When I took the Keys to the Kingdom tour last year, I asked the guide what is the maximum capacity for the park. What I think they said, after saying it is a closely guarded secret, is 700,000. Is that even possible? I feel like I'm remembering wrong, maybe it was 70,000, but that seems too low. Either way, I would not want to be there on a day they have to stop letting people in. :dazzle::zipit::veryconfu:

100,000 guests is the max capacity for the Magic Kingdom. The parking lot closes at 75,000 to allow room for Hotel resort guests arriving on buses, boats and monorail.

Although this may increase with the FLE

The actual capacity numbers for the parks are a closely guarded secret and will actually vary based on what is open or closed at the time. I have heard estimates hovering around the 80,000 mark for MK but it is anyone's guess is that number is even close to correct.

It's close enough, and I wouldn't call it a closely guarded secret, because even if the phase numbers aren't exact, they're close enough to make an extremely educated guess if you don't know the number.

I agree. It is a tricky equation to solve for X. The Fire Marshal's code only applies to indoor areas thus leaving open air just that, up in the air.

Cast members at the Magic Kingdom should have a pretty good idea of what capacity is. Every evening they receive forecasts for the next days attendance. For example - for MK's 40th - I believe the forecast was for around 40,000 guests. It would seem to make sense that whatever those numbers are around 4th of July, Christmas, and New Years will be pretty darn close to capacity...

People seek shelter from "open air" during storms and that is part of the capacity limit. Therefore, it is not "up in the air". The capacity changes based upon attractions that are opened or closed but the park capacity is always very well defined and never exceeded. :wave:

Wrong. Fire code capacities are based on the maximum number of people that can exit an area safely in the event of, well, fire. They don't apply to outdoor areas unless their is a covering (such as an open-air tent or a queue like at Haunted Mansion). If what you said were true, then the capacity would be based on the max capacities of every shop, restaurant and attraction. That capacity would make the midways empty, so your statement is misleading.

Without question. At Six Flags, park capacity was determined by a combination of things: number of guests expected, amount of food/beverage available for sale, number of rides open, number of shops open, amount of staff/security. I imagine Disney isn't too different in that aspect.

70,000 to 80,000 sounds plausible when you consider that most professional and many college football stadiums in the US hold at least that amount. Still, wouldn't want to be there on a closed to capacity day unless strictly there to people watch.

I guess they were a little off on that 40,000 number. The 40th was probably the most miserable day I have ever spent in one of the parks.

Casting my mind back... I *think* it was around 74,000 on the 40th.

Magic Kingdoms record was 104,000 for New Years 1980.
