May Crowds?

So we are planning to go to the World in 2014 in late April-early May (30-4?). What are the crowds, weather, and park hours in May? We have only been in late June-July
We also might try the dining plan and a deluxe resort (AKL?) Are there as many extra magic hour days? Your thoughts on traveling at this time?

Thanks :D

I know it is very early, but our 2013 summer trip was cancelled so I'm somewhat starting to "plan" this one :)

EDIT: Also, how are my dining choices so far?: Boma breakfast, Be Our Guest, 50's Prime Time, Pizzafari, Columbia Harbor House, Pinocchio's Village Haus (flatbread!), and could someone tell me how California Grill works?

That is our favorite week to go. Weather is usually great. Two years in a row, we had not one drop of rain that week. It was very warm, but not hot like June. EMH are just like any other time as to number per week. Unless something special is going on. They don't usually change which park is which day until June. They have been changing them a little more often this year; not sure why. It used to be fairly set. I like this time better because they don't usually extend the park hours for everyone like they do during Spring Break times and peak times, so you get the extra hours earlier and can get to bed and rest for the next mornings EMH's. If I had to recommend one week to anyone, this would be it. The second week of May is also good. Once we hit the third week, we would hit some rain. You can check the extra hours on the Disney World official site. I check it all the time to see if anything has changed. You will notice that extra hours have been cut to two hours at night starting in 2013.

Our trip last year was during the 2nd week of may and I will say that we will definitely be going that time of year again for 2013! I have always been to Disney during peak attendance times before and this was the first time ever going in may! We never had a problem with crowds, just about every ride was less than a 1/2 hour wait! And yes that was like that everyday of our 5 days we were there tht week at all 4 parks! I will say that the only rides that were ever longer was tsmm space mtn splash mtn and we never saw them with more than a 45 min wait (we fast passed all of those with great return times about an hour never more than 3 tsmm) highly recommend that time of year! It was especially great because not only were we able to ride every attraction that we wanted to,we were able to go back on rides my son wanted to go back on that he liked! It rained once for an hour when we were at epcot and for a good 20 minutes at DHS but thankfully t was when we decided to sit down and eat at pizza planet! So we weren't affected by it at all!

We have been that for the last 6 years and love it. We have already booked for 2013, 29 April to 11 May.

The crowds are very manageable (although the last couple of years have busied up a little) and the weather is hot without being too mithering. By taking advantage of fp we don't queue more than 30 minutes and that is only rarely. First thing in the morning rides are walk-on, and often later in the day too.

Keep it to yourself though, we don't want everyone realising!!

On our past July trip, we got more done in MK from 9-12 and 8-11 than we did 1-7!

We like going in early May. We've been going that time of year 4 out of the last 5 years (skipped this past May because of the new baby). We've always found crowds manageable, although I will agree it has gotten busier in our last few trips than in the earlier ones. Still, not bad at all though. We've usually had beautiful weather! One year we had a lot of rain, and one year it got hotter than normal. But typically it's great! We're going back again next year for 2 weeks - last week of April & first week of May. :)

How Cali Grill works? It is a signature restaurant at the Contempory resort. If you are a dining plans, it will take 2 TS points.
There is a great view of the fireworks from there. I usually book and ADR for 1 hour before the fireworks are scheduled. At 6 months out, check the park calendars, verify Wishes day and time and book an ADR. It fills up fast. They dim the lite and pump in the music.

What's the difference between 2 credits and 1?

May is our favorite time to go because of Star Wars Weekends. The crowds at DHS may be a problem but if you're not Star Wars fans then just avoid DHS in case they schedule SWW during your vacation.

If you are on a disney dining plan, the restaurants will require 2 dining points. If you are paying cash, it usually just means that the place is more expensive.
Yes, but on the website it just says 1 table service, 1 quick, and 1 snack...guess I'll just have to call and learn more :)

If you are on the dining plan that includes 1 table service, 1 quick and 1 snack, those points are pooled.
For example, let's say that you are staying at a Disney Hotel for 5 nights. You would get 5 of each type of point per person. Those can be used any way and in any combination. You can use 2 for Cali Grill 1 night and then use all quick points another day. The points are available to you at check in and the point usage is up to you until midnight the day of check out.

You can have a day that looks like:

Table service breakfast
Snack for lunch
Quick service dinner

or

Snack for breakfast
Quick service for Lunch
Signature restaurant for dinner which takes 2 TS points.

Any combination of those points is possible

Late April/Early May is a great time to go to the World. My only suggestion is to check and see when Easter falls in 2014 and avoid going near that time b/c the spring break crowds are insane!

We have went several times in May, with the most recent being this past 2nd week in May. The weather was perfect! The crowds are VERY manageable too!

As far as park hours go for next, I would use this April and May's hours as a gauge. From what I have seen they really do not vary that much year to year. And, yes, there regular EMH that time of year. We took full advantage of them in May.

I highly recommend AKL! It is by far my favorite deluxe resort. Nothing campares to waking up and having a zebra wandering around near your balcony!
