"Tragic Kingdom" report?

There are others more knowledable then me on this subject, but I don't see Diane Miller having much to do with current Disney. She started the Walt Disney Musuem which centers the life of Walt. She doesn't talk much of the new Disney. Like I stated, I read she sold all her Disney stock.

I'm not sure what happen with Roy Jr. stock but Roy Pat Disney (Roy Jr. son) is the only person I see doing anything with current Disney.
I should have added, I visted WDFM last year. If you love the life of Walt you will love this place. I spent 3 hours and needed more time. But bring a box of kleenex, as the last room will have you in tears.

You learn so much about Walt life not only in business but as a family man.

Since Oz is dominating the discussion here, I found this article from the NY Times written by Brooks Barnes about Oz and upcoming live action films currently in Disney Studios Production. The thing most important is that Oz has cost them $325 million to make and market. It would be a Tragic Kingdom if Oz revenue doesn't reach that number.

I want to see it... Just because of Mila <3

Iger has done nothing but set the company up for the long haul. Disney owns Pixar, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Marvel, etc... The company has several licenses to print money and people foolishly want to get rid of the guy? Embarrassing!

No, they want to change the way the company is governed & split the CEO & Chairman of the Board jobs.

They'd also like to see more money reinvested in the company instead of right into the hands of the executives.

I like those moves by Bobby but I'd like to see more long term investing and reinvesting in the company. IMO.

I was just looking at the other big Disney fan site based over on the other coast (micechat). In their questions and answers section, someone actually asks the following concerning WDW. I found the answer quite entertaining, as it is the west coast point-of-view, but true:

Re: Why isn't Disney spending more money?

Oh they are spending A LOT of money...

1+ billion on MM+
500 million on New Fantasyland
300 million on DVC for the Grand Floridia

They are spending A LOT down in Orlando right now... just not on what people want.

This is the problem. 1/4 of this budget could completely reinvigorate everyone's complaints about basic park upkeep for years.

I meant in addition.

I think the other three parks each need at least that much, but I'd almost rather they drop 1/3 to 1/2 that on reinstating the maintenance departments: bring back the third shift, the spare parts, and the non-apprentice craftsmen. Getting what's already there back up to par wouldn't involve WDI at all.

Welcome to the boards, BTW (in case the Genie missed you)

Thank you. I agree with those statements.

Well I guess this answer my question:

Speaking during the comment section of the meeting, Roy P. Disney, the grandson of the company’s co-founder, took aim at shareholder advocates. “It’s unfortunate that this company should be used as a podium” for those seeking to make a point about corporate governance, he said.

Love It! Thanks for sharing the find!

Skip Fantasyland, we all have our opinions on that, But can you just imagine the rehabs for a billion,300 million?
Jeepers they could have fixed and created some real magic for that.

Out of the 500 million I'd love to know what the Magical Tangled bathrooms cost. And Iger thinks coffee is the most pressing problem for guests. Time for him to go bye bye.

Remember when that bridge in MN collapsed? Suddenly there was a call to replace the old crumbling bridges with new ones, but there was a problem. That state didn't have nearly as many engineers as it did back when all that infrastructure was built. I remember hearing people in that state say things like they wish they had the intellectual brain trust of their forefathers who built their state a long time ago so that they could rebuild before things go into disrepair. It's just one of those things that I kept in the back of my head, because it's just weird that people would ever think that previous generations were any more advanced than the current one. It sounded especially weird to a Floridian, where everything is always in a state of construction and growth. Any way, they couldn't find local companies who were qualified - or knew how the design the type of big bridge that collapsed and killed hundred of people, whom drowned in their vehicles in icy depths. Out of state contractors were eventually hired.

Any way, I'm going off in a tangent about this because the current management - I don't know why - reminds me of this. Like I said in an earlier post, under Eisner, they just kept building - more and much more quickly. Growth at WDW was EXPLOSIVE. Now, under the current management, they're very much like the people of MN back during the years when that bridge collapsed and have forgotten how to build things. I mean they do try. Art of Animation took... what, TEN years to get completed... FLE progresses, but it seems to have been under construction for a very long time. Disney Springs/Hyperion Warf has been in a stage of conceptualization for how many years now, as they scratch their heads, trying to remember what it was the Eisner team did that like magic turned vacant swamps into resorts and swimming pools. How long ago was Avatar announced? It's as if they've been staring at the model, waiting for it to grow, but no matter how much they water it and give it sunlight, it wants to crawl and take shape but its forgotten how...

All of this is spot on -- its how we got to the current state, and there've been people warning against it the whole time. I'm not just talking about Disney -- it's just a reflection of society as a whole. I really don't want to minimize the accuracy of what you've posted here...

...it's just weird that people would ever think that previous generations were any more advanced than the current one...

... but believe me, you'll find that this gets easier and easier to imagine as time passes.

That is quoted for the truth.

300 million should have been used for maintenance, updating Fantasmic, or make the Yeti back its original mode.
