What to do to receive a PIN?

In 22+ years of going to WDW I have NEVER received a PIN for a discounted resort stay. As finances are worse than ever this year, are there any places/sites I can subscribe or look at on the Disney website that might "encourage" them to send me a PIN? We were AP holders for practically 20 years before we had to let ours expire. I really need a either a PIN or free dining offer to plan the next trip. I know Disney sends out PINs based on some criteria that I know they would never publish but any help would be appreciated!

Here a few observations I've made over the years. I have booked a trip consistently for the last 20 years and have NEVER received a PIN. I have received many offers in one way or another for the time share properties. My parents on the other hand do not visit WDW every year (maybe every 3 or 4 years) and have received several PINs. I have a friend that went to WDW on her honeymoon and hasn't been back since but has received a PIN every year since for the last 12 years. I guess my point is, your chances of receiving a PIN may increase if WDW feels you may need an "incentive" to return.

I have received three pin codes since joining DVC 6 months ago...three. Before that I only received maybe one and couldn't even use it. SO, I really feel your pain!! My sister, who has only been there once with me and wasn't on any reservation received a few to my address and she's not a fan...bizarre.

DISNEY VISA! Just sign up for one and use it once or twice a month. Pay off the bill. As soon as I signed up I get a pin code every fall that is good for the following spring and then a few months later for the fall.
We use them for everything...even some bills... Just pay them off monthly... and end up with over 400 in Disney Dollars every year.. :)

We need time for things to happen.
get an WDW website account and set up as many "virtual vacations" as possible.
I used to do that on a regular basis and recieved pins ALL the time.
The last 2 years I've been doing this on a limited (to most recently not at all) basis and the PINS have decreased accordingly.

We haven't received a PIN for 5ish years. Of course, we've gone consistently over those years. I think we received it when we skipped a year of going (in order to go twice during the following year). So it may go with what @Pooh Lover said. They probably give it to people who are not every year people. This gets more people into the gates.

I received several PINs in 2010- after setting up my Disney acct, ordering the vacay planning CD, setting up Disney Movie Rewards and getting a Disney VISA. I haven't seen a PIN since. I'm thinking it's b/c we traveled to WDW in 2010, 2011 & 2012. While I'm tempted to book dining for the possible mini trip I'm looking at for MNSSHP in Sept, I'm afraid it will say "hey, she's looking at another WDW trip- so she doens't need a PIN." Sooooo, while I think signing up for stuff helps, any kind of consistent WDW travel drastically reduces your odds of getting anything. Case in point, I helped 2 friends plan their respective trips in 2011. They both got PINs for those trips, haven't been back since, and probably have received at least 4-5 PINs during that time...me = NOTHING :( So sad.

Yes...heed the above.
It is when you poke around on the website...pricing hotel rooms, different packages, and the like that seems to signal Disney that you are interested.

I visit yearly and do a lot of *shopping* on the official website comparing prices of rooms at a resort at different times of the year, or different weeks of the month. This seems to trigger a welcome response from the Marketing Dept, as quite often after doing so within a two week time frame i recieve e-mail offers and postcard offers/PINS in the mail.

I also used to wonder how to receive PINS, as i too visited the Parks often and heard about the near-legendary status associated with these coveted PIN offers.
I apparently missed out on that time period when they were actually worth getting, , as i can tell you that of all the PIN offers i have received over the last 6 or so years NONE of them were any different to the offers already being offered publically by DIsney on their website or elsewhere.
So i could never understand the real demand for a PIN...as you are not really gaining anything.
Again, perhaps they have been scaled back...and once had far more favorable discounts.

Nowadays, there is no difference to what is offered on the official site.

I still enjoy receiving them, i just wish they were a bit more meaty and different from the publically offered deals.

I just read that they put a bounce back offer in your welcome packet which is equivalent to what our pin code offer was this year (35% off a deluxe). So we may just book while we are there in September and that way we can go again and get the discount.

PoohLover you are so right! I previously received pin codes often and then when we started going to wdw regularly the pin codes stopped coming. I have a Disney visa and use it all the time but I haven't received a pin code in awhile

Very true @Mrsdonaldduck about the Disney VISA. I've had one from day one and have never received a PIN from it. And trust me, it's not from the lack of use. :(

Mine is the opposite. When we were going a lot, I got them ALL the time. We haven't been in almost 3 years, and I haven't gotten a single one. And I could really use one as well! Or at least a special offer. Which seem to be coming out later and later all the time. I recall the other times we booked special offers, they were out well in advance for ADR making time.
