Upgrading Tickets after June 3

So, if my math is correct, it seems that the new ticket pricing scheme is making it more attractive for people to add the WP&M option to their tickets. So the question is, if I purchased my tickets say, last month but am planning on using them after June 3, what will Disney charge to upgrade those passes to add the WP&M option? If it is a nominal increase, I might be willing to do so.

They won't increase the price you paid for the tickets you bought once you've used them at least once. Upgrading to add something only costs what it would cost to upgrade the current similar ticket.

If you bought a ticket at $40 that now costs $50, as long as you've started using it, your upgrade doesn't cost you the extra $10. If that makes sense.

Huh. Interesting. So, if I wanted to add the WP&M option, it would be more economical to do so at the park, after I have used it once. Meaning, if I upgrade before activating, I will pay the upgrade amount along with the ticket increase, post June 3 amount. But if I activate the ticket THEN add on, I only pay the increase based on that day's current base price. Or am I reading too much into it.

Yes, I calculated the same thing. Basically the new ticket price encourages people to go with both the WP&M and hopper options.

I recently upgraded 2-day base tickets purchased in 2010 to fully loaded 10-day tickets and Disney credited me with the current price of the 2-day base tickets. Note that these were unused tickets and I visited guest services before I entered the park.

I suggest you go to guest services before you enter the park and ask how much it would cost to upgrade the tickets.

Actually, it's generally best to use the tickets once *before* upgrading, especially if you bought the tickets from a ticket reseller.

That's because there are two ways that a CM can upgrade an unused ticket. One is that they give you credit for the current gate price that your ticket is now selling for. The other is that they only give you credit for how much money *Disney* got for that particular ticket. In the case of a ticket bought directly from Disney, that means the exact same as what you paid for the ticket. But if it was through a re-seller, they might only give you credit for what the *reseller* paid Disney, ignoring whatever profit margin the reseller added on, and thus you'd get credit for *less* than what you paid.

Which of those options the CM uses is up to them and their training.

But, it's a quirk of the ticketing system that if a ticket has already been used to enter a park, the only option then available to the CM on the upgrade is to give you the current gate-price.

This holds true even if the ticket was *just* used moments before. When I went last June, I had an unused 1-day ticket from a few years ago that I wanted to upgrade to an 8-day ticket. My friend needed to buy a new ticket. So after we went through security at Epcot, I had him wait a moment while I entered the park and then immediately turned around and exited again. We then walked over to Guest Relations where we completed the ticket sales, and I was credited for the current price of a 1-day ticket.

Ah, O.K. I understand. Well, since I bought them through Disney, I can do it anytime. Since we're staying 8 days in August, the waterpark option is looking far more attractive right now.

Glad I found this thread! I'm assuming this works for the Park Hopper, as well. My family and I are going down this month, and we are getting 4 or 5 day (single park) tickets from an authorized dealer. We don't think we'll need park hopping, but we wondered what the option would cost. If I'm reading this right, it sounds like the best bet would be use it the first day at a park, go to Guest Relations at the end of the day and upgrade the rest of the ticket for the flat $57.00 fee. Otherwise, they may credit only what Disney got paid for the fully unused ticket? Anyone have experience there?

Options like Park Hopper I think are simply added onto the ticket using the current price.
But you can always play it safe and upgrade later that day.
