No Avengers at WDW...for now?

There is nothing new here. The article states they are contractually prohibited from bringing Marvel characters to the parks in Florida. There has already been talk how they will pursue bringing them to Cali and the parks outside of the U.S.

I don't expect to see Marvel in WDW anytime soon if ever. But, what I learned is that I don' expect to see any major investments made either (sad) given this:

The new 12-acre Cars Land at California Adventure, based on the hit 2006 Pixar movie, and other expansions should help the company lift its profit margins in the parks business to the 20 percent range, Staggs said.

A decade ago, theme parks were the company's most profitable unit, with operating margins of 18 percent. This year, margins slid below 13 percent as the economy sputtered and the company spent to overhaul the California park and expand elsewhere, according to Disney's latest SEC filing.

Maybe once DCA is done they'll shift some focust back to WDW (or as FLE finishes up).

I've learned to never say never....at one point it looked like pixar and disney would never work together again either...
That is a little different. Disney still shows little interest in large capital investments at Walt Disney World. This makes Wall Street happy, because they seem to hate investment in theme parks. Marvel at Walt Disney World would not only be a large investment, it would be multiples of one in order to buy out Universal. It is a waste of money. So much more could be done with what it would cost to get Universal to give up its rights to the characters.

As soon as I learned Disney bought Marvel I thought it would be hilarious if they "stole" Universal's rights (before I knew how all this worked) to the characters in the midst of the Harry Potter World, then what could Universal do with Super Hero Island while paying all that money with HP? Just some stupid thought I had...

You seem to be operating under the misconception, which seems rather prevalent amongst Disney fans, that Universal is some small, two-bit operation. They are owned by Comcast, which is just as big if not bigger than The Walt Disney Company. They were owned by General Electric which is bigger than The Walt Disney Company. The Florida resort was half owned by The Blackstone Group. The lack of investment into Universal Orlando Resort was not due to a limit in financial resources. Had Disney been able to just take back the rights Universal would have just moved forward onto something else. They would not have been crushed by the weight of having to pay for another land to be redone.

No Marvel for WDW AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN ...

But Marvel for DLR? Perhaps in multiple ways (and I still think they are a bad fit for Disney!)

This just in... nothing has changed. More breaking news at 11.

People don't know what to talk about because they don't want to admit how bored and tired they are with WDW and how neglected and uninspired the resort is these days ... because UNI is going big (on multiple coasts ... hell, continents even) and DLR is looking better than ever as it approcahes 60 years of MAGIC and even regional parks like Busch Gardens Williamsburg are adding and plussing their product.

Yep. Like you said, nothing has changed. Nothing at all ...

Oh no, not this subject again. Hopefully this thread doesn't as long as the last one. I honestly doubt Marvel will come to WDW. Why does this subject keep popping up?

Because Disney World's slate off offerings has been underwhelming for so long now that fans have to come up with pipe dreams about the Avengers coming to WDW. For years, we got nothing substantial. And now the FLE is being doled out in stingy little doses. I can't really blame people for dreaming about Avengers or Star Wars land even if those dreams are unrealistic.

When there's nothing else to talk about, might as well make some stuff up. And dream big while you're at it.

tbh, I'd kind of rather see what UNI creative could do with an Avengers attraction than WDI under the guidance of TDO.

More than anything, I'd love to see the OLC buy WDW.

This is what I don't get about the "Marvel at WDW" crowd. If Disney got the rights to Marvel back from Uni, you KNOW they wouldn't use the property half as well as Universal did. They have had the rights to Star Wars for decades. And all they did was build a single attraction which they let rot for years. It's great that it finally got the attention it needed. But by now, they should have done so much more.

If Disney could use Marvel, you'd get a few walk around characters and one nice simulator ride. Maybe Marvel Weekends if Disney could find a part of the year that needed an attendance boost.
