They can only keep up the act as long as you're willing to play along.
I really have to agree with @vitani88 on this one. You could have always pulled the waitress aside and talked to her. With all that is written about 50s Prime Time and the antics and overall experiences, Im sure Management is of the mind set, that all the patrons are aware this is the theme of the restaurant, and I'm sure if you did speak to the Manager (of course your experience, your right) it would have not been the first time patrons felt a tad bit uncomfortable. I completely understand your feelings though. The best advice I can suggest, is perhaps pick another wonderful restaurant within the parks during your next visit :)

We go to Prime Time every trip and love the experience...Once, We went there years ago with my cousin who was a self conscious teenager (probably 17-18) and he looked at the waitress and said honestly "I dont have the strength for that tonight" when she was kidding him and she immediately took the hint and stopped. They are trained to recognize when guests dont want to play along and will tone it down if asked/observed necessary. I really appreciated her even though it created a more quiet atmosphere fro us... I do agree with other previous posters, though, as that is the atmosphere - just like complaining to the manager that your waitress threw straws or yelled at you at WHispering Canyon would defeat the purpose of the restaurant...Just my 2 cents though!!
