I'm really not a creative or crafty person. Apparently I am very right-brained.
However, that apparently went out the window this week...
So, I saw on *ahem* another Disney community board that people decorated their doors and windows at their resort. I was sitting there scratching my head mulling over the concept then suddenly I decided, "I can do that!" Now keep in mind that not only do I not have any artistic ability, I also lack any tools, supplies etc. necessary to embark on a craft project unless it involves crayons, Popsicle sticks and old commuter parts (my husband's contribution to such endeavors.). Yet, somehow I got the notion that I could DO something crafty.
So, imagine my DH and DS7's surprise when they came home one day this week to see me at my desk in my home office with this...thing. Making noise. Cutting out bits of paper. Bits of paper shaped like Mickey Mouse heads. Oh, and a pile of pretty, sparkly red ribbon. (I am a woman and if it sparkles I am drawn to it like a beetle to a bug zapper.)
Anyway, I think it was my son who broke the silence and said, "Umm, what are you making?" I calmly said, "I'm making some decorations for our door and window." DH asked, "which door and window?". I calmly relied, without looking up from my sparkly ribbon and cardstock creation, "The door at our resort at Disney World." DH asks the obvious, "Honey, why?"
Now, to be completely honest I had no good answer. I can't explain why I thought it was a good idea when I read about it last week, or when I was picking up a Cricut machine from my sister (SHE's the crafty one of the family) or when I was at my local craft store, wandering around aimlessly not having a gosh-darned clue WHAT I was trying to make. But after finding some (IMHO) neat cardstock and some pretty ribbon, I began to envision something that would take up very little luggage space yet serve the purpose.
My reply To DH's question was nothing more than a slow, up turn of my head and a gaze with a look as if to say, "Don't question me". At which point the two Y-chromosome carrying members of the family just stared at me for a moment, then backed away slowly and left me to my work.
And....
I actually made some pretty neat things with some glittery cardstock (remember, sparkly), glittery red ribbon (more sparkly) and some glue and magnets. Oh. And some suction cups. I did read the warnings about not taping things to the doors and windows. Anyway, I'm pretty happy with it! DS7 thinks it looks neat too. However, it didn't stop him from looking at me and saying, "Who are you and what have you done with my Mom?"
Wait until he sees the tie dye shirts curing in the laundry room!![]()
Onward with the trip planning (which, BTW, Mom has been enjoying since she is spending so much time with us!)
i agree with the car ride. also your trip planning seems amazing and i hope you guys have a great time. The particulars. First, we're flying. Driving isn't an option for us.
But, our flight leaves at 0645 hrs. Holy sleep deprived, Batman! This means we will have to leave our house by 0430 hrs to make our flight. Ah well. We will land at MCO around 0830 hrs and get to spend a whole day playing!
- First, we have plenty of SW points.
- Second, we all would probably kill each other on an 18+ hour car ride.
- Third, we just want to GET THERE! (Sometimes, we can be an impatient lot.)
- Lastly, we have too much family living between us and WDW. If they found out we drove right by them and didn't stop to visit, there would be all kinds of trouble.
We're taking DME form MCO to CSR. DH and I have never had problem with it before and it's a nice way to start the trip.
From here on out, EVERYTHING is a surprise to MonkeyButt. He knows we are going to WDW and we're flying there. But he has NO idea what is in store for him! I'm so excited for all of the things we have planned!!
Oh no! Hopefully you were able to see it later. My friend said she could see it, so I'm guessing my technical ineptitude is on vacation and that I actually inserted the photo correctly.
It's posted to my Pinterest account. Maybe that's why? I wonder if anyone else is having trouble seeing it. If so, speak up.![]()
Are you going back in the spring? I'll probably be back in March since one of the conferences I attend will be going on then. In any case, have a great trip! Enjoy the planning!![]()
It will all depend on how much time we have to do it all.![]()
