Problem day for MK.

Hi all,
Just an FYI that POTC was down for the better part of the evening and still wasn't up at 11:00 pm when I left. Splash was down for at least 40 mins. Great Skip on JC. And in reply to the person inquiring about BTMRR trains were not cycling when I looked in on it..

I know some are going to say "all parks have problems like this", but honestly, they don't. Not saying that rides don't break down, but it's always the same rides at Disney. If they're so problematic, then why doesn't Disney look into fixing the schematic of the attraction so the littlest thing doesn't send it into tilt?

Pirates had probably six or eight hours of downtime yesterday. A friend from out of town said he's been trying for days, unsuccessfully, to get on the ride during its increasingly infrequent uptimes. I haven't heard what's going on yet, but am curious.

Althought I haven't been on this post for long, and I've only gone to Disney about 10 times, I've never even heard of POTC being shut down. Splash is always down for something and BTM is always closing too... but, that ride never seemed to have a problem. Was I just lucky?

I read on another post that they still have all the plywood and beams all up. I think they were probably working on the tracks. We can hope for an earlier opening... but, I wouldn't expect one soon.

Its going to get to the point where every time a toilet backs up at Disney, someone is going to post about it, then someone is going to use it as an example of how Disney is doing a horrible job of maintaining the toilets.

The buildings and tracks do not look ready to open to me. If there was cycling, I would guess they had to check something related to that part of the operation, nothing more. I would be surprised indeed if they opened early.

The Refurb is Down!

Oh no, the trains are not cycling on a ride that is being refurbed!!!

Mickey should get a pink slip for this.

Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair, and agony on me"

I don't understand...
Was someone complaining about the trains cycling?
I didn't get that...

Or was there an assumption that someone was complaining?

I know all parks have technical issues with rides, but WDW seems to have chronic problems with a few specific rides

We were there last August and POTC was down for extended periods of time on several of our five days in the MK. Maybe POTC has always these types of problems, but before the proliferation of messaging technologies and forums like this it wasn't widely known. However, we've been going to WDW every year since 1996 and I don't remember as many attractions being out of service throughout the day as I've seen in the last 2 or 3 years.

Must be related to aging infrastructure. We have seen several instances of downtime recently due to electrical outages or other items. Life span on even high end electrical equipment is about 30 years. If the MK still has the original distribution systems in place I can see where they may be past their reliable lifespan.

Yes, I took the liberty to change gloom to doom as I figure by now the doomers deserve their own special theme song. But you get the idea.

I think this is the point right here. I agree completely. No one expects machines to run forever on a continuous basis as the rides do. My concern is that I don't think the current people at the top are interested in addressing it. Thunder Mountain's refurb is a step in the right direction. So is the attention to Main Street. But quite honestly...there really should be a whole plan of action to keep these decades-old attractions going and in tip top shape. Perhaps there is....but its not the impression I am personally getting. If a Splash major refurb is announced right after Big Thunder is done...my opinion will probably change.

We are seeing pretty widespread aesthetic refurbishments taking place all over the MK. My concern is all the stuff we can't see. The stuff that is burning under the pavement and behind the facade. I have no frame of reference if they are doing anything to address the real issue.

:)wow i guess i have been lucky. in the five times i have been there POTC has never been down, also if something was done it didnt taken hours to fix. I know its disappointing but we have to remember those rides are older and they are doing everything they can to keep them going. if you think about how many times they go and ride a day, you understand there would be problems. I agree also technology has changed! you dont know about anything ten yrs ago because people were not attached to their phones, now people have it attached to their ear. we have a rule at disney! no cell phones! makes it better :)

I have never in all of my times gone to Disney World seen POTC down. I've been on it successfully a dozen, and most times with no wait and a lot of the times they are only operating one side due to slowness.
