Pop Century - Good for a Couple in thier 40's?

My wife and I are planning a 6 night stay at POP next month and we're wondering if this will be suitable for us.

As it's only a short trip we only want to stay at a value resort and POP has had some good reviews. We don't mind staying in a resort with lots of other people but we do want it to be clean, fun and somewhere where we can lay by the pool if we want to.

Do you think POP will be OK for the two of us and will there be enough to keep us entertained when we're back at the hotel (I've read you can hire bikes and watch films by the pool and activities like this interest us a lot so any suggestions would be greatly received).

One final question, can you walk across to AOA and have a look around the resort?

Thanks

p.s. apologies I spelt 'their' wrong in the title!

My wife and I stayed there this year. I'm in my 50's. I would recomend it. It's big and there are alot of people but never had any truoble finding a place to lounge at the pool. Yes there are Disney films played at the main pool (usually in the evening) along with other activities like learning how to do a certain dance. Every morning at 8:00 in the food court they stop everything and do the twist to the Chubby Checker song. My wife got up and danced along. I am not sure about the bikes. I didn't see any but that doesn't mean they aren't there. Yes you can walk over to AOA and look around. We did and at that time you could show up around noon and they had tours of the new resort. We didn't. To busy at the parks.

All the onsite resorts are clean, safe, and a lot of fun. Some pools are better than others. It is WDW; there should be lots of kids at most of the pools. POP has 3 pools so if one is not to your taste, you could try the other two. (Some Moderate and Deluxe Resorts have separate quiet pools.)

The Value Resorts tend have more groups of teenagers, who can be very loud at night. If you are a sound sleeper or get a room off to the sides, you should be OK.

The Moderate and Deluxe Resorts tend to offer more amenities. It really depends on how much you want to spend. If POP is within your budget while the other resorts stretch it, stick with POP. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Is upgrading to another resort a possibility or are you simply looking for assurance that POP is OK?

Yes, you can walk across the bridge and look at AOA.

We're just looking for an assurance that POP is OK. We did consider upgrading but for 6 days and the extra cost involved we couldn't justify it

I'm there for a few days next week, so I'll come back here with a report of the rooms, and I'll ask about the bikes since I'm interested in knowing myself.

I was looking forward to walking over to Animation to raid their food court instead of trying Pop's. :)

We're in our "upper" lol thirties, but we've enjoyed Pop. It's less than staying at other properties, but has the same Disney quality. I have to say while we've stayed at CBR and also at Boardwalk, I think Pop's food court selection is the best.

POP is one of our favorite resorts. We are young (mid 20's) but we took my aunt (in her 70's) and we had an awesome time going through the main hall looking at all the stuff from the different decades. We didn't know too many of them, but it was great having her along telling us things that she had growing up. As someone else said, I think their food court selection is one of the best on property, sooooo many yummy things to choose from. And yes, you can walk across the bridge to check out AOA, they have tours I think on the hour, so go up to the front desk and ask if there is an opening. You will have a great time at POP!!

We have stayed there a few times, and very much enjoy it. I have never seen bikes though it has been a few years since we were there. We usually request the 50s or 60s building facing hourglass lake. It is quieter but close to everything. I love taking a leisurely stroll there at night after a day at the parks.

should be right up your alley.

You're old enough to appreciate the theming and the property is the better of the value resorts. The pools are nothing special, but the multiple ones should ensure if you want a quiet pool deck, it shouldn't be too hard to goto one of the minor pools. The main pool will be filled with kids just bouncing and being kids, but in my experience it's not out of control. Secluded escapism pool? No. Riot? No. Just kids having fun and enough pool deck space that adults can be out of the way if they chose.

And yes you can go next door and wander around AoA.

My only complaint about Pop is the noise in the main building area. This is not a 'resort' where you find some escape. I once described it as 'coming home to the mall...'. So if you roll in late, and just want that soft wrap that will make you escape and relax... the Pop really isn't that. But if you can accept commotion... you'll be happy.

We did a split stay a couple of weeks ago AOA/POP. They are both clean & fun & you can definitely lay by the pool if you want to. They don't have bikes but, you can watch movies by the pool. (not exactly at the pool but, near it) Yes, you can walk across the bridge to visit AOA. Both of their food courts are pretty good but, slow! POP's food court seems more crowded & chaotic than AOA's. We enjoyed staying at both resorts. This was our second stay at POP & we'll probably be back again because we prefer the walk to the main building from the rooms compared to walk from the main building to the standard rooms at AOA.

Wifey and I are staying at Pop in about 2 weeks and we're in our upper 50's. We've stayed there twice before (as well as many other onsite resorts) and we find it fits the bill quite nicely. It has nice theming, good bus service, the pools are nice and we're looking forward to walking across the bridge to check out AoA. Enjoy!

Based on some of your helpful replies it sounds as though we will be able to use all of the facilities at AOA e.g. Pools, food court etc?

Please correct me if I'm wrong with my assumption.

Not the pool...I believe it's all "fenced" in and would need an AoA room key to access it.

You cannot use the pool at AOA unless you stay there. Even DVC members, who have "pool hopping" privileges, cannot use the pool at AOA.

It's perfectly acceptable to use the other facilities such as the food court.
