Annoying neighbours

I need to rant!!!!!!! ..........

I hattttteeeeee my neighbours, they are a couple, I'm guessing in their 30's with 2 young sons aged 5 and 3 and they drive me mad! They are noisy but not to the extent I can knock and complain or call the police, here is a list of their annoying behaviour!

1. They slam their front and back doors to the extent my windows shake.

2. The 2 boys are very boistious, they shout and scream, they thump about and run around their living room so frantically the thudding comes through my floorboards, at this very moment they are blowing on whistles, but not even blowing a tune just continuing sharp noises!!!!! It's as annoying as nails being scrapped down a black board! They get so worked up that after 5 minutes the mother shouts frantically, she is very loud and angry and actually puts the fear of god into me when she lets go!! She will also bang on something with 3 sharp bangs when this happens leaving me and Dave jumping out of our skin!

3. She likes to play music loud, during the day though not late at night, plus it's ALWAYS Bruno Mars! I used to like him now I can't stand him! It's so loud I could sing along!

4. She's Polish and returns with the kids from time to time leaving the dad at home, during this time he does carpentry in the evening!

5. Even when it comes to putting trash in the recycling bins outside she has to slam the lids!!!!

6. We have no front gardens our front doors are on the pavement (sidewalk) when she intends on going out for some reason she chucks the kids out 5 minutes before she leaves the house, so they are un supervised and love to touch things that don't belong to them!

7. 2 years ago the dad got someone to paint his side of my wooden garden fence bright red, this was applied so badly and generously it all poured through to my side, I still have red lines running down, it looks like a murder scene, over the years I've tried sand papering the areas but its tough work, at some point I will have to repaint as I have a brown finish and obviously the sand paper is removing it, the man I'd say at the time he would get someone to sort it out but never did. Yesterday I discovered the base of a plastic swing in their garden has been pushed through the bottom of one of my fence panels!!!!

I'm sure there's more but I'm getting annoyed now just thinking of them!

My problem is that their behaviour cannot be called un sociable, they are just living their lives in their home, their not having parties and playing loud music at 4am!

Personally I'm very aware of my surroundings, I don't have my TV on loud, I don't slam doors, when I'm in my garden I keep my voice down. I can't stand the ignorance of my neighbours that they don't realise or care that they are intrusive, any down time I get in my home is stressful, I can't stand it!

I should have pointed out our homes are attached, not like you lucky guys in the States that have your homes stand alone, so we share walls and fences! Although that fence is ours, here in the UK, you own the fence on the left, the right hand side fence belongs to your neighbour on the right!

Anyway!!!! I'm not really after any advice, Im not the sort of person to confront people, plus I can't really tell them to stop their children playing! I always smile politely and say hello! I'm just getting this out of my system and if anyone can empathise or make light of this, that would be great!

Hmmmmm. I can understand your rant..I've been living in my house for 34 years now.But I purposely went for a detached bungalow as apart from playing electric guitar,I do like my music loud.Anyway here's my advice.Buy a set of drums and a set of bagpipes and start your own band.Trust me,the bass drum will shake their windows, and the sound of someone trying to play bagpipes is like Mickey Mouse on helium ;)

That's a tough one. You could fight fire with fire but that could make things worse. As far as the fence when, the wife as left and the husband is home go ask him to mend the fence for you. (tip).. Wearing something low cut always helps sucker guys into doing things for women. If that doesn't work at least Dave will be in a good mood for the evening.

Naughty Uncle Lupe! The husband is a Muslim, I don't think he'll appreciate that much! and if that worked on Dave he'd have sorted the fence out years ago!!!!!!!

My neighbors are annoying, too and we live kiddie corner from each other! Their two big dogs bark all the times, and we can hear them anywhere in our house. They let their dogs run all around and they've been known to go to the bathroom in our yard. And the owners just stand there and watch! Plus, the dogs run in the street and the owners have no sense to call them back when cars are coming, so we have to stop and wait for them to move.

Their 3 or 4 year or daughter broke a fountain in our yard once during Trick or Treating because she was unsupervised. The dad even saw her standing in our fountain (empty)!

I just don't understand people sometimes.

Nothing makes for good neighbors like a tall fence. Living in a condo complex or apartment building can be tough for many of the reasons you list. We once had the SWAT team raid the apartment next to ours. It was quite a shock to walk outside with a garbage bag and find people with assault rifles. We moved!

How annoying! How can people be so ignorant of the people around them! Good manners and kindness cost nothing! I believe in treating others as you wish to be treated yourself, which is why I keep my noise down to a minimum!

We have a 6ft fence but they are destroying it!!!! Maybe an electrified one is better! Wow! I think your decision to move was a wise one!

There are noise cancelling headphones. Has that been scaled up to an entire noise cancelling house? I see a good market for that technology.
OR
Drill a very very small hole through the wall. Just big enough to fit a WD-40 nozzle. Each night spray a stink spray into the adjoining house. After a while of living in a stinky house that they cannot keep from stinking they might move out.

Wow. Okay. Not feeling so bad about our current minor annoyances with apartment living. Before we moved to our current digs we lived in our house (we rented it out) which was 2 stories, unattached, with a small fenced-in back yard. It was comfortable. When we posted it available for rent so we could move closer to the hubby's work we were shocked at how fast we had tenants. We quickly found an acceptable apartment and moved. We are on the 2nd floor of a 3 story building. Neighbors above and below. The below folks are fine. Nice little family with a toddler and infant. I never hear them although one of my sons who says his room is above the baby's says he listens to the baby crying often at night. Funny how I have no pity for my son on that one. ;) The people above us, tho. Yikes. I don't think they've ever lived in an apartment! The mister is sooooo heavy-footed! Just this morning (Sunday) at something like 7 am I heard him thumping back & forth. I figured he was late for church or something. Their little dogs crack me up. I can always tell when the dogs are left alone. In the silence of their own home they can hear us below. They do this yipping and scratching at the floor near our voices trying to get to us. It always makes me smile. The things I **hate** about apartment living, tho! Taking the dog out early & late is the PITS. You have to get dressed, put her on a leash, walk her around until she goes (which sometimes I swear she's trying to push me to my breaking point), then pick up her poop to dispose properly. And I do it without fail. However, it totally irks me to no end when I'm out there picking up my dog's poop and there's piles of it all over where other tenants are too lazy to do the same. In the 8 months we've lived here my dog has been sick with gastro issues 3 times and had an infection in one of her paws. We never had these health issues with her when we lived in our house so I definitely attribute it to the funk outside. Ugh! It sucks to jockey for close parking spots. It sucks to have to walk past whatever nasty garbage the neighbors by the stairs put outside their door (the rotted pumpkin at Halloween time that sat for 2+ weeks had mystery juice running across the ground was pretty disgusting). I hate knowing that at approx. 1 am every night the guy above us will get up to go to the bathroom. I hate not being able to crack open a door, let my dog go do her thing, and let the teenagers worry about the pick-up when they do the yard every week. I hate when the dumpster is getting full people aren't smart enough to open the top and throw their bags in from the top. Nope, they'll pile them up next to the dumpster. I guess they think the trash will magically make it from the ground to the garbage truck. I'm sooooo ready to be back in a house. We'll complete our lease then we're outta here come June! I promise!!!!

There are plenty of apartments, row homes, twin/attached homes in the US, as well as those with single homes that are so close to each other that we can almost hear those in the other house breathing across the alley.

I would say that a few of your complaints are valid enough to call the police.

I feel so bad for you, it's such a shame when your home life suffers due to idiots like this, I'm glad there's light at the end of the tunnel for you!
