I know this is not a pretty subject but here it goes.

I live in Atlanta, GA (Hotlanta during these months) and just came inside from doing my honey do list. Got me thinking of my upcoming trip in Sept and dealing with the heat in Orlando. Most of us know to take advantage or the EMH and hit the pool during the hottest part of the day, bring water, ect ect... No matter how much you prepare you will get hot and you will perspire like you never have before.

What do you do to help keep comfortable even though your hot and sweating. What do you do to prevent blisters, chafing and keep from walking funny at the end of a long day?

I know one thing that will be in my bag besides the Gold Bond Powder is this...

Whats on your list of must haves????

For the ladies, use an actual "primer" under your makeup. It helps. I mix a pea-size bit of my Smashbox Photo Finish primer with my Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm then spread evenly over my entire face & eyelids. Then I use mineral make-up, waterproof mascara, and everything holds up pretty good. If you don't carry oil blotting sheets (I don't), kleenex or a small piece of tp to dab excess oil works just fine.

Also, instead of slathering on sunblock I mix Neutrogena oil-free/dry lotion with a little of my regular lotion. It absorbs more like the usual stuff without leaving me feeling all funky like I have "stuff" all over me. My boys are very fair-complected and haaaate being sunblocked when not swimming. I do this for them as well. They still fuss when I'm applying but they get over it quickly when everything is soaked in. Both do fine in the sun.

Our "low-budget" way of staying cool when I went as a child was to go into the bathroom, take off our shirts, wet them down with cold water in the sink, wring them out well and put them back on. (We made sure to wear opaque fabrics). Sometimes we'd also wet down our hair. (You could also bring a long sock, fill it with ice from a counter service location, and drape it around your neck. People might look at you funny, but you'll still be cooler than they will, literally!) Totally ghetto, but it worked! It also gave my Dad, a science teacher, a good excuse to give an impromptu lecture on evaporation, condensation, meteorology as it related to humidity, etc. ;)

I also keep an extra, travel-sized stick of deodorant in my purse!

As for our feet, we always stuck to good sneakers with moisture-wicking socks, or athletic sandals like Tevas, and never had a problem. Make sure your footwear is well broken-in, and bring an alternate set of footwear so your feet can get a break every other day. I always bring blister pads in my purse, but so far we've never needed them.

nngrendel....you mentioned exactly the two things I would have told you that we also use. My husband swears by the Gold Bond Medicated powder and the Bodyglide has saved us many times as well. I have since found a pair of sandals that have been tripsavers....able to walk all day, every day with no discomfort.

We also will freeze a wet wash cloth and place in a ziploc bag this helps very well. We now carry a Frogg Togg, its a chilly pad. Its better than wash clothes, because they hold their coolness a lot longer. You can find them at your local sports store. We also try to mix up rides and visting indoor sites.

Thanks. Thats what I am looking for. Although people bring the water bottles and such to keep cool a lot forget about other preventive measures for comfort. Worst thing in visiting is getting a blister or some chafing going on during your first day out.

Another thing I might add is to not bring brand new shoes on your visit. Make sure you shoes have been broken in before wearing them all day. I say purchase your shoes a week or two before you visit and make sure you wear them around to break them in.

Well.. Florida is cool compared to Houston heat and humidity, we just drink alot of water... Course the last time we did July in Orlando we were usually napping during the heat of the day because we were on this manic all night at the parks schedule with character dining every morning, so then we would finish sleeping in the afternoon and hit the parks around 5 ...staying again til 2 am...

Absoutely correct! If you have blisters and or chafing, you are effectively done (or just really uncomfortable.) Both have stopped our trips dead in their tracks at one time or another.

The Bodyglide sticks have been lifesavers. It's the first thing to pack. (lol)

It's been so hot in Chicago this year, and I spend a vast majority of my time on a ballfield...I feel as though I'm already broken into the Florida weather. However, I know that humidity is going to knock my socks off.

9 days until I'm home!

Sounds like you have acclimated yourself already and will be prepared to have a great time. Enjoy!

Good grief. Ain't that the truth?! Last September I was still surprised at my level of discomfort in the heat at WDW because I realize our temps are often just as hot or hotter than Central Florida. What killed me was the fact that I was outside. In the summertime here I only go outside long enough to go from door to car and back. Last summer when I was running everyday I timed it so I was finished before the sun came up or not going outside to run until the sun was down. At WDW I was outside. I thought I was going to slap random people or fall over and die. LOL!

We swear by our Frog Toggs, it's one of the best investment we've ever made :) We also use Dr. Scholls Moleskin, it basically just an extra layer of padding for the sensitive areas of your feet but the adhesive is very strong and will stay on all day, unlike a regular bandaid.

Always a good pair of broken in shoes. For us in the heat, just take our time walking and catch all the shows we can that are inside. Its pretty easy to do MK, DHS, and EPCOT doind an outside attraction mixed with an indoor attraction. Alternating between the two. Also, cutting through shops really helps. And then my two favorites, Ice cream/popsicles and a cold beer.:)

No kidding we have had so much rain here lately we haven't been out in the heat as much as we usually are to be as acclimated to the summer heat and humidity either!

I have always enjoyed cutting through the shops on Main St to not only avoid crowds and to stay cool but to also to let my wife do some shopping at the same time.

Cold Beer works wonders as well.

Well I have 9 days. I am not going to make myself miserable getting overheated. I will figure it out... As long as I have a moving air and water I should be fine..and I will make sure my daughter doesn't overdue with the kids and dehydrate, she's the real manic one at the world, she has those kids riding everything they pass the height on...
