Wizard of Oz - The Ride

Not a big fan of the "johnny come lately" expansions when so many other more classic true Disney movies that have weathered the test of time getting so little love in the parks. I mean Mickey himself is not part of ANY rides in the parko_O. Not to be critical but I do not see how Oz would fit into Epcot in any way unless they did an Imagination overlay but even then I am just not sure.

The Wizard of Oz is such a classic movie. Everyone can recognize things from the movie, even if they have never seen it. It's one of those films that will ALWAYS be recognizable to people of all ages. Just like Star Wars. I will admit I have never seen any of the Star Wars films, but I can recognize tons of characters from the franchise. I think Oz would be great for the parks. Maybe a whole land for itself. I'd rather see that come into WDW than Avitar, IMHO.

I love the Wizard of Oz! We just watched it with our 4 year old last night. She can't wait to see Oz the Great and Powerful at the theater when it comes out! I think an Oz themed land would be great!

I love the Wizard of Oz. Never saw it as a kid because of a drunken dad who would not let his kids watch it for whatever reason. I was an adult out on his own and married before I ever experienced this wonderful piece of movie history. With Oz The Great and Powerful coming out in March, it seems to me a Wizard ride would be something wonderful...
Who needs Avatar when you have OZ? YESSSSS XD
Being based on an all time classic, it would fit right in at DHS or I think just as easily at AK...heck, stick it in Epcot where WOL used to be even.
It just seems like it would be an instant success, drawing Harry Potter type crowds if the theme was presented as well as HP.
Is it just me because of my fondness of OZ or are there others who would like to see some flying monkeys at WDW?

Ok. I'm ready for the hate about to come at me.

I think an OZ ride would be an awesome replacement for The Great Movie Ride. Since it's already so outdated and not many people even notice it exists with it's lack of advertisement.

Either that, or an OZ ride in place of Indiana Jones or a part of the Backlot Tour. But I'd prefer it in GMR

Wouldn't it be neat to have a Wizard of OZ musical show??? Perhaps replacing the Beauty and the Beast show. I love that show, but it's been there forever. Am I alone on this idea?

It could be the big stupid "temporary" hat they stuck right in front that obscures the view of the ride entrance That keeps people from being able to find ito_O .

I think it needs updating but to lose something that comprehensive about the movies past and present (I did mention updating) to a single movie based attraction would be a loss IMO.

Not a big fan of the hat!

It's funny but Walt Disney actually had something of a connection to the original 1939 film. It was the success of "Snow White" that motivated MGM to make "the Wizard of Oz". And the writers of the movie referenced "Snow White" again and again when putting together a script. And prior to that, Walt tried to get the rights to the book, but Baum's widow didn't like the story his gag men pitched to her. Later, Walt bought the rights to the Oz books, but in the end decided not to make any Oz movies. I'm guessing he thought that maybe even he couldn't match or top the greatness of the original.

So there is already a strong Disney/Oz connection. If Disney were to build a ride based on the 1939 movie in DHS - as I thought might happen when it was Disney/MGM - I'd be thrilled. But if it's based on this one...I don't know...I just don't know...

I would love to see some sort of new OZ ride or influence in one of the parks, but in my head I am thinking of the original movie, so we'll have to wait and see for the new one.

As for Lone Ranger in Fronteirland, that could be cool too, although how weird would it be to see a Jonny Depp impersonator in both Fronteirland and Adventureland within seconds of each other :D

Disney can indeed build an Oz ride.
However, as said above, they can't use the images, costumes, character design etc. from the original film.

They managed to get limited use, I think it's set at no more than nine minutes, for GMR. (Funny story about how the Fantasia scene was supposed to be the Kansas tornado...)

There is an Oz concept for DL.
Nothing for WDW.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I don't think it could fit in at DAK or Epcot. DHS, though, could be fun. Just move the offices behind Sunset and Animation to another, non-park property and build it there!

It's too bad that Epic Mickey 2 flopped. If it had, maybe the suits would undertake to okay a dark ride or park area based on it. The game had a lot to love, but some dire mechanical issues. If Walt were running things, and he got Oswald back, I bet that lucky rabbit would be in the parks in some capacity by now...

They would have to either write all new music or pay a lot of money to use the MGM music. It would be great but that music is not owned by Disney.

Yes. Yes. I understand that you're saying Disney would rather use material they already have rather than take the time to make something completely original. Disney does have a tendency to do that... Sadly.

It would take patience. Then patience requires time. Then the time would require money. But if Disney could do that with Fantasyland, then I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be THAT hard to get possibly a couple of the Disney broadway show creator people to do something :P

But. Yeah.. I guess I'll just wait for a toy story musical or something instead. -_-
