Perks of the WDW job....

It's pretty clear that your average WDW park employee isn't raking in the big bucks, but are there other perks to working there that really make it worth your while? (This apart from whether or not you just have the everyday thrill of knowing you work there.)

If you consider it a perk my sister-in-law always has stories to tell. Usually about guest and their inability to act with common sense. Code V stories are funny too.

I don't work there, but I know they get into the parks for free, get X number of guest tickets...and I think the number of tickets they get was changed recently...and they get dining discounts. I'm sure there are more perks.

For me, it's not the free park passes, merch and dining discounts or the tangible perks, it's the Corporate culture associated with working for Disney. It's a family atmosphere for the cast members as much as it is for the guests. I love the general persona that cast members have both on and off stage. I love the freedom we have to "make magic" every day and know that we have an impact on somebodies day, their vacation or even their life. Getting the letters from guests that tell you how wonderful you made their vacation is something I truly value. I don't believe any other company is like that besides Disney.

After spending most of my childhood loving the Disney parks and going on countless trips with my whole family. It was a very special and to be honest, very surreal feeling to actually become part of it all. Actually being able to use all the knowledge I had gained over the years of being a fan to help the guests through their day. A lot of guests really care about the cast members, I remember one morning I was working at FP distribution and this mother wanted me to take a picture with her daughter just because I helped them print some fastpasses. I really loved how hardcore Disney fans really appreciated you. I also gained a lot of respect for how much hard work it takes from every single CM, including yourself to run the park every day. As a former CM, whenever I visit the parks now I always try to give the cast the benefit of the doubt and be a good and knowledgeable guest because I know everything they have to deal with a daily basis. Those were the personal perks I could think of, any others I'm sure were mentioned on here already. I left out some of the negative things (yes there are some negatives unfortunately) because the title of the thread is "Perks".

To you and all the other CM's who share those feelings, sentiments, my family expresses our thanks. Thats one of the reasons why we keep coming back. To share our story with you... Our first trip to WDW came after my DW got out of a 3 month stay in rehab and was facing a lifetime wheelchair bound due to MS. We went to WDW and were just amazed at the care, concern, attention that the CM's gave to her and helped make our family trip a memorable one. WDW wouldn't be the place it is if it wasn't for you outstanding CM's

Working for a company that I love because what it stands for, what it does for the masses, and what type of impact it makes of peoples lives. Just knowing that I'm a part of that is the best part. The free admission the parks for myself and comp passes for family/friends are also a great plus. I also love that I can honestly go across the country or even around the world and tell someone where I work and they know exactly where it is at and usually say "wow, that sounds like a fun job". Many of my co-workers are like family. The job gives you PLENTY of stuff to talk about and appreciate in your own life. If anything, life lessons on how not to act, spend waste money, raise kids, etc. I also get lots of exercise walking and being very active. Plus with Disney and theme parks being a hobby, I love being a part of that industry knowing insider information, behind the scenes stuff, and knowing exactly what is going on in the parks without having to rely on the internet or a yearly visit. Again though, it's the first reason that is the best perk.

Having the chance to work along side some of the greatest people you can ever hope to meet. And being able to help create the Magic of Disney for thousands of people on a daily basis. Those two aspects together make even the worst days worth it.

I look back on my days there and think about not only my memories but I think about some of the memories I was apart of for the guests. I met so many people. Especially to see the eyes of the little ones and how happy they were and their parents. I have to say I cherish the friends I made and still talk to a lot of them today.
I feel like I got my job today by having The Walt Disney Co. on my resume. Like someone else said. I get a lot of people that say, "you worked for Disney?" I always smile.:)
