Journey Into Imagination... what would you change?

I think it's safe to assume that most everyone on the forums have a burning dislike for the current incarnation of Journey Into Imagination over at Epcot, and I apologize ahead of time if anybody who does like it is offended.

For those who don't, though... what changes would you make? If you had creative control, what would be some of your ideas? Would you bring Dreamfinder back, or would you ax Figment from the park completely and put in something new? If so, what?

I'd personally want to bring Dreamfinder back and give Nigel Channing the boot. Maybe the ride could be about how imagination has had an important role in history and what it's lead up to today. There could be a little portion of the ride pertaining to the history of animation... an animatronic Figment could draw himself on a sheet of paper and show the riders, and on the paper his drawing would come to life and do a little jig or something. :D Dreamfinder could likewise fiddle around with a computer nearby and show a CGI model of him dancing or something, too.

I like the basic idea of the current theme and the inclusion of Eric Idle, (because he makes everything more awesome XD) but the ride definitely needs more "umph." It should be longer, utilize more effects, and the upstairs section should re-open.
Also, the moral of the story should go back to the things that can spark the imagination. Not just random images and such saying "YAY! IMAGINATION IS COOL!" Show us WHY the imagination is cool. Have us leaving the ride pumped to use our imaginations. That is definitely one thing the old ride did much better than the current one does. Make us WANT to use our imaginations.

I also like the Nigel Channing character but would like to see the ride reworked with some inclusion of the original Dreamfinder. Figment should also remain, have a more educational role rather than just the juvinile antics shown now. Disney Imagineers could do a lot with the characters and theme to add to this attraction.

They need a new show staring Nigel Channing. During the show, Nigel would be visited by the ghost of EPCOT past. The ghost would take Nigel on a trip to the lower regions where we would meet the Devil. We would also see Dreamfinder and Figment working with pick axes as they break up brimstone. We would learn that both Dreamfinder and Figment will be held in this place for all eternity as punishment for the years they bored guests stiff at EPCOT.

I haven't ridden Journey since 2000, so my current perception of the attraction is not there. But I would echo the idea of bringing the idea of using our imagination, why it is important and then maybe go into a final section with regards to Walt Disney's imagination when he had a dream to build DL, of course incorporatting Dreamfinder and Figment throughout the ENTIRE attraction! I will be going to WDW in December, so after that I will have a better opinion!

I had a Figment stuffed animal when I was little, so I do like the original version of the ride. But, it needs replacing w/ something- just don't know what!:(

I really like this. They should NEVER get rid of Figment, he's Epcot's iconic character....a cartoon created exclusively for the park...you can't just throw him out!

I would get rid of Nigel Channing, as much as I like Eric Idle's work in the Python era, his presence isn't needed on this attraction. Dreamfinder could be put back in, but not necessarily be the main character if we're going over Walt's imagination more directly.

I think a wide-eyed figment learning from Walt's imagination would be a brilliant attraction idea.

I'd echo what Martin said. Adding back the ride track would be a start. And returning to all the different aspects of "imagination"...what I loved about the original was how the did stuff with all the different "genres" that go into your imagination... one of my favorite parts was the horror section, and fantasy, and science too. It was so cool. Makes me really sad to see what it is now since they took out so much of that. Seeing Figment in all different occupations sent such a great message to me...dream big, work hard, and anything you imagine can be possible. I'd love to see a return to that. I wouldn't need an exact replica of the original but they could do so much with science, horror, fantasy, showbiz, ect. And I'd agree with most that Dreamfinder should return.

I am not creative or talented enough to design an attraction. I can, however, add a suggestion for all of the Disney higher-ups that lurk here to see what the fan-base is thinking. I agree with Martin's suggestion of adding back the original track length. Adding to that, I would state that the current ride is just juvenile and silly, while the original attraction was an exceptional mix of whimsey and elegance. That perfect blend should be brought back in some form.

Epcot is being screwed up bad, the ideas and work put into the future world attractions look like they were drawn up overnight by a notebook and a calculator.

The question is depressing. They had a perfectly good pavilion in the first place. The current state of Imagination is awful.

I guess rebuilding the defunct JII is never going to happen, but it would be a huge improvement over what's there now. Even without a new dark ride they could reboot ImageWorks (upstairs), which would be a start.

As it is now, I totally forget that area is still there. I walk past it like I walk past the old Odyssey Restaurant. I really enjoyed the original ride and to completely gut a decent attraction to what it is today, is mind boggling. Since bringing the orginal attraction back is not likely, get rid of it and start anew.

As much as I see people complain, I'd just bring back the original, it's definitely not bringing in a crowd as it is, so bringing back the original just seems like the right way to go.

I think a good way to get a relaunch going and have some Disney synergy at the same time would be to try a movie tie in featuring Dreamfinder and Figment.
