I am not a Moderate Person but ...

I love being on the Monorail Line (Polynesian!) or a quick boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom (Wilderness Lodge). I've stayed at a few Moderates and Values for a Night or so but the majority of my vacation time has been in a Deluxe until now.
Last week we stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort and love it. The Play, Stay & Dine Package made it a great deal.
We drove to a few parks and it is very conveniently located. The bus service was great. The buildings & grounds were in great shape. The theme was great for those who didn't grow up in or around New Orleans. The food court (although always busy) was adequate. The shop was good. My wife loved the pin trading board and friendly staff.
If I ever run into some extra money (or stick to the budget) I will go back to the Polynesian.
But if I'm going to pick a Moderate Resort, I will be back at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort.

Our very first visit we stayed at Dixie Landings, which is now Port Orleans Riverside. and we loved it. From there we went Deluxe, (Polynesian mostly ... this year Wilderness Lodge) We just became creatures of habit and loved the various options of transportation from the deluxes. We visit Disney during food and wine just about every year, specifically for food and wine. I think 2014, we may try a Boardwalk resort :) So glad you had a great time!!!!! POFQ is a great resort!!!

I'm so glad to hear this, we have only ever stayed at Deluxes but this year we will be staying at a Mod for the first time at POFQ! I'm a bit anxious about making the change but your thread has eased that a bit! I will miss the gorgeous WL but I may sneak in with @DisneyDebNJ on her upcoming trip! ;)
You can always stow away with us at the WL in September. Your temperament and mine are dangerously similar, which made reading your trip report a blast!

I think you will enjoy POFQ. It is a smaller, more intimate resort yet so close to it's sister resort, that you will have the benefit of both resorts. The buses stop at POFQ first both picking up and dropping off....a huge advantage. Enjoy!

I love both of the Port Orleans Resorts, but French Quarter is my favorite. It's quaint and charming. I loved it so much. And the boat ride to Downtown Disney is so relaxing. I enjoyed the walk over to Riverside where I went to watch Bob Jackson in the River Roost Lounge (I'm a huge fan of Bob). It may not have all of the amenities of a Deluxe, but it still has a lot to offer.

No idea why it was such a major goal, but I wanted to stay in ALL the WDW hotels. I kept putting POFQ off. Thought I was going to hate it because New Orleans holds no appeal for me.

I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the place. It actually became my go-to Moderate - half because I liked it there and half because I have problems with the other mods.

It's not a bad place to stay at all!

Love PO resorts- both of them.:) My hubby is spoiled w/ deluxe resorts though. Our fave so far has been WL- it's one of the better "value" of the deluxe resorts plus it has a boat to MK!:) I'd love to stay @ AK some day- that's not a bad price either for a standard view room ( upgrade when there- it works most of the time), but hubby doesn't want to. Our next choice hopefully in 2014 will be Beach Club! Enjoy! It's all good when you're in DISNEY!:D

well so far weve been to WDW twice (10' and 12') and were 432 days out from our next trip. always being budget minded, we stayed at all star movies and then all star sports. our two kids really loved them of course. for this next trip, i would love to stay at coronado springs. i do believe well stay there, if by some chance we get free dining (yeah right lol). coronado seems to be a great theme for a resort. If not, then were going to do Pop century or the mermaid rooms at art of animation..

I think this post is the general consensus --- and the secret is OUT....POFQ is now the hardest moderate resort to book -- if you plan on staying there, especially during peak times, make sure you make your reservations well in advance. Until a few years ago, POFQ was sort of "our little secret" -- and especially for adults traveling without kids. Now, its the preferred moderate resort for people with or without kids, because of its superb bus service, the small size of the resort that makes everything no more than a 4 minute walk from the Mint, and the boat down to Downtown Disney -- Glad you enjoyed it! Now stop telling people about it! This is the only resort I stay at anymore, multiple visits per year.
